I have used all these products and keep going back to the Griots fine paint clay bar. For me it just flat out works without marring the finish. Great video Brian!👍
Great video and awesome idea for a review! MATCC is a great low cost option especially for people starting out. Their foam cannon has never let me down and it was $15.
Great comparison!! I like to spray the clay with a little water before I fold and knead..It releases some (not all) of the contaminants.. makes the clay last a little bit longer👍🏻
Good comparison test of some of the popular clay bars. I find Griots Paint Cleaning Clay to be really effective for removing heavily embedded contaminants. Your right, it’s really sticky, especially in warm weather, but it just pulls all the crap out of the clear coat and leaves it smooth as a baby’s butt. I’ll spend a few more bucks on the Griots because it works so well.
As an enthusiast I'll gladly spend the extra money on Griots IF the product works better, even if only results are slightly noticeable, and because of the favorable image I have of the company.
Yea I was about to order the matcc but then noticed it's a Chinese company, I'll gladly pay more for the U.S company especially if it's a better product even if by only a small margin lol.
Enjoyed the video very much. Good question about the synthetic mitts/pads, "where does the dirt go?". I never really thought about it. But I use a bucket of water to rinse mine off after a few panels. But I don't think they work as well as clay bars. I tried them looking for a short cut. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing your next video 👍✌️Oh and Happy New Year‼️
Nice review. I bought the Griots because you said it was the best. Good to know the Amazon one is good too. There was no obvious affiliate link on Amazon - I would have used it if there were!
Clay bars were developed to remove overspray from cars. The technology comes from Japan. I first learned about it in the 80's when I worked for Nissan. Of those bars, you tested, only one comes from there and that is Meguiars Professional. Meguiars also makes a kit for consumer use but it contains bars made somewhere else. Personally, I don't like a sticky clay bar. If you run out of lubricant, it will smear that clay which is hard to get off. Like you said about it getting on your hands. I don't use the mild Meguiars so I don't have any experience with it. What I do know, I can do a large car in about 30 minutes and the Meguires does an excellent job with one pass. Claying a car isn't something I enjoy doing and doing something more than once isn't my thing. Clay bars last me a long time so I don't mind paying more for it. It is the same as my choice in polishes.
Since I am older, I have developed arthritis in my thumbs, holding clay is not an option for me. So I use a clay mitt. I have also used the Mother's Speed Clay. I can do a 2nd wash with the clay mitt when strip washing the car after the chemical decon. It seems to work for me. Thanks for the video...
Did you ever try plumbers putty? I did one day when I dropped my last clay bar. Not at all scientific but I could not really tell a difference. Not a pro but I have been detailing my family cars for over 50 years and discovered that the plumbers putty worked as well as a clay bar (don’t remember the brand of clay bar but most likely Meguiars) and better than my Mothers 2.0 speed clay bar. That seems to push the contaminants around rather than loosen and pick them up. One man’s opinion but what are your thoughts on plumbers putty.
Great video. Just ordered some MATCC. Second product you’ve turned me on to. I’ve been using the spray wax on my RV. I ended up purchasing the reflections spray wax though. Tried twice getting the Griots but came damaged both times. The reflections works great.
Thanks! It’s a good clay bar. That’s unfortunate usually they put more packing in their boxes then any other company. Makes you wonder if it’s not the delivery company.
In reference to the dirt-in-mitt question - I use the Mother's speedclay 2.0 synthetic pod with ICE Detailer for my claybar detailing. I put a damp towel on my shoulder and regularly wipe the pod on the towel as I work a small section...doesn't take long to see a dirty towel. To me it makes sense and seems to keep the silicone clean for the next pass. Results are always satisfactory. Hope this is helpful. Btw...good vid here!
I liked the first claybar / griots claybar but I usually use mother's fab I love the video great information I used a lot of clay bars $21 mother's at Wal-Mart but I think speed shine ill have to check that out the mother's detail spray smells like peppermint Brian have a awesome weekend until next video take care my friend
Great video! This question was on my mind recently. Would it have made a difference if the Adams clay had been new as opposed to already used? I am new to all this and need to clay my car. Paint is still in good condition so that’s something I don’t want to mess up (mar with clay) Any idea if the MATCC can also be used on glass?
