This was a good comparison. I lived in both and often thought of the pros and cons for each state. At the end, California comes out on top as you have so much more to do and the scenery is just world class. While a lot of people hate that CA has so many rules and laws, it's just years ahead of other states that will have to implement the same laws sooner or later due to population growth. There are more and more laws and regulations coming up in Florida you never thought would come. However, to the points of hurricanes and earthquakes. The "good" thing about a hurricane is, you know a week in advance that it comes. If you have a sturdy house and be prepared, you have no issue. An earthquake on the other hand, can come any second, no preparation, whatsoever. You just hope things hold up! Also, when it comes to taxes, yes, Florida is "cheaper". However, property taxes, insurance premiums for houses and cars, HOA fees and energy are way more expensive than in California and is eating away the tax benefit.
Having lived in So Cal for 4 years and now SW Florida for longer I can say that California's weather is unbeatable. Everything else runs Florida's way. When you fly into California you realize how anything that is green is artificially irrigated, Florida is just naturally lush. The smog in California is shocking too. I lived in Huntington Beach for 5 months before I even saw Catalina Island and it shocked me how close it actually was. Literally couldn't even see it in the summer. Boating, fishing, diving and golf, Florida wins. Surfing, skiing, hiking..it's California. Natural disasters it's a wash. Mudslides, fires, earthquakes, brown outs vs hurricanes is a wash.
As a sales person, I have experienced the reality of a states that has “lower taxes” …it sucks because infrastructure is not advance, medical access, in a state like Arizona..there’s a tax for renters…low pay the dry heat is a killer, Florida is very expensive to maintain a house due to humidity, pest, red tide, insurance issues, lower pay, education system is crashing, California we have homeless from other states and higher taxes yes…but I will stay in my California
Interesting. New Hampshire has no sales nor income tax and our medical and public services excede almost every state. Its not about the tax rate... its about who is spending it. California is famous for overpaying corporations to perform public services. Florida would rather let Disney run rampant and reap the benefits.
Not even close! Would choose California. Beautiful scenery with so much to do and great weather with no humidity. I grew up on the east coast and moved west and never looked back.
Same lived in FL for 10 years, moving back to CA was best decision I made in 2000. FL is nice, but I'm a west coaster. Too many monster bugs and that nasty humidity!
@as2223 Ugh! I literally have tachycardia if I see a big 🪳...I was considering selling and leaving LBC, but I am reconsidering as I don't like/have air conditioning where I'm at.
I was born and raised in Northern California. Lived in the Central Valley, Sierra Nevada and Central Coast over the years. I definitely don't hate my home state. I don't appreciate the one-sided political situation that's grown over the last 25 years or so. That lack of balance and accountability has led to a lot of extreme, intrusive and expensive policies that has affected affordability and quality of life. That said, I love the physical beauty of California. It was home and politics would have never driven me away. The constant wildfires during the last decade has. The last place I lived was Butte County and have three megafires within 30 miles of my home since 2018 and putting up with weeks/months of unhealthy to toxic levels of smoke did. During the North Complex/Bear Fire a friend in Florida said I was welcome to visit for a bit to get out of it. I spent a week in Palm Coast and fell in love with Florida. Clean air, beautiful beaches with warm water, tons of things to do all within easy reach. Plus it's much less expensive than coastal California. A brand new 2,000 sq ft home on a 1/4 acre lot just 15-20 minutes from the beach is $400,000 or less. Plus nearly everything is less expensive except for water (which isn't really an issue given the regular rain that waters the lawn). Yeah, I'm quite happy with my move six months in.
@@dwightk.schruteiii845430 minutes from St. Augustine and Daytona, an hour to Jacksonville, an hour and twenty minutes to Orlando. It's not that secluded - there's lots within easy reach by SoCal standards. Outside of St. Augustine (which is a bit pricey) homes aren't too bad from JAX all the way down to Brevard County (Space Coast). Yeah, coastal California is nicer, but I had no hope of ever buying there. With the current fire in Butte County where I used to live (28,000 were under evacuation orders at one point a few days ago) I'm sure I made the right decision to move.
@@jeffmorse645 Yea I used to live in Volusia. We would always drive to orlando on the weekends to “do something” but that got really old really quick. Theres not much to do in Daytona and Saint Augustine besides ratchet beaches and clubs and tourist attractions that are good for really only one time. I think driving an hour in any direction to go do things because of distance (not density/traffic like in SoCal) is absurd. But sure I get your sentiment about owning a home. But I hold on to the motto that was goes up, must come down.
