    snare off, he used the brush to be the snare to have loose or tighter snare effect, wow have never thought of that!

    It's just amazing how much drumming has progressed in the past 80 years - from Gene Krupa/Louie Bellson/Buddy Rich to Weckl, Colaiuta, Donati, Minneman, Mayer, Benny J Greb, Wackerman, etc. It's mind blowing all the incredible stuff out there - you could spend thousands of years just listening to this great smorgasbord. If I didn't have to work I'd be down in the basement listening to all this cool shit. Gonna have to marry a rich woman and live out this fantasy!

    What I like about Jojo is they made drum machines and got rid of alot of drum players but he makes drum machine sounds that sound better than the computers do. That's the best I can describe it anyways. I don't think most drummers are doing brush work and trippy techno music.

    I love JoJo, but he really is selling those dual tone sticks. I have had them and hate them. First, the mallet at the end of the stick affects the balance of the stick and makes the 5A side worthless. Also, just use your hand to mute the drum, you have no need to use a mallet for that.

    • @TheVenusProjectInfo
      @TheVenusProjectInfo 9 років тому +1

      Brent Richards I agree they suck!

    • @tommyembrich
      @tommyembrich 7 років тому +5

      I don't think they are worthless. Maybe you haven't been able to find an application for them yet, but I use them all the time when playing with my jazz combos, as well as musicals during tricky stick-change situations. I like the new softer felt that they used for the mallet, as it gives you a much warmer tone, and it's advantageous to have a stick on the other side for smooth transitions between textures.

    • @brentrichards4191
      @brentrichards4191 7 років тому

      Sure, they have value, when you don't value stick balance. Personally, I just got creative when it comes to stick changes. There is not a drummer in my percussion ensemble that uses anything like these sticks. but if you like them and have gotten used to them then that's cool. There is just no way I would like these for playing anything swing at least on the 5A side of the stick. I do agree that the mallet side does have a nice tone.

  • @lermpy
    @lermpy 10 років тому +6

    I love Jojo Meyer as much as anybody, but this just seems like a Vic Firth commercial. Use the mallet as a muffling device? That's a stretch. A hand works just fine, thanks.
