the story lets you either use your own characters, or uses a preset team with trial characters that are present in that story for immersion purposes.

Man you gonna be going on a claiming spree next time you get back XD don’t forget to claim your rewards from all the different notifications. Like if you press the options button there’s a bunch you can probably pick up from there. There’s one you can claim from the arcade, and also from all the other options the game will slowly introduce overtime.
This is my first hoyoverse game and it can feel confusing for all the different things it throws at you with so much information and all that.
But trust me, once you’re able to get that damn experience bar (Inter-Knot Level) up, then a lot more will open up to you. And just try to hold onto your polychromes/master tapes for when you wanna pull for that butler I KNOW you been eyein’ up XD

you know the ost is good when every cutscene is an opportunity to freestyle
A quick tip, when an enemy is stunned (indicated by the bar under it being all rainbow and glitching) you can use the Special attack of any character (the one with the four pointed star icon on the bottom right that sometimes lines up) to instantly trigger a chain attack

Some characters have actions that the game doesn't tell you, for example...
Nicole has two EX skill animations that will either 1. Make the EX last longer, or 2. Launch it immediately with no charge (spin analog in a full 360 motion to achieve this)
Another example is when using the quick assist, you immediately get stacks for a character's skill if they able to receive stacks (i.e Ellen)
lol, welcome to hoyoverse and the illusion of choice. more often than not, choices dont really matter (there are times when it does matter, but usually when it's in the main story, it doesnt really matter, bc they need to keep you on the story they wanted to tell, i guess)
havent watch the full vid yet but ima comment on the controller vibrations thing, you can turn it off in game from the option :v

Some advice for you:
1) first off, you really should clear out all of those red "!" notifications scattered across the screen on the menus, there's actually some really important rewards to claim for doing so
2) if you really want to learn more about the world and what's going on, then you need to start reading a lot more, Inter-Knot posts, newspapers, etc. They actually explain a lot so that you won't be as lost, and if you don't understand what certain items are used for or how certain menus work, then you should read the descriptions, seriously, this really helps, if you're ever lost or confused in this game, then read, it's a lot more important than most people realize
3) lastly, I would highly recommend practicing with each character a little more, as they each have their intricacies and mechanics that define how they play, if you go into the character menu, go into the Skills tab for the characters, and select their core skill (the 2 glowing disks on the end), you can then go into a training tutorial arena that teaches you how each character plays
