Watch live footage from Kyiv's Maidan Square as Russia today launched all-out war on Ukraine with simultaneous attacks coming from south, east and north, by land and by air.
It came after Vladimir Putin gave an extraordinary early-morning address to the Russian nation - delivered during a UN meeting aimed at avoiding war - in which he declared a 'special military operation' to 'de-militarise' and 'de-Nazify' Ukraine in what amounted to a outright declaration of war.
The Russian strongman also issued a chilling warning to any country thinking of coming to Ukraine's aid, vowing 'consequences greater than any you have faced in history'. 'I hope I have been heard,' he said.
Ukrainian President Zelensky then followed with his own address - delivered from home - in which he declared martial law and vowed to resist the Russian attack, come what may. 'Don't panic. We are strong. We are ready for everything. We will defeat everyone. Because we are Ukraine,' he said.

The only delusional people are those in the west that thought this was not going to happen. Putin is following the same plan … don’t people remember Crimea? You are correct, people are too quick to forget history, what Putin has said and done in the past. My family escaped from the former Czechoslovakia before the collapse of the iron curtain, and despite how much I hate the corrupt political systems of the west, I hate the Russians even more. The western corporate media is full of fickle machinations and misinformation, peddling whatever lies they are told by the different corporations, lobbyists and special interest groups that push their agenda. @Miso B Ukraine would not join the EU... Putin played the classic trick of using all possible and weird contradictions to justify this. No attack, just exercises.. "Ukraine is historically not a country", but why then a Embassy there? Declaring areas of other countries as seperate and must send peace keeping troops to protect them. And bombing the military of a whole country because of the people of 2 areas? Saying the EU gets to close..but go in Ukraine and make yourself a direct neighbour of the EU..

It’s hard to encourage Ukraine to stay strong cos these ppl have been relentlessly defending their country and not a single other nation is willing to step beside it to increase its might.
Giving weapons to Ukraine is like lip service since they initially help but later on, are meaningless without more players.
Russia is ready to get into the long-haul game but Ukraine will not last without NATO officially stepping in.
Once Ukraine and Belarus join Russia, they will be a more formidable country.
