This lesson is absolutely jam packed with INVALUABLE information! I have played guitar for many years but am having to transition to lap steel due to severe arthritis in my left hand. If you are an aspiring lap steel player with even a mild understanding of song structure and music theory, this one lesson will get you farther than you could ever imagine. Thank you so much for this information Troy!...an keep the western swing and blues (open D) lessons coming, they are awesome!
I have a second lap steel, my first is in c6th tuning. I have b benders on both, I’m trying to decide what tuning to put the other one in? I’m a beginner. So, I’m guessing if I’m already learning c6 then A6 will make the most sense because what I’ve already learned will translate right? I wasn’t sure if the bender would make any difference in the choice. I had originally bought two rolling palm benders to I could simulate pedal steel. They don’t both fit at once, so I’m going to put one on each. I could potentially put the other one as a g bender if there would be any use for that….Basically I’m just trying to play country and honkey tonk and western swing.
I haven't bought my lap steel yet but I am confused on string gauges and tuning. If I bought a guitar and had strings for C6 tuning on it will it also handle A6? would that be a tune down from C6 or tune up?
@@LessonsWithTroy Thank you . I was on another website "John Ely" and he was showing a listing of all different tunings using different string gauges. I found it very confusing.
Best lessons I've found.

Keep the Western Swing stuff comin!! 😆
Great lesson. Reminds me of Wayne hancocks steel players sound. Like on the A town blues record.
Am going through these. Trying to get that sound. A tuning sounds better than any of them so far

I'm getting ready to install 2nd and 3rd string benders. Do you think C6 strings can handle the 2nd string bending up to D?

Yes, C6 = CEGACE and A6 = C#EF#AC#E
