"They talkin' bout California like it's so dope Lemme see Cali walk through the Calliope" One of the tightest, shivest, illest, coldest one-liners in Hip-Hop/Rap....
@@theyhatecorey8009 Trust me bro, I'm well aware of Oakland being bout it. I was born here in NOLA, but moved to Oakland shortly after and been back and forth many times as a kid. With that said, the comparison isn't close to the level of violence in 6-5 Vill or Acorn in the late '80s to early '90s (when Greg and Fresh dropped this song) and the level of violence in the Calliope, Magnolia, or Desire projects. On top of that, Greg was mainly referring to SoCal (L.A., Compton, LBC) which was on fire from the gang wars and gangsta rap. The Calliope was documented as the bloodiest project in America in 1994, and New Orleans was the Murder Capital 12 times between '92 and 2011. Oakland has never held the title Murder Capital once. Let me be clear: in no way shape or form am I even remotely suggesting that that's a good thing.
@theyhatecorey8009 In 1988 when this song came out BIG difference bruh. Cali don't have projects like that. That was the Sam Scully era. Got even worse in the 90s with Telly Hankton.
To be on the yard at Southern University and this would come on...everybody would stop what they were doing and start to BUCKJUMP!! It was the most fantastic time of my 35 years ago! Shout out to Gregory D and Mannie Fresh for making my first year of college so fun!!
this was awesome, unlike most youtube videos the editing and graphics add a whole extra element of nostalgia and history to the song. This was So good , I love it...
