The room they are are calling the main dressing room was actually a storage room back in the '80's rock scene. The headliner dressing room was a large room in the corner over looking the marquee. The entire top floor of The Whisky a GoGo has been changed, divided up, and rearranged since then. I was the main office secretary there from 1971-1983.
I remember seeing Van Halen here in the summer of 1977 several times while waiting for their first album to come out. Leaning on the stage with Eddie tearing it up and Dave Roth jumping around like a mad man.
I remember seeing Motley Crue play there when they were still selling their first album on Leathur Records out of cardboard boxes.
They were street hustlers. Rap guys do the same thing selling mixtapes or CDs 💿 out of their trunk. That’s smart! Cuts out the middlemen.
@@dynjarren7523 dont compare rap n..... shit to that famous groups;nothing the same
Hanging at the Whiskey is one of the few things I miss about LA....
Was really glad to hear the guy say W. A. S. P. ,Blackie rocks !
Man I really need one of those Gibson hats
Me too
I'll sell you mine...
Sure thing! But it’ll cost you two arms, a leg, and an eye! Oh and theirs no refunds and the hat will probably fall apart in a week
I'm gonna need one of those Gibson trucker hats immediately.
Fond memories of working there in the early '70's!
Love these episodes and diggin the station wagon with the 8 track!🎧
The stereo in Tracii's car is LOUD!!!!
I was lucky enough to work there for a few years. Met a lot of cool people. Good times. Glad to know it survived Covid.
Gibson TV... I'm glad I subscribed. It is now one of my MUST watch UA-cam channels.
You have to have been there to really understand the scene,I’ll never forget it!!!!! I loved the pretty boys, I was like a kid in a candy store!!!!!
80’s LA metal lives on. It’s timeless.
OK Gibson. NOW you are getting it. Sell lifestyle.
One thing about Mark he always asks the best questions.
Forgot about the band Junkyard they were great . I liked the bands like shark island , Beau Nasty , Roxx Gang, dirty lookS, drama Rama, cult, and Lillian axe. Harpos in Detroit is where most of those bans played. Traci sparked up a forgotten memory
,,,,,dude,,,,,there you are,,,,too cool...on 8-track.😯...what a great vid,,,,for those of us not able to see cali!!!a landmark for music for sure,,,thx pat..Land o' lakes,wi.usa.
These videos on this channel are out of this world
A great insight into appearing there. Hasn’t spoken to Axl for 32 years. Probably not the only one.

The far out display wasn't there when I was last there in 93
Love the car
Wow cool vids
Luv the hat too...lol
Interesting they said that @6:41 since only Gibson's seem to break a headstock on a small bump like that!
Satyricon shirt!!
what's the name of the song that played in the car?
Robbin "King" Crosby RIP
How does one get to play a show here ?
Is the Whiskey still open and if so does any bands still play there?
yeah it's still open. Even Covid won't shut that place down. :D
A La Catre Baby!
Look it up
I knew he'd pick George. Rightly so.
You should really cover The Tabernacle in Atlanta GA, ..And The Orange Peel Asheville NC. I bet anyone anywhere, you see a band at one of those 2 places, and it will forever change you. Seen The Mars Volta Frances tha mute tour at the tabernacle, and seen Hank 3 like 3 times at the Orange peel, and Nashville pussy, and Rev Horton heat. ...
Has Mark purchased a pair of big boy shoes yet?
I didn't see any doors poster or photos

