It has always been with reverence a d national pride to watch Alyson Felix run for so many years. Even when she didn't win just knowing she was there and how well and with how much class and dignity she represented us it was a joy to see here run. This bronze was special but Alyson and Vernon both ran great for so long and earned and deserve so much respect for their professionalism and mass amounts of work to stay at that level for so long.

And how did they last so long? Both very competitive at their ages which is next to nearly impossible.
People seems to forget 30+ years ago most athletes were lucky to make finals at 2 successive Olympics with only those aided by Peds competing at more than 2 and now some make it in 5 successive Olympics and are as fast or faster than earlier years which in sprints should be an impossibility if 100% clean.

The only time Blake was deemed the fastest was in one of the relays where he had the fastest split. Individually bolt was and still is the worlds fastest man over 100 and 200m. The facts, not opinion but recorded and well known facts. You even wrote the times yourself. The lower time is the fastest time.

What ifs do not win races. Times before/after an event count for nothing. It is what they run at that time on that day. Few of the USA runners ran near their best times while some of the competitors in other teams ran better times. It is always a problem for USA teams as they have a large talent pool compared to others and many of their athletes who are favoured to win gold in individual events refuse to run in relays. This is why in Tokyo Olympics in 2021 although they had 4 fresh runners in the final they still came 3rd as better runners ran individual and their gender relays rather than the mixed relay at 400m.
What teams USA fields depends on who makes themselves available rather than who are their best runners at that distance.
And amazingly the what if x ran we would have won only comes up when they fail to win. Before the race they are always the favourites anyway. In Tokyo they were the hot favourites as the team in the final were all fresh whilst other nations had runners backing up from semis. Sometimes in relays they just do not perform as expected but still usually end up 2nd/3rd.

@@onigbajamo you have to hold each individual accountable on that relay .. first, second, and third leg are supposed to put the anchor in a good position to execute for a gold medal as we’ve seen several times on relays (and me knowing this as a collegiate track athlete) so if you don’t, your anchor is put in a position where they can panic and go into shock mid race, not having a kick/response to competition passing when there should’ve been a gap (from Allyson to Vernon and an even BIGGER one from Vernon to Kennedy). Granted Kennedy was running up against Bol & Cofil but she had a fast split with 20+ races on her legs so she did her part. Give her some grace and distribute that accountability.