Thanks! All of the clay bars had been used once except the MATCC. As long as the clay isn’t overly contaminated then it’s still ok. When it starts having either dark spots or the clay is completely a different color that’s when you know to throw it out. It will work fine on glass.
Great idea for a video....something most detailers wouldn't think to cover. Thanks for the heads up regarding the MATCC...not surprising to see the results (yes, Adam's makes some great products...others, not so much). I've always used Clay Magic and Mother's, but for the price I'll be trying the MATCC next time I buy clay.
Great video Brian. I've been wanting to try that MATCC clay for at least six months and just haven't got around to purchasing it. Got two daily drivers that definitely need claying for their spring spruce up. Gonna get some of the MATCC clay after watching this video.
Interesting. I started using Griot's and Speed Shine. Moved to Meguiars(might have been from watching a DPC video, before he went off the rails with the It's just water video). For me, it seemed work better and faster. Having a pearl white car, I can see the contaminates in the paint. Took me less passes to remove with the Meguiars. Maybe it's because of my Nissan paint, or maybe it's because I live in a warmer climate, who knows. Appreciate the comparison and your opinion, but for me, I'm sticking with the Meguiars. Thanks Brian!
Hey no problem. I always tell people if something already works for you stick with what works. I always appreciate your comments and thanks for watching.
I use ONR just because it’s what I bought when I got started, but I upped the amount from what they recommend for clay lube. I didn’t think it was slick enough at their recommendation. Might check this clay bar out. Nice video
Nice video as always. Today/s detailing products are getting tricky. Just like when I did my hood test. Come to find out, it was not the paint but the polish. I had to strip it off after using because of stuff in it would not work well with certain waxes and sealants. Just as clay bars......I know of 1 clay bar that has sio2 in it. They say to leave a little protection in case you can not finish the car all at one time.
Thanks! Yes polish will definitely mess up longevity of products that’s why I always use a panel wipe once done polishing a car. I have never heard of a clay bar having SIO2 but have heard of Spray Detailers that are also used for clay that have SIO2. I don’t know how they could put a protection in a clay bar.
If you’ve ever used Chemical Guys Medium grade clay bar, how would you compare it to the MATCC? Also, i’ve always thought you should not clay with a detail spray, because it leaves a protection behind before you polish. What do you think?
I hav e never tried CG clay so I can’t answer that. Some detail sprays have a wax on them but some don’t. I personally like to use Griots Garage Speed Shine because it has no waxes
Great video Brian, the MATCC clay is really good value for money, I use a clay mitt but I think I'm going to have to try the clay bar, happy new year to you and all the family 👍👍👍👍👍
I’ve tried Mother’s and it fell apart. Meguiar’s was like rubber and hard to tear into sections. But, I use McKee’s because it works well and doesn’t fall apart.
Have you seen a clay called Homenote on Amazon? It is 5 bars 100g each for like $12.99. Id be interested to see what you think of it as i love how informative your videos are.
Great video buddy. Happy New Year !!!! I have used alot of goofy clay bars before like Zep clay bars to Clay magic , that was popular in the mid 80 's to 90s. I was wondering about those clay mitts because of my disability to get stuff done easier. I guess I need to get some good clay and make a 4 day clayathon on my crewcab silverado. Normally it would take a half hour.....or get my sons to do it while I drink a Guinness or two.....yep thas it.
Great video Brian. Question for you. What would the procedure be to clean up a vehicle with a ceramic coating? If we clay a ceramic coated car. What do you suggest for micro marring from the clay?
You typically don’t want to clay a ceramic coated vehicle because it’s an abrasive. Usually an iron remover is all you need. If you have to clay CarPro Essence+ is a polish for ceramic coated vehicles.