Not a word about Van Halen......
So disappointing. No view of the bar, no view of the cage that swung from the ceiling in which a girl in white boots and mini-skirt was the DJ. No view of the tables and chairs where people sat. Why not show those? Have they all gone?
Metallica at the whiskey? I don’t think so
Anyone want to buy a 2015 Les Paul 😂
My favorite best band ever , THE DOORS AM OBSSESED WITH JIM MORRISON.... sorry but hate the rock metal
Dirty unwashed commentator 😢
all terrible takes
Awesome that they got Tracii!! Respect to Mark and Gibson for getting such an amazing guitar player that defines cool!
I saw the Doors at the Whiskey in the summer of '67 I think it was. If I remember right those upholstered seats were the same red back then. Yeah, it was cramped but a lot of good things were passed around and you could feel the music go right through you. Course you couldn't take your eyes off Jim. He wore his famous brown leather pants that night with a silver/turquoise concho belt. Ray Manzarek (RIP) played that organ and it would grow into this kind of droning, pulsing, hypnotic sound creation. Add in virtuoso guitarist Robbie and Densmore and voila. It was wild. Many a joint was smoked out in back of the place.
Here I am at 59 years old. I have never been to a rock concert. I have heard stories all my life about the Whisky and the legendary rock stars that have played there. Now seeing the inside for the first time. Man, I can't begin to imagine what a feeling it must be like to be in that room and listen to live music wow! That has to be mind blowing, Nice interview.
It’s not too late!, please get out and go to one!! I’ve been to so many In my life but I am 65. I still go if I can get someone to go with me!
I was just there last October, that shit was wild and so fun. Thevenue is perfectly sized and they don't oversell like a live nation venue usually does
@@quinny6920 I just go and do it myself don't wait for someone to give you permission or help you out. I'm going to West Hollywood to see the Whisky this December and it will be a pilgrimage.
Goooo! Don't think I've ever regretted going to any concert. Always think to myself, why don't I do this more often!
It is like a religious experience when rock gets played there!
This was a great video. Well done. Really enjoyed the stories and old pics. Cool old station wagon too!
The music scene is one of the main reasons why I want to Live in la
but today no is like that at in the 80s
I wouldn't live anywhere else. Greatest city in the world.
Thanks for the tour... and iam already emotional looking at the motorhead jacket.. Lemmy.. U live..forever..
. Forever...
This guy got to see everyone around him get big but his band never made it past the clubs. Although some of them got destroyed by Fame and the Rockstar lifestyle so maybe he’s better off.
Gonna be there next week 15th/16th Jan to see The Warning. Travelling from the UK to visit the legendary Whisky a Go Go, it’s going to be epic!
He's wearing a Satyricon t shirt! nice
Great band!!!
Great vid. Goes way back even before the Doors.
From Sidney, Ohio and 52 years old.
Made it to the Whiskey in 91. My best friend was stationed at Edwards and we flew into L.A. He picked us up at LAX with C&L in the cassette deck on Sunset and the song was Showdown, Riot on Sunset.
Parking was a bitch but the babes were like none I had ever seen and they weren't stuck up.
RIP EVH
Gibson, interview with JOHN SYKES please
Anything with Sykes is overdue but he's such a recluse... at least Nuno Bettencourt became more talkative on the last 5 years thanks to Rihanna's press & collaboration.
Remember don't do meth at whiskey a go go
My big regret was never having played The Whiskey in my LA days. Did the Troubadour and Roxy tho.
Edward J. Rodriguez I seem to remember the sound on stage was best at the Roxy out of those three rooms. The Viper Room was cool two. I do remember the Whiskey being loud like he said. I only played each of those rooms once though. In the 90s, not in their hey day.
Chris Lester Thanks a lot. Now I regret not playing Viper Room. Lol! What bands were you with?
Edward J. Rodriguez Ha! I was in Wild Horses, Zenboy and Custom 500. I subbed for a Queen tribute band at the Troubador. I really liked FM Station and the Coconut Teazer too.
Chris Lester I know I remember hearing of the second band. I was in Ludlow and later Lure. The second band almost exclusively played The Gig on Melrose. Great place to play.
Edward J. Rodriguez I seem to remember Ludlow. I never played The Gig. I remember The Garage. Bourbon Square was quite the dive.
Scratched the Whisky off my bucket list last year. I saw the the Fast Times show my first night then, randomly the next day, after having happy hour in The Rainbow and Rockin' Reillys, Corey Feldman of all people. Curtis Young was with him
I am planning I can make it to the NYE show
I lived on Larrabee a block away but i was in third grade and not a clue what was going on. Remember the "Doors" name however. Several years later while in college we were playing the strip, Guizzari's mainly.
I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE BEEN THERE IN THE HEIGHT OF IT ALL!!
Same man. If only I existed back then. I Was definitely born in the wrong time
Tons of history at the Whiskey. I have had the privilege to play there. Neat to see the green rooms (3rd story) again.
haha traci is like me he says Page is A f...... Hippy
Envious and I love the hat!
Lived 2 miles away and hung out there and the other clubs on the strip during the 80s and worked there in 02
Dude I would kill to perform there
Super #OfTheEpic for sure. Amazingly over the top cool vid drop. Thank you. 🤙🏼💯🍻
This is Delibal 🍸
I saw Roxx Gang there in 86 before they broke big-time!
Great band!
Great video!
If New York have the CBGB (a little later), L.A got Whisky A Go Go :D :D :D
Played there.

I wonder if Gibson meant to edit out "break your headstock"
Jimi Hendrix lived a couple blocks up for some months.
Bring It on Home Boys!!! Legendary Venue, Legendary Bands!!!
