  • In today's video, James Ivey and Paul Drew from The Studio Rats check out a pedal that has been around for some time and claims to make your guitar sound better.
The Giggity by Voodoo Labs is said to be the world first guitar mastering pedal, but does it do all it claims?
Please note this is NOT a sponsored video.
Here is what Voodoo Labs say about the Giggity pedal
Combining a robust analog overdrive circuit with powerful, easy-to-use tone shaping controls, GIGGITY is a secret weapon for optimizing the sonic character of any guitar and amp. The 4-position SUN/MOON preamp voicing selector offers a distinctive pallet of tones ranging from brilliant sparkling detail to warm and harmonically rich. Using the BODY and AIR controls, fine-tuning the sonic character is easy and intuitive. Dial in BODY to add thickness and tighten the low-end. Add AIR to bring out the high-end shimmer and detail in your guitar’s pickups. GIGGITY can either be placed at the front of the pedal chain like a classic overdrive or at the end, working like a front end of an amp. Each GIGGITY is handmade in the U.S.A using only premium components and features silent, true bypass switching.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

The Giggity has been on my board for years. It is subtle and maybe too subtle for UA-cam, but definitely something that I always would rather have than not. I think you have to hear it live and particularly when recording. It is an
    always on for me.

Long term Giggity user here - it really is a subtle effect. Really just adds that extra 10% feel and dynamic of a cranked amp. Very hard to describe what it does until you play through one.

    Thanks for reviewing this!!!!❤❤❤❤

The Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster has a switch on it to change the resonance of the pickup on your single coil strat or whatever, making it sound much more like a humbucker, that to my ears anyways is quite effective. It also is a great clean boost. I got one several years ago when all I had was one guitar, a Strat, and having been a metal player used to humbuckets my whole, life previously. The Giggity sounds to me like a really musical finishing eq, pretty much like mastering at the guitar amplifier level. I think guys got ir spot on in your final assessment but, you are called The Studio Rats after all, its a mastering eq for guitar. The Seymour Duncan is surprisingly effective at making your Strat chug like a humbucker equipped guitar,

Bright and dark, James, bright and dark 😄
In the intro, I really couldn't hear a difference.
But once you started moving through the knobs, there's a pretty clear impact.
I feel like it fills the same gap as an EQ pedal, but kind of preconfigured, or more...directed.
Great for setting up to play multiple guitars through the same amp without changing the amp, or playing your guitar through a back line amp or something...
    Good pedal, good demo.

I hate how UA-cam compresses sounds so badly we can hardly tell the differences. I think there needs to be options for music creators to pay a little money or something to keep the audio in original format it was uploaded.

UA-cam is not compressing in a noticable manner. It's a common myth. If you doubt - just check "stats for nerds" - there's opus (251) in that video. If you can REALLY hear a difference, you really have Jacob Collier level of hearing. But ...probably not.
I uploaded around 700 videos on 3 channels in my 13 years on yotube. I've NEVER noticed any real degradation between wav mixdowns and uploaded videos. So if you hear no difference between gear - it's probably either your monitors/headphones or the difference is basically... small.

Look out for James Santiago's videos on how to use the Giggity. You can use it to create a 'clean channel' when the amp is set to a gain sound. I think of it as a way to add some polish or clarity in the same way you would use the EQ on the desk. Very useful pedal, but probably not well understood.

Hi guys: I'm not convinced... I've got the BBE Maximizer that does the job and as Paul said, you clearly miss it when it's off. As to the tone converting from a single to humbucker and vice versa, I use the Boost option on my SuperSigna overdrive. Boost on after the OD: a humbucker sounds like a single coil. Reducing the boost at 10 O'clock (and adding volume to compensate) gives meat to a single coil that sounds close to a humbucker. I use these pedals for years and it gives me a lot of flexibility through any amp I'm using (all linked by a Radial Engineering headlight with a phase switch for every channel). Cheers !

This pedal should be called the Betterizer.

Would be interesting to hear the Giggity against a single coil/ humbucker emulation like in the Katana..

I’m sure it sounds great. We will have to take your word for it. It all sounds the same on UA-cam. But it does seem to round off the crunch/distortion, smooths out the harshness?

I have one of these, very underrated pedal you don’t see on many boards. Tons of tone shaping options or works great as a straight up boost .

I couldn’t keep my eyes off the Star Wars T-shirt that James was wearing. Meanwhile, I would’ve preferred it if Paul had chosen to demonstrate this pedal with more economical guitars as opposed to the two high-end models he was playing.

It’s really good but the Boss pre amp pedal is a great alternative.

This pedal is a life saver for most budget guitars with flimsy output and tone . . .it's like you add a super saturator plugin to them.

I think it sounds cracking on the strat. It makes a good sound better - just like a mastering engineer! The guitar Trinnov?

If you want to make single coil sounds like humbucker, you have to add compression in it, and quite much, and and if you want to make humbucker sound like single coil, cut lot of middle and add highs.
Without compressor, single coil does not sound like humbucker at all
