  • This video shows CLEARLY, and CORRECTLY, how to install bindings on usgi magnesium snowshoes to avoid strap slippage.
It differs from methods described on other sites, especially with respect to the toe strap.
This method avoids having to retighten the straps when underway and also avoids unnecessary wear and tear on your straps.
Wearing incorrectly strapped snowshoes can result in danger. This video was created in response to the several videos on this topic that put the wearer in potential danger.
    Good luck. Stay safe.

Best instructions I've found on the internet for attaching these bindings. The "instruction sheet" that came with my snowshoes was worthless, so Joan's video really saved the day. We just got a foot of new snow, so I found this video just in time! Thanks Joan!

Hi Joan, I just bought a pair of the USGI Mag. snowshoes from Sportsman's guide and the shoes are great but the paper instruction sheet for the bindings are about useless. I was totally lost until my wife found your video. Clear, easy to follow instructions. With out your video I'd still be lost! Thanks so much! I attended Arctic survival training in AK.in 1989 but couldn't remember how these things attached. Again thanks.

Nice! A lot of of videos are very wordy. You get to the point with perfect and efficient instructions.

Outstanding instruction! While I had forgotten how to do this correctly, she presented it in a much more calm, clear and relaxed manner than I learned 42 years ago as a young Marine. Never once did she scream, "DO YOU UNDERSTAND?". There is absolutely no way to improve on this, it is perfect!

Thank you So Much! You helped me,
I was dead in the water, so to speak. It’s quite obvious there are a lot of other grateful snow lovers ect. Who were in the same bind-ing LOL. That I found myself in. Your simplistic and direct Instructions also helped a lot of viewers, myself Included of course.

Just recently bought a pair of these for my wife and I. Your video was a tremendous help in installing the bindings. Been a couple of decades since I was issued these things, and even back then they already came strung so I never really had to figure it out for myself. Thank you very much for the tutorial!

Thank you! This is the most comprehensive video instruction I have ever seen! I bought the snowshoes from a gas station who had them sticking out of the snow in front of the station. I know nothing about snowshoeing, and certainly not about bindings, I could not have done it without this very excellent video. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Fantastic instructions that made the ones that came with the bindings look like a joke. Unfortunately, my snowshoes didn't have even remotely evenly spaced lacing, but that just made it somewhat difficult to put on the bindings, not impossible. Thank you for helping us lost sheep!

You're the best! Thank you very much for this extremely useful video Joan.
I bought some of these US military snowshoes a year & a half ago for backup
to some Tubbs modern ones BUT there was no information on how to install
the binding and I am not very smart so the military snowshoes were just
gathering dust in the corner of my living room.
Now I can use them from time to time & count on them for backup if my
regular snowshoes are not usable or available.

I wore these for many years in the Cdn Army but we had a simpler binding more suitable for a soft-toed mukluk style boot. The US army binding needs to be worn with more rigid toed boots so you can tighten the toe strap securely.

Total newbie here, bought a set of those exact army snowshoes but did not understand even basic concepts, for instance the fact that the toe should dip in the hole with each step. This video really clicked the lightbulb on in my head, thanks! From what I have read from other sources, they say the army snowshoes are great but the original binding are very poor compared to what you can get. Do you find this to be true? Mine did not come with the bindings so I bought GV double use style bindings.
