I scored a nice deal on Facebook of a couple dodgy original Nintendo Entertainment System units, and small NES Collection with some decent games. I was determined to get these OG NES systems going and after trying a bunch of stuff that didn't work, I tried making a shim to keep the carts from going too far back and pushing the pins too far. That combined with raising the pins up a little with a dental tool seems to really have done the trick.
I kind of can't believe it actually worked as well as it did lol. If you'd be interested in seeing more retro gaming or retro tech videos, let me know in the comments - thanks for watching!
I did a lot of the initial steps too (boiling, cleaning the 72) and none of those worked. As soon as I bent all of the pins upwards, ta-da! Thank you!
Found you in pat’s comment section. Saw your post. Thank you!
Same here.
No prob 👍 hope that it works for you, it has done the trick on 3 systems for me so far.
Tech With Sean- new sub over here too! I like your homemade, just like games as tech style. Keep up the great work brother.
You saved my NES
Effectively what this did is move the contact location of the pins and cart to a different location than where the wear has been. You can do the same thing by bending the pins back into position which will change the contact location. Sometimes when you buy new pins from eBay/Amazon and install they don't work if you press the tray down until they get some wear. It's a horrible design and that's why they came out with the NES II with vertical cartridge install before they launched the SNES
Hopefully this works since I just bought a Nes and it has the red blinking light
you probably dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother for the last weeks :)
Just FYI, I have been warned about comments mentioning "instaflixxer." by this guy from youtube. I almost went there but according to this guy, this is the alleged danger. Peace! ua-cam.com/video/FmmHgTC6ckU/v-deo.html
The cardboard won’t make the system too hot? I’m going to try this & I don’t want to start anything on fire 😂
Good job. Got a few Nes. Out it the garage I'll bust them out and try this trick. Also have the evoo 17 inch on order will be getting it in 2 days. Thanks for the uploads.
Nice, hope you get em going! 👍 You might clean the contacts on the carts too if they’ve been sitting for a while. I bet you’ll like the EVOO it’s a beast
@@TechWithSean Most definitely they are really dusty and yellowed, need to make a hiydroge peroxide bath for the plastic and sit in the sun for soom time. Cant wait for the evoo getting it Monday, going to be much better than my 10 year old asus g73jh.
I will test it tomorrow.
I'll come back to report.
Where is the report
@@bordfronco the problem was that my console was NTSC and i was trying a PAL game. A friend of mine did the trick by cutting a connection in the motherboard and now my console is region free and plays everything.
There you go!
Lo
One year later, how’s it holding up?
