Learning point here. Not only do you have to have the right vehicle but you need to know HOW to use it. 4WD is just throwing the switch, air down the tires, knowing how to drive in deep sand, knowing what your vehicle is capable of, carrying the rights tools such as a tire pump, shovel, jack, recovery boards, etc makes all the difference. When in doubt go practice somewhere that is close to help.
glad you made it out safely, cost is no object in this situation👍 you can use a folded-up camp chair as a traction aid, attach it perpendicular to the stuck tire's line of motion and to secure it with a ratcheting strap. check for any possible interference with anything underside
Well, in the situation I would have needed something under the tires for most of that quarter mile. But I know what I need to have now and will have them soon just in case. Usually I don't go down in roads I'm not so sure about but like I said in the video I was there in April and it didn't look bad at all. And there was a car down there so I figured if they made it, so would we. Little did I know that in April the sand is more packed down due to rain and less travelers

Enjoyed the video! White Pocket is a fascinating place, and you don’t need a permit to explore it. If you are looking for an incredible place to video or photograph, this is the place. Not sure why you thought your vehicle could make it through the deep sand. I’m always pulling people out of there who don’t know what they are doing.
I thought I could make it because I was there in the spring and it didn't seem bad at all ;we left the truck in the parking and walked), but saw a car down there and thought if they made it, I definitely could. I have a 4 wheel drive truck and that car was a 2 wheel drive. I didn't know then that in the summer it's different. In the spring not many people go there and due to that and the rain, the ground is more packed and easier to drive. By the time June arrived, it's dried up and with many people driving on it, it's now a "fluffy" sand. I didn't know this then. Love and learn. This was an expensive lesson but oh well 😆 I do plan on going back and stay for the whole day to explore. In the spring it was very cold and crazy windy so we didn't stay long.
Actually because of social media postings and incidents such as this BLM is currently proposing fees to go there now. The place is being ruined by the large amount of people that visit the place now.

@@tiablasangoriti8347 yes, she's fine. I don't think she would have liked the rest of the trip, it would have been too much hiking for her. And it was hotter than I expected. Last year it wasn't this hot. She's been to California several times but it was when I lived in San Diego. So this is different. And yes, all she does is cooks lol.

Well, I'm not very lucky when it comes to hunting but lucky when it comes to drawing tags lol I had 0 points now so first choice I put in for A31, this is an archery zone for D11 (basically same area, down by LA), but it goes from end of September through December 31, which means I can hunt through the rut and thanksgiving break (9 days) and during winter break (2 weeks), I can hunt. And it's either sex!! Worst case I can get a doe and eat meat lol. I got this tag!! There are only 1000 tags for the state and with 0 points I got it lol. For second choice I put in G3, why not, and 3rd choice for D7. I expected to get only D7 lol. For my second tag I got an archery tag again (I'll be doing that every year because this way the hunting season is longer and geographically much larger) I'll be going to A zone again in less than a month
I disagree with that. It could be just 80 degrees and the sand and ground could still be hot. I put boots in her to protect her feet for just in case. And I enjoy hiking in the heat, I'm prepared for it and do it so I can hunt in July in the 90-100 degree heat and be comfortable.
I don't do off roading so I never got those kind of tires. And I don't plan on lol. This road seemed perfectly fine in April so I didn't think I'd have a problem

I know lots of people have died hiking in hot weather, sometimes not even in that much heat and I don't get it. I carry a lot of water, most of it frozen so it stays cold. I'm prepared because I do understand the risks

The biggest learning point is not to drive past the sign warning of deep sand.
