Prof. Balakrishnan was my physics professor at IIT Madras when I was there getting my engineering degree in the early 80s. Brilliant professor, humble person. I even took a Quantum Mechanics course with him in addition to the engineering physics courses that all undergradsd had to take. I can still remember everything he taught.
Study from any institution, the course is the same, just profs. will vary from institution to institution. At the end it is your effort that will matter most at the end of the day.
Thank you Sir... for Marvellous way of approaching ,Analysing the Physics... I am big Fan of you Sir....We need teacher like you across India .... We r very lucky to hear your lecture ... Thank you so much ....
These lectures are fantastic. The bit on heat and reversibility is particularly interesting. It seems that there lies a connection to the ubiquity of "workless" constraints. One thing I don't completely agree with is that I feel that Newton's formulation handles constraints just as well as Lagrange's once you introduce the concept of virtual work and d'Alembert's principle. The workless constraints disappear from the EOMs just like they do in the Lagrangian.
Now I can say, that I have LEARNED, in a way that I will never forget again. If you want to study, go read books or go to your professor at school, but if you want to LEARN... here you go.
I was born in America in the early 50s but my Father was from India. He was a terrorist against English rule, arriving here in 1917. I have just discovered your lectures. For some reason I learn so easily from Indian professors. Thank you for teaching me the motion equations.
Strange to hear the words terrorist for the people who resisted the English atrocities/indignity/human abuse which were as devastating in scale as the holocaust if not more. Never heard freedom fighters referred like that before.
At 15:10, I don't understand why the thing inside the curly brackets should be 0. Since delta q is arbitrary, he says, he makes the thing inside curly brackets 0. What if it (the thing inside curly brackets) is some sinusoidal function (or any odd function) integrated over it's time period, giving 0 as an answer?
Delq is not 0 at all point of phase space trajectory and we see that left hand side is 0 so it implies that of delq is not 0 then the quantity inside curly bracket must be zero since delq is 0 only at t1 and t2
does T-V is taken as lagrangian because of the consequence of work energy theorem? because K2-K1 = INTEGRAL OF (F.ds) along any path from point 1 and 2 which is V2-V1...thus K2-V2 = K1-V1( AN INVARIANT quantity for conservative system)..Whether to minimise that is it taken as LAGRANGIAN??/
Can any one suggest which studey method should be good for study the classical mechanics Share your study method how u remember these complicated terms
It is not correct to imply that Newton’s laws are somehow equivalent to the Lagrangian method. The latter is only when you know the generalized coordinates that respect constraints. Newton’s laws are more general. Lagrangians have to be derived from Newton’s laws for holonomic constraints.
Can anybody recommend a textbook to follow along with this course, especially for practice problems? Goldstein (mentioned at MIT OCW) doesn't cover quite the same material, at least till this lecture. Thanks
obviously not, the principle of least action is more of a philosophy than a fact of nature, there are many system which follow it but I would assume many wouldn't though they are rarer.

Bitcoin has a myriad of merits in the current online trade setting i started my investment last year with WellingtonTrades a broker that introduced bitcoin to me. It has however proved itself as a great and useful invention and i'm glad and proud to say today that i've accomplished 99% of my goals with bitcoin.
I made a withdrawal of 5btc yesterday too from trading with George Wellington, i also advise traders who are lacking good signals to contact him today.
You have given me confidence in trading i never had before. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Mr Wellington. I wish i had learned this first before looking into Stock market
Greetings Bala, from a fellow Brandeis Physics grad student! Delighted to have just now discovered your excellent lectures!

thank you very much!! prof. Balakrishnan is the best professor ever!!
It is interesting to compare the contents of the lecture with Fermat"s least time principle.
Such a knowledgeble and humble person
Its really nice good for physicist great professor and doing a good job.
Sir I am very proud of you. You can clearly English that's we can understand.

These professors will do anything to prove their final result..no logic there...the important thing is to prove