Nice timing, I was thinking of trying matcc, its so cheap. A couple notes, the harder or more viscous the clay determines how aggressive it is, so if you were comparing a soft clay bar branded as adam's to a more aggressive clay branded as Meguires, it wouldn't be apples-to-apples. The other thing when considering clay is the actual clay content. If you don't have enough clay in your bar it won't hold the contaminates, which which will make you more susceptible to marring and/or decrease the bar's useful life. Clay is not cheap, nor is it shiny, which makes me suspicious of the clay content of the MATCC bar. Any thoughts?
It would be hard to find out the clay content. Of all these clays Griots is the only one that smells like real clay does. I think the shine on the MATCC clay was from the plastic wrapping. After the first use it lost the shine.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing thanks for clarifying. i'm going to order that MATCC clay, now that I feel better its not a waste. I almost bought some purely out of curiosity a couple weeks ago, but I convinced myself it had to be junk for that price.
Awesome video I currently have the Maguires clay bar but if I can go with the three clay bars for $10 I’m going to do that awesome video as always thanks Brian!
After watching this video I bought the MATCC and loved it. Worked great. But for a while it seemed like it was nowhere to be found on Amazon. Now it seems it’s back but the brand is called MATCEE? Is that the same thing? I put out some questions on Amazon about it but no word yet…
Okay so what's the process of detailing a car exterior. I'm getting into washing my car and detailing it but never ever clayed bar my car. What's the process , do you wash the car first then clay it , dry it , wax it or clay it first then wash it , then dry it and wax ? Thanks for the help in advance
You can do it one of 2 ways. Clay during the wash process after the I goal cleaning before drying. You can use the soap as a lubricant. The second way is to wash and dry the car then use a clay lubricant like ONR or Speed Shine from Griots Garage. Spray on the surface then rub the clay across the surface until it feels smooth then wipe dry. Hope this helps
Clay magic is the very first, the original clay "the og" so to speak. This technology was founded and perfected in Japan. That's why I use either Clay Magic or Meguiars because they're made from that good Japan clay, and when time is money they are a 1 pass and done clay.
Again, stop the rubbing noise. It’s so painful. I forgot the difference in noise and pain between the portion that was clayed and the portion that still wasn’t clayed on the hood. This very simple step should convince any not lazy car enthusiast to use the darn clay bar. Got the MATCC today. Thanks for the review. I’m sure I will enjoy my new clay bars. Stay safe. It ain’t over yet.
HI best ever is to use Bilt Hamber clay fr UK they have their own clay mine ! avail in S , M, H grades it is so pure they say and it is TRUE ! you can use just plain water for lube ! ! try it let me know what you think ? and update your video w/an addendum ? thx Jack
MATCC Clay seems like a bargain for sure💵 I love using Silly Putty on my cars😃😃😉 Just kidding...You could say that I was being Silly😉 Great video Brian & Happy New Year Brother📅🎈🎊🎉
Matcc 👍👍👍, I love also the matcc microfiber's (380gsm, black, grey, yellow, double side). And meguiar's mild and aggressive clay bar pro, I love, very good but expensive in France!
I’d much rather a finer aggregate like the Matcc as a first try than that Maguiars. I don’t want to accidentally mar my vehicle, and you’d have a better chance at that happening using a harder more aggressive clay like Maguiars. I’m not ready for that 😂 I’ll take Matcc for the price and the limitations. So, so what if I have to do it a couple times to get what I want? If you do too much the first time, you’re just screwed.
Brian again what a stellar video!! Thank you mate!! I have to admit you are right with that Matcc orange clay stuff, it is absolutely amazing!! I use it a lot but when it comes to my cars, I use Adam's clay because I'm doing it maybe 2-3 times a year and maybe it's because it's a really fine grade and it doesn't grab that much I feel like every time I polish one of my cars I always kind of go for the Adam's because I feel like it's softer. Also maybe it could have some influence but I'm the frugal kind and I use 32:1 ONR in deionized water as lubricant. I works really well, but now I feel like I should really try this Griot's clay. Just because it's made in the USA I will buy one for sure and will maybe even give it a try on a Porsche soft clearcoat first! Anyway many thanks again for your great videos as always, you are really amazing I absolutely love your channel Brian. Keep up the great work!!
