I love your videos! I also love your book!!! The first night I read 60 pages. You would think I would be finished reading it. But….we had massive rain!!! The coop and extended run run got flooded overnight. We thought we got it under control but while I spent time with my visiting 18 month old grand child it rained. Mostly it was light rain but everything got flooded again and worse then before. The one year old chickens were terrified of the the expanding horse stall pellets. Then when we buy sand down they were terrified of that. Today seems to be starting great though. I highly recommend Dahlia’s book to everyone with chickens or planning to get chickens! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
You have great information especially to new chicken parents. I love fermenting feed which I have done now for over a year. I also feed dry crumbles but feeding fermented feed makes my feed last longer as it fills them up. They can’t wait til I fill the bowls with the ferment. Yes I do a head count. I was making one Las summer. I searched for hours into the dark. I found her hiding in some tall grasses and she had 12 eggs she was sitting on. I had no idea she was laying these eggs daily they were so well hidden.
I do not permit migraine I do not like lamenting grain combat is fermenting I'm drunk your chickens will get drunk on that it turned into alcohol I found that out the hard way p yes you're making alcohol that will get you do not permit your you better get permission from the government fermenting is alcohol I'm praying you all know this yes I'm having trouble in my phone my speaker and I'm telling you you better talk to the government before you try fermenting fermenting alcohol
You have been so helpful to me this past year as I’ve navigated my chicken journey. I started out with 3 lost one and now have 6. I never thought that having chickens would make me a better person. Or should I say made me a happier person. 😊❤️
Newbie here and my small flock of 9 LOVE Scratch N Peck! It looks and smells healthy and they gobble it right up. I am going to try fermenting it for them and see if they like it. Thanks Dalia!
I have pretty much the same routine as you do. I clean the coop every morning, scraping the poop boards. I tell the chickens "Mama's got to clean the poopies" and they all come running to watch me. Also, Love your book! I'm seeing it on sale everywhere in East Tennessee, the farm stores, big box stores, the mall, everywhere!
You answered a huge question. I live in the mountains with a ton of wildlife daily. I saw these big feeders and thought that there is no way I could use one of those. I knew that would be inviting trouble if I just left food out. I already decided I would just go and feed them everyday. I want the interaction anyways. I am really trying to get educated before the coop is done. We have been planning on having chickens for 2 years. That's because we have fox, racoons, bear , you name it. My husband is building it like fort knox before we bring our babies home. It's finally going to happen in Spring! I am going to keep watching all your videos before I have hands on experience. Thank you for making it fun to learn.
I wait until I feed before I leave mine to out too, I have been mixing my own seeds the last few months now have almost 6 year Olds laying again I also count my chickens and ducks at night everyone calls me crazy 4 it so glad to hear you also do that
Funny how I already do the majority of these things. I havd always done a head count at bedtime, too. I can't relax until I know they are all there and safe. I have a routine with the ducks that when I tell them it's bedtime they start to waddle to the coop. My happy place is my backyard withmy chickens. I can sit out there for hours.
Henlo! I appreciate the affirmations that your video today gave me. We’ve recently started fermenting feed, because of you 😊 I count our tiny flock all day. It’s OCD - Chicken Edition. Thank you for all of your good advice and for teaching us! ❤
I simply can’t afford your feed but I do use Texas naturals. This is my routine. I’m dealing with two with sour crop, One is good, and the other also has water belly. My routine is a little more detailed at this point, she’s not a layer, but I love her and am doing my very best to save her❤️🐓. I adore you and your channel Madam president!!! Oh that you were ACTUALLY our president, then every American would know the joy of chicken keeping and we wouldn’t be attacking each other!!!!
Thank you! Always good to see you and your flock. Enjoying your great book as I think about ideas for a new coop and a different place in my yard more shady area. Gets so hot here in Texas.
Dalia thank you so much for this. I'm purchasing my first flock in a couple of weeks and this has answered a LOT of my questions. Love, love, love your channel.
With that many chickens, you better have scratch and peck seeds as your sponsor! That stuff is expensive, but I buy it because it’s great. I switch to the one that’s whole grains, and I sure meant that. They like to pick all the wheat berries out.
This is gonna be long… So we had a very sick chicken we had to dispatch. I’ve been a mess over it for days now. She’s had diarrhea for a couple of weeks & kept losing weight. I watched her whither away & get so frail, she couldn’t hold herself up in the end. The crazy thing was she wanted to eat had somewhat of an appetite. But she clearly wasn’t getting any nutrients. The vet has informed me that they are no longer allowed to medically treat chickens anymore 🤬 Can you believe that?! It’s very expensive to take them in just to get looked at. All theyre allowed to give me is pain meds. Well, thanx to you, Madame President & your book, I’ve figured it out! She had coccidiosis. We lost another Hen about 2 months ago. She had diarrhea most of her life (she was 9mnths). I just figured she wasn’t a strong bird, we just didn’t know & everyone else was fine. But Waffles moved into DD’s nesting box & I think she contracted it there. I cleaned the box but not well enough. Plus we’ve had incessant rain storms and the mud has been out of control in their run. It was the mud too which I would’ve never figured that out if it wasn’t for your book. So after all of that, I wanted to say thank you! I’ve treated my birds and hope this will go no further. 🤍♥️🤍
I’m so sorry for your loss, but I’m so glad you were able to help your flock. That’s wild about the vet. Did they say why they were not allowed to treat chickens?
@@WelcometoChickenlandia due to the Evian flu. Just a couple months prior we brought one in for a secondary infection from pox & they gave us antibiotics. We’ve since brought one in that was limping & she told us then, we’re in California. We’ve really been put through the test in just a year having chickens 😵💫😂
Great advice as usual. I have to go watch the fermenting feed video! I think it will help me get more out of the Scratch & Peck feed for my fluffy babies!
I do a head count even though my girls are in the garage in a playpen. The coop is just about finished and just needs some cleanup and bedding put in (new build). I still have a bit to do in the run, but I'm waiting on some parts (converting a hoop house to a run). You give such great advice. Your videos are also fun. Do you recommend Orange Guard as a preventative measure?
I'm going to be starting my chicks on Scratch and Peck next month when I get them 😊 it's not local local to me, but it is produced in my state, and I like that. I also really like the ingredients.
I love your videos they are very helpful. I have 7 chicks they are five weeks old and noticed diarrhea in the coop. Gross but it looks like melted caramel😬 Could this possibly be coccidiosis? I bought Corid yesterday. How do you suggest I sanitize the coop and treat the poops.
What do you think about feeding your flock with beans and rice and/or pasta? I was giving my birds beans soaked overnight but I recently read that I should be boiling the soaked beans for at least 15 minutes
Beans can be lethal to humans as well as chickens. Kidney beans are especially toxic. After you soak your beans over night. Discard that water. Rinse your beans throughly and add more water and boil for at least an hour. Longer is better. Making sure they are easily mashable. Canned beans should never be fed to chickens. The salt content is to high for birds. Dry Rice needs to be rinsed to remove the chemicals before boiling. Rinse until the water is clear. Then boil to soft stage. I add twice as much water to my rice when feeding to birds. Pasta should be cooked the same. Never feed birds any beans, rice or pastas Al dente or DRY. Rice must be cooked comply . No Al Denta. It can swell in their croop and kill them. I've had my hens for a year. They are my pets. The eggs are the bonus. Enjoy☺.
Question. How early do you put them to roost? In their coop for the night? How long is idea for them to go without food and water? Or do you put that in the coop at night? I have chicks that are still inside my house
Do you have a video on clipping their feathers? I just got chickens and I’ve seen videos of people cutting their wings so they don’t “fly” when they jump? Any recommendations!?
Hi Dahlia 👋🏻 I feel daft…but what is the one you’re holding at the start called? I think you’re saying E-bear but the transcript says a bear 🐻💁🏻♀️ Other than my daft question…great video, very helpful 🙏🏻 and great glasses 👓 as usual 💚🍀
Only thing i will add for any UK viewers is that here it is illegal to give kitchen scraps to our chickens (only passing on the laws here, i’m not advocating or criticising this) and before anyone in the States or elswhere say how ridiculous it is…we know😂It used to exclude food prepped in a vegan kitchen but that has very recently changed and now it’s all kitchens……..for me, my garage is at the side of my house so if i buy salad stuff from the supermarket and take it into into my garage and into my garden, without going through my house…then it hasn’t been in my kitchen😉
I do not have a rooster, only 3 ladies and now all of a sudden one is attacking me and runs after me … I guess she is taking on the “rooster role”?? And it’s only getting worse 🙈
How does one go on vacation or on a weekend trip though? Who is going to do all of this for the chickens? That’s a concern my boyfriend has, we don’t have / know anyone within 2 hour drive that would be capable, or willing lol
Miss Featherbrain Bri wanted me to reach out to you (and, yes, she said you are GOD). Please drop me a line for the not-online question to ask you. Love the video!
Madam, President, I have an unusual problem. Nobody believes me. I am with my first flock of barred rock hens that are approaching a year old. When the weather began warming up, my six hens would lay 3 or 4 eggs one day and TEN the next day. I thought we were not picking up eggs, so we went to great lengths to confirm all the prior days’ eggs were gone. And it is correct. How are my six hens laying 10 eggs in one day? I watch and see them sitting for long periods of time.
Madam president of chickenlandia your hard cloth mesh on your Coupe looks like it lies flat and the only kind I can find to buy is like hard cloth it's all rolled up and it's really hard to get it to lie flat. Are you using a different kind of mesh cloth? I humbly submit this request your highness.

