  • My first time charging my BYD Seal using a AC three-phase 22kW charger. Thanks to Dépow convincing me to give the Mode 3 AC 22kW charging a try and they provided me with this type 2 to type 2 charging cable. This is when my exploration led me to free Mode 3 22kW AC charging stations around my area. I researched Depow's ethos and discovered their commitment to producing good charging EV accessories.

    I live in Germany and just ordered a BYD Seal. I was surprised that your BYD only charges with a maximum of 7kW AC even though a 3-phase cable is used. I compared the brochure for Germany and Australia and the models for Germany/EU come with an 11kW onboard AC charger. I was a little surprised that there was a difference here. The onboard charger is also manufactured by BYD, why do they use different ones?

      I'm not sure why the difference. When I bought my Seal the dealer did told me it will only charge at 7 kW if plug on 3-phase AC. So by design Australia Seals are charging at 7 kW. Good to know Germany is 11kW. I hope others can confirm if they are getting 7kW or 11kW.

      @Sensei_888 Nope, pretty sure Dynamic and Performance are the same when it comes to AC charging. This is the brochure I checked when I bought the seal
      bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-2023.pdf
      Left column under Configuration, New Energy, it says AC Charging port Type 2 (7kW) for all models.
      Would be great someone with Performance (like Tom) can confirm and comment if this is the case. I suspect not many people have AC Type 2 charging cable for their Seal.

      @@SkyPerspective I'm from Malaysia and it's the same here. Our specifications for the car only have 1-phase charging speed max 7kW. Guess EU got. a different specification than us.

      @bajunid yes, seems like the case, based on everyone's feedback. I wonder why byd has different AC charging standards for EU.

    Can someone explain to me if I can install an electrical charger with a 22kw power to charge my BYD seal?
    Or it is not worth it …

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  21 день тому

      AC or DC ? If it's 22kW AC charger then it's not worth it. BYD Seal AC charging can only go up to 7kW so you will be wasting the 14kW.

      He have another car that can use that 3 phase 22kw..

    • @SkyPerspective
      @SkyPerspective  2 місяці тому +2

      Yes, I don't know much about electrical system, so please feel free to enlighten me. I was told BYD Seal will only charge at 7kW single phase even when we plug into a 22kW AC three phase. Now we have proven that's the case. Still worth it, though, because it's free charging. Thanks for your sharing your comment.

      @@SkyPerspective if the car doesn't support 3 phase input, then it doesn't matter you use a 3 phase cable. The car plug will only use one Phase 1 at a maximum of 32 Amps.
      You can use a "normal" 1 phase 32 Amp cable to get 7.2kW (32A*230V= 7.3kW).
      A Tesla Model 3, for example, has an onboard charger (and charge port) that supports 3 phase current will get up to 11 kw (16A*400V*1.73=11kW). Also possible to get up to 22kW increasing to 32 Amps but the OBC doesn't support it.

      Yes I already knew and understood my BYD Seal can only charge single phase AC and at 7kW before I got this cable. I didn't buy this cable, this 3-phase cable was sent to me for free by Depow, so I took it for a test trial to see what happens, that's when I discovered there are quite a lot of free AC charging stations around. Without this cable, I cannot charge at these free AC stations.

      @@biocalicoe Yes that's my understanding too. Thanks for explaining it so well and sharing this info with everyone.