On camera the Meguiars sounded much better than the Griot's...I 've watched a few of your videos....do you think you have a bias towards Griot's products? As an outside observer it does seem like it.
Many of these channels are compensated in various ways. Griots has a "Brand Ambassador" program for people over I think 10k subscribers. I would be suspicious of all recommendations. They may not pay cash, which allows the channel to claim they didn't get paid, but they may get free products, discounts, or one time overall payments. Ever wonder why 300 people do the same taped out panel comparison with the same products? I'm not suggesting this channel is /does.
@@mback12000 I've used many a product. In my experience the Meguiars clay is fantastic. Beyond that, the performance of a clay really comes down to what lubricant you use. Seems like Carnuba quick details work better than synthetic ones, and soapy water works horribly by comparison. If you have the intent of following your clay with a machine cut and polish, I'd use as little lubrication as possible, it pulls up contaminants waaaay better than soaked paint, unless you're just trying to do it quickly, in which case just spray down the car with a foam cannon and clay away. Also also, don't feel obligated to stick to any one brand...there's tons of products out there that you'd find much more success mixing and matching in your detailing kit than sticking to one brand.
Great work on the video. However 200 g of clay bar can easily last for ten detailing's. And I just don't understand trying to save one dollar for detailing and get even a slightly inferior job. When I'm working hard on a car I'd rather have the best whether it's one dollar, two or 3 dollars. It's the final product and the amount of effort I spare myself that I care about - not saving pennies on an already and extremely inexpensive product. Might paint is pretty important to me. I only clay bar two times a year which will calculate out to maybe $1.50 in savings if I use the cheapest project you have there. It's like saving on gasoline at the dragstrip by using the cheapest unleaded gasoline. At the end of the day you save $.37 after you've spent 20 grand on twin turbos and tuning trying to get your time down by .2 seconds. Boy sure glad I saved that $.37 on fuel but lost my bragging rights by .1 secondsLOL. Still a lot of effort, Clarity and a good product you put out there. And the most useful of all is your judgment on the best Clay bar no matter the price. Very useful,Thank you
I agree about using what’s best there are just so many people always asking if cheap clay is just as good so that was the purpose of my video. I’m glad it helped you out. Thanks for commenting!
I understand what your saying but Iron removers are used during the wash process which I did before this video so it wouldn’t have showed much. Iron removers remove iron particles clay can’t remove.
I'm going to relegate my Mother's clay bar for the bottom sections and go with Phil Miranda's method. You knock two birds with one stone and just use soap for a lubricant.
I have used all these products and keep going back to the Griots fine paint clay bar. For me it just flat out works without marring the finish. Great video Brian!👍

Awesome video I currently have the Maguires clay bar but if I can go with the three clay bars for $10 I’m going to do that awesome video as always thanks Brian!
Thanks and you are welcome!
After watching this video I bought the MATCC and loved it. Worked great. But for a while it seemed like it was nowhere to be found on Amazon. Now it seems it’s back but the brand is called MATCEE? Is that the same thing? I put out some questions on Amazon about it but no word yet…
Yes that’s the same one. Package and everything is the same.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing thank you sir it did
I’ve heard that plumbers putty works pretty good as a non aggressive clay treatment. Any truth to that.
I have heard that also but have not tried it.
Clay magic in my opinion the original clay is still the best
Man, matcc for 10 ftw man! Like you said cant justify 3 times as much for meg's.. extra 100Grams.. that's a win.. great video brother!
I agree brother! Thanks
That was great! An upstart company doing well. Have you ever used Clay Magic the blue fine clay bar? Its $23.95 for 200 gm.
Thanks! I have not tried Clay Magic but have heard good things about them.
I've always stuck with Meguair's and sometimes Clay Magic. I'm disappointed that the Adam's didn't seem to perform well.
Yeah the Adam’s still does a good job and the surface is way better then when it started it’s just not as good as the others.