Hi 👋

I do a head count even though my girls are in the garage in a playpen. The coop is just about finished and just needs some cleanup and bedding put in (new build). I still have a bit to do in the run, but I'm waiting on some parts (converting a hoop house to a run). You give such great advice. Your videos are also fun. I wouldn’t use orange guard preventatively unless I was in an area where there was a lot of fowl tick. 😃

New on here- thanks for all the great info. By the way Ebert is he a turkey?
I count too!🥰 like 4 times OCD LOL
😂
I mix my own feed using whole grains. Can you ferment whole grains?
Yep you sure can!

what do you recommend for calcium supplement? Oystr shells? Flakes?
Hi! Are you feeding the ducks & chickens the same feed? Which type of Scratch & Peck are you using?
It’s layer and it’s good for both ducks and chickens!
What do you think about feeding your flock with beans and rice and/or pasta? I was giving my birds beans soaked overnight but I recently read that I should be boiling the soaked beans for at least 15 minutes
Beans can be lethal to humans as well as chickens. Kidney beans are

Do you add anything extra to the scratch & peck for your ducks?
No, it’s duck and chicken feed. But I do give them a sprinkle of nutritional yeast when I remember. I add it after its fermented, not before. :)
Sadly I can’t get Scratch and Peck anywhere near me in East Tennessee
Oh that’s a bummer. I wonder if you can ask your local store whether they will carry it?