Interesting insight! I lived in CA from 60's to 90's, but family moved to Naples for 2 years in 80's which I visited numerous times. I did not like Florida, but the values in Naples outpaced Redondo and Palos Verdes values for sure. The growth there outpaced the local beach communities by far. I moved to Maui in the mid 90's similar to CA but better surf and water. Now in NW, best kept secret!
I lived in FL and SOCAL. Personally I prefer Cali, I grew up in fl and it’s not how it’s used to be. Less places for families because they knocking down aquariums to build apartments. The price of rent went up and the minimum wage is too low. I would say is I like how the people are more respectful and they have better variety food from different cultures. And there’s a Publix. Other than that CA is better for me.
I've lived in both, retired to Florida, but lived in Northern California for 15 years. For climate, scenery, jobs, variety of things to do, California wins hands down. But Florida has much nicer beaches and is a lot more affordable. Politics is equally weird in both states, but on opposite ends of the political spectrum. Public transportation was better in California, but the traffic and roads were horrible in California, but things are getting worse here now. I enjoyed the fifteen years I spent in CA, but I'm an East coast person. NYC would be my first choice, but our budget would be too tight if we stayed. In Florida, we live comfortably. Healthcare was better in NYC than CA or FL. I've been through an earthquake in 1989, and a hurricane. The hurricane was worse, no electricity for several days, no AC, just miserable. The earthquake was over quickly. We had to buy new drinking glasses.
I like your comparison I lived in Fl and have lived in the bay area for 20 years and planning on moving back to FL next year. I couldn't agree with you more on all your points. The only thing I wish content creators would do when comparing state tax to no state tax is people you are self employed because compared to W2 because the taxes will be completely different and own a home which is why if your self employed I believe you can save move money living FL and why I am moving back.
Not too many places where I can go snowboarding and surfing all in one day. The forests and hiking is top notch. Our geography is breathtaking. Cali all day. 😊
Compared to the east coast, yes. But it's something you get used to pretty quick! During the height of summer the water temps can get in the high 60s which is super refreshing and nice... for californian standards anyways!

California is more of Mediterranean vs a Florida Tropical climate like Cuba. California has offshore true islands also like Catalina and Channel Islands
@@SanDiegoNeighborhoods It definitely feels like a Mediterranean island when arriving at Catalina. I am planning on exploring Channel Islands next from Ventura.
Thanks for this great video! I've been in my home in SoCal almost 30 years. Retiring in 3 years. I have a good lifestyle, able to go swim in the Bay almost everyday as it's a 10min beautiful walk from my place. Some friends have been talking to me about moving to Jacksonville. They say I could save tons in taxes. However, I hate A/Cs I don't have one in my home as I get a nice breeze...but what I hate the most are bugs. I see a flying 🪳 and I'm ⚰️. Maybe the answer is to downsize and stay in the same area. Hopefully!
Please dear God in Heaven, don't ever send me back to Florida. Born and raised there. Escaped to NorCal in 1995. Love me California. Even with fires and earthquakes and expenses.
Yea, yeah Florida beaches are bluer and I guess has white sand or whatever But one thing they dnt have is a pleasure pier or Santa Monica pier which Texas && Cali both have And say wht you will abt Galveston beach not being as blue, though there are times of the year it does get blue plus all of Florida beaches are artificial && man-made anyway which would explain they’re cyanic tinge And although Galveston beaches doesn’t shine in the daytime it’s picturesque at night when the pleasure pier lights up giving the beach an Artistically appealing sight to behold Cuz even w/ crystal clear water when night falls all beaches look the same they’re all “DARK”But again luckily for Houston && Cali they’re both fortunate to have a pleasure && Santa Monica pier sitting in the water to keep it aesthetically appealing even at night Florida has nothing in comparison just my opinion And one other thing worth mentioning Texas has stunning and scenic rivers && lakes tht would blow any beach in Florida clean out of the water 1.the devils river 2.frio river 3.canyon lake && 4.Hamilton pool preserve just to name a few 😎🌊🏝️
@@SanDiegoNeighborhoodsHaving lived in Both South, FL and Southern, CA I do not understand the current situation in Florida. Neither is cheap now but In CA you know why people are paying big money for their spot in paradise.