HI
best ever is to use Bilt Hamber clay fr UK they have their own clay mine ! avail in S , M, H grades it is so pure they say and it is TRUE ! you can use just plain water for lube ! ! try it let me know what you think ? and update your video w/an addendum ? thx Jack
I've used cheap clay before but it kept stalling on paint and it would then leave a strange residue on the place it stopped, does this one do this?
I haven’t had that issue or any issues at all with it.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing great, thanks for the feedback :)

MATCC Clay seems like a bargain for sure💵 I love using Silly Putty on my cars😃😃😉 Just kidding...You could say that I was being Silly😉 Great video Brian & Happy New Year Brother📅🎈🎊🎉
I’ve used it a few times since this video and it is good clay. No pun intended right? 😂 Thanks and Happy New Year to you too
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing 👍🏼😃😄😂
Great video buddy tfs
Matcc 👍👍👍, I love also the matcc microfiber's (380gsm, black, grey, yellow, double side).
And meguiar's mild and aggressive clay bar pro, I love, very good but expensive in France!
I have not tried their microfibers yet but hope to soon. Meguairs clay is good the price just needs to come down.

Thank you!
Your link to the MATCC doesn't work anymore. Is it called MATCEE now? looks like the same packaging
I appreciate the feedback!
Great video appreciate it, I have paint over spray on my ole 98 z28 gotta get that crap off man 😂
Thank you and you are welcome!
Honestly i buy the cheap clay it get the job done. I used to buy this 10pack on amazon for $12 lasted a long time and it made everything smooth
That’s great and I always say use what’s works for you.
Awesome video sir
Thank you
I like clay better to I see the stuff on the clay to I know it's picking up good tfs buddy
I’m with you on that! Thanks for watching
Great video brian great bang for buck
Thank you and I agree!
The screeching sound of the plastic bag. Please make it stop! 😂😂😂😂😂
You know you love it! 😂
Excellent video
Thank you
You should use plastic bags from the produce department they're thinner and increases the sensitivity of what you're feeling
We usually have thinner bags but only had these of course when I made the video. 😂
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing that's great I was just trying to help I also just ordered some of the matcc
U need to try bilt hamber clay bars 👍👍👍
I need to try a lot of their products! I have heard great things about them.
I can’t find the MATCC clay bar anymore
This video is a couple years old now so they must have stopped making it.
Thank you! If you buy Griots clay I would definitely buy a bottle of speed shine for your lubricant so you can see how slick it is for claying.
Clay Magic. The first one.
I didn’t have clay magic otherwise it would have been in my video. Thanks for watching
I use Magic clay or Mothers clay.
I haven’t used either one of those.
Matcc no longer listed on Amazon. Let’s go with Griot’s then.
Why spend for lube when water is free, well almost.
Good value it proved, but that is the thickest sounding sandwich bag.
Yes it did! It’s all we had for sandwich bags. 😂
Spray an iron remover on it after
I understand what your saying but Iron removers are used during the wash process which I did before this video so it wouldn’t have showed much. Iron removers remove iron particles clay can’t remove.
I heard the best clay comes from japan is there any truth to that
I actually have no idea. Sorry
I'm going to relegate my Mother's clay bar for the bottom sections and go with Phil Miranda's method. You knock two birds with one stone and just use soap for a lubricant.
Yes soap is a great lubricant!
What’s the cheapest most effective clay lubricant? 🤔😁
Optimums ONR because it’s dilutable!
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing I've been using optimum diluted 1 cap full to about 28 oz spray bottle.
@@anonymousnoname That’s about right!
Good as always- I wonder how many of those you rested were made by the same people. I’ve heard there are only certain companies who make detail clay.
Thanks! I’m not sure who the makers are.
Allclay bar works the same it's just the brand that makes up the price
Not true at all!
Plumber's putty does the same job much cheaper...
I should try it just to see. I have heard people say that before.

Biggest scam in detailing. Clay bar lube. Just use soapy water
What do you think about Chemical Guys clay bars?
I have never used them
Clay must be white and it must be harsh to really clean it , talking about before paint Correction
It doesn’t have to be white but should be aggressive before paint correction I agree.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing white ! :) So you can see it is clean or dirty :))))
