Back in 1991 when this movie came out a girl who I had met at Macalester College wrote me a letter and talked about it. I went to see it at a suburban Minneapolis movie theater, seems such a short time ago. It pretty much altered the course of my life. I had just dropped out of college and it inspired me to go on the road. Bless you, I've been looking for this for years.
I'm a sophomore at Macalester college right now - I watched this with my girlfriend from Seattle in my dorm. The soundtrack also has haunted me since I saw it, and I suspect it will continue to do so.
I took a girl to see My Own Private Idaho in Coolock, Dublin in the early 90s. I genuinely thought it was a Bill and Ted affair. Needless to say there was no tongue that Sunday night. The music from it always stayed with me even if she went home straight after it
I saw this film last summer, at a time when I was searching for something/someone to fill a gap in my life, that I had lost along the way. This film helped to show me that I wasn't searching alone. Thank you for going to the man himself to find this music, Bless Bill Stafford for making it and may River be resting peacefully, he was an angel that flew too close to the ground.
I love this soundtrack so much. This film brings me genuine happiness and I listen to this as a way to tell myself I’ll be okay. Rest in peace River Phoenix, You talented and sweet boy! I would have never discovered you if it wasn’t for a random fan edit of this amazing film. I also live for this films cinematography. You’re a true icon and your spirit and legacy will roam this Earth for forever. Thank you for giving me a new perspective of life. The world sadly wasn't ready for you yet though. 🕊
Huge thank you for taking the time to reach out to Bill Stafford to get this and uploading for everyone to enjoy as well. Absolutely fell in love with his work from the movie and was worried I wouldn’t be able to find any official recordings. Thank god for the internet lol
Uma trilha sonora de filme muito boa. Escuto-a sempre que me sinto solitário vagando por algum lugar por aí na minha cabeça. Este filme me deixou com um vazio e uma dor no final, mas é uma obra-prima. Amar é doloroso
THANK YOU FOR POSTING! I've been looking for these! the steel guitar is so dreamy and gorgeous. Glad this soundtrack won't be turning into one of those lost media situations
I messaged Bill on Facebook almost two weeks ago now about buying a copy of the album, but he still has yet to reply. Is there anything in particular you did in contacting him in order for him to notice you? Thank you so much for posting the album here so I can listen to it in the meantime!
I didn't, but I did message him during the pandemic - no doubt he was spending a lot more time paying attention to Facebook back then (as I'm sure we all were)!

This is such a nice comment to read
The steel guitar right at the beginning of MOPI sets the dreamy tone. It's such a huge part of the entire movie.

I’d love to get a copy of his other records/videos if you’ve got any to share! I do not have a Facebook, otherwise I’d message him myself
I want to make something this beautiful
Why can’t I find this album anywhere else but here
I believe Bill self-released his albums, in the pre-streaming age. It's up to him whether he'd want to have them on streaming services!

Can anyone tell me what song is playing in the background in the scene where Mike is with his father in the trailer?