Honestly California has nice places to live but it's expensive. Florida is the same. But it depends on which u like more Earthquakes and forest fires. That's California. Or hurricanes and crazy wildlife. Florida.
How many homes have been lost to earthquakes in California the last 25 years? How many homes have been lost to hurricanes in Florida the last 25 years? Worst hurricane season in history is predicted for this year!!! People in Florida are insane!!!!

Heres the bottomline When people live most of their life in cali moved to florida they move back to cali . When people lived most of thier life in florida move to cali , they stay in cali . Anyways Pros / cons Florida dress way lighter year around even during storms . way way better water sports boating phoenominal dinning beyond , resturants beyond . family life more close neighborhood parties and bonding , traffic most areas less time to destinations California Weather #1 #1 and folks believe me i live socal valleys and coast both no and south theres nothing like a beautiful delmar summer day or a springtime after rains in los gatos , like heaven Dry weather , no rains winds , for months . i much rather deal with earthquake fears than hurricanes and storms and flooding everywhere and Daniel!!!! You forgot to mention LIGHTENING !!! bro if you drive a lot its not fun lightening everyday July thru Oct in florida . thats what rich are here from nov thru may . Gas prices and registrations pathetic in cali , florida i pay $45 bucks for tags 2018 So lets get real in a perfect world since you built your video here which believe me done very well , live back n forth florida / cali the best.in America period You can have your texas , tennessee Georgia, and carolinas
@@SanDiegoNeighborhoods The most destructive tsunami in California occurred on March 28, 1964. It caused fatalities and destruction. There were more than 150 tsunamis that have hit California’s shoreline since the 1800’s. Some were not noticeable and some were, and caused significant damage. Additionally, the 2011 tsunami in Japan, was fatal and cost California $100 MILLION in damage to California’s ports and harbors. In January of 2022, the Tonga tsunami caused SURGES along California’s coast. Future tsunami’s might be worse. But living in Virginia, I’m very aware of the fact that Earthquakes can and will cause a tsunami. This is what makes earthquakes worse than hurricanes. You can outrun a hurricane a week before it happens.. you cannot outrun and earthquake OR a tsunami a week prior, only until just an hour before it happens.
Please move out of California. Really plan on moving out of here. Please move to either Nevada or Florida. Both states have no state income tax. I would definitely choose Florida. The freaking tax burden and cost of living is ridiculous everywhere in CA
I'd rather have an income tax. I live in Florida, and the state services are terrible. We have the most toll roads in the nation. The schools are in the bottom 50 in the US, along with teacher pay being 50th. We also have an awful political climate of right-wing nutjobs. The GOV just wiped the term "climate change" from all our laws as a way to say it doesn't exist. I stay in FL for the weather. I don't do well in the cold. If California had better (more FL) weather, we'd live there, but the Pacific is too cold.
I live in California 6 miles from Laguna Beach I love it but I hate the woke democrats and Newsome he running the state to the ground homelessness and illegal immigration is out of control! Pray for California!

@@harlow743 🤣exactly!!
Thank you for this video, it was very informative and helpful.
thanks for watching!
California is more of Mediterranean vs a Florida Tropical climate like Cuba.
California has offshore true islands also like Catalina and Channel Islands
just got back from Catalina actually. feels like a different country with just a short ferry ride over. highly recommend to my fellow californians!
@@SanDiegoNeighborhoods It definitely feels like a Mediterranean island when arriving at Catalina. I am planning on exploring Channel Islands next from Ventura.
He did not mention central FL.
Claremont FL has mountains . Biased analys
Florida was great 40 years ago, that’s becoming overcrowded police state !!! becoming expensive to live here now,!!
It's definitely on the rise because of people coming from places like CA and NY where the cost of living is much higher.
Hopefully!
well whichever way you go, don't hesitate to reach out. we'd be happy to help with your move!
Please dear God in Heaven, don't ever send me back to Florida. Born and raised there. Escaped to NorCal in 1995. Love me California. Even with fires and earthquakes and expenses.
I love it here too!
What do you think a single guy with no debt can be able to live a decent life with some savings every month if yearly income is $80k-$90k?
Floridian tracking waves be like: 5 foot sea/2 sec today? Staying home and watching tv!
yeah not much action over there 😂
Palm Beach to Cali
Yea, yeah Florida beaches are bluer and I guess has white sand or whatever But one thing they dnt have is a pleasure pier or Santa Monica pier which Texas && Cali both have And say wht you will abt Galveston beach not being as blue, though there are times of the year it does get blue plus all of Florida beaches are artificial && man-made anyway which would explain they’re cyanic tinge And although Galveston beaches doesn’t shine in the daytime it’s picturesque at night when the pleasure pier lights up giving the beach an Artistically appealing sight to behold Cuz even w/ crystal clear water when night falls all beaches look the same they’re all
“DARK”But again luckily for Houston && Cali they’re both fortunate to have a pleasure && Santa Monica pier sitting in the water to keep it aesthetically appealing even at night Florida has nothing in comparison just my opinion And one other thing worth mentioning Texas has stunning and scenic rivers && lakes tht would blow any beach in Florida clean out of the water 1.the devils river 2.frio river 3.canyon lake && 4.Hamilton pool preserve just to name a few 😎🌊🏝️
Stay tuned for a CA vs TX video!!
Is this even a question? Why are people pretending Florida compares.
Both are great but there is definitely a reason I choose to live in California...
Florida.
Yup they both definitely have their pros and cons. Pick your poison!
How many homes have been lost to earthquakes in California the last 25 years?
How many homes have been lost to hurricanes in Florida the last 25 years?
Worst hurricane season in history is predicted for this year!!!
People in Florida are insane!!!!
Florida
👍
Daniel !
Pretty good job of comparing the 2.
I would like to partner up with you . i lived in different parts and traveled many parts of both states and believe i can be more discriptive . i can be called Mr. Florida & Mr. California ( b.t.w carmel in the fall no place like it ) !
Before i give some comoarisons to your followers . ive lived in cali most of my life 50+ yrs , now live in florida .
Heres the bottomline
When people live most of their life in cali moved to florida they move back to cali . When people lived most of thier life in florida move to cali , they stay in cali .
Anyways
Pros / cons
Florida dress way lighter year around even during storms . way way better water sports boating phoenominal dinning beyond , resturants beyond . family life more close neighborhood parties and bonding , traffic most areas less time to destinations
California
Weather #1 #1 and folks believe me i live socal valleys and coast both no and south theres nothing like a beautiful delmar summer day or a springtime after rains in los gatos , like heaven
Dry weather , no rains winds , for months . i much rather deal with earthquake fears than hurricanes and storms and flooding everywhere and Daniel!!!! You forgot to mention LIGHTENING !!!
bro if you drive a lot its not fun lightening everyday July thru Oct in florida . thats what rich are here from nov thru may . Gas prices and registrations pathetic in cali , florida i pay $45 bucks for tags 2018
So lets get real in a perfect world since you built your video here which believe me done very well , live back n forth florida / cali the best.in America period
You can have your texas , tennessee Georgia, and carolinas
great insight!
It’s clear u prefer cali tho
haha just giving the facts!
Hate East Coast Florida. West coast is best.
What are the best areas of the west coast and why do you hate the east?
@@donjuan914 Clearwater/St. Pete is nice!
I pray all y’all stay there in Comifornia!
I'd love them to stay here too :)
Another ignoramus calling 40 mil people dumb. Get a life dude
Florida is not for everyone. And we are OK with it. Florida is a Semi-Tropical climate.
true! same with CA.. not for everyone
I love California. I wouldn't live in Florida if you paid me. Why do you think it's called "Floriduh"?
It’s taking a long time to get to the money…
Wellll about the earthquakes… it causes tsunamis which in return will abolish anything or almost anything in the coast of California.
hmmm i am trying to recall the tsunami of what year in California? Please enlighten us 😂
@@SanDiegoNeighborhoods The most destructive tsunami in California occurred on March 28, 1964.
👍👍👍
Please move out of California. Really plan on moving out of here. Please move to either Nevada or Florida. Both states have no state income tax. I would definitely choose Florida. The freaking tax burden and cost of living is ridiculous everywhere in CA
totally get it. if you need help with your move don't hesitate to reach out
no, you look like popeye ☮️
San Diego much like Miami is over crowded, over priced and overrated
I escaped both places ha ha !!
Going back to California. No thanks. I dont want to be involve in politics.
Come check out southern california! The weather doesn't get much below 50 in the winters which isn't too bad!
Buy a wet suit.
💯
Florida all day. At least you have rights.
Insane comment
I do agree prefer it.
I live in California 6 miles from Laguna Beach I love it but I hate the woke democrats and Newsome he running the state to the ground homelessness and illegal immigration is out of control! Pray for California!
