Make sure you are under good lighting when you try to replace the cushions, I failed several times and got frustrated, I moved to better lighting and got it done the first try. Makes it easier to see the tabs. Also if you look at all 10 tabs, two of them are closer to each other than any of the others. I found it easiest to get those two done first, then to move on from there. Hope this is helpful to at least one person out there cause even after watching the video I had a rough time at first.
I was doing this for 30 minutes, watched other videos and tutorials and this is what helped me see how it was able to hook underneath for the ring itself 😅😂 TY!
Hey, Javier your video for replacing the Bose QC35 is "Grandma Approved" . It was easy to watch and very informative. I enjoyed your step by step tutorial with "don'ts and 2 listing options on where to buy replacements. Thank you so much. Wish I could give you 2 thumbs up.
I was jogging frequently in mine for 2 and a bit years... they smelled pretty bad. Just popped on your vid as I opened the replacement set I had bought. You saved me a lot of head scratching!
Mine were starting to crack from the amount of usage, popped on a new pair and they feel like new but I can't help but feel that noise cancellation isnt as strong as it was on the original set, even though they're all installed properly and the pad is under the clips as required.
I'm on my second set of bose head phones. I've been re-sewing the foam back in and I keep worrying that I'll damage them. I was doing this because I didn't know they were replaceable and I can't afford new ones. So I'm giving you a Big Thank You!!! This will save me a ton of time and prolong them. I have ear sensitivity and use them ALL the time.
Second time I have changed mine on the same headphones....forgot how I did it the first time years ago. The video was great. Much cheaper than buying new headphones! Thanks!
Add me to the list of people who are grateful for this video! The ear pads on my QC35 II's started to flake apart and I ordered a replacement set nearly identical to the ones shown here, and your step-by-step (especially the suggestion of working under bright light) was perfect. One thing though: I opted to leave the original "L" and "R" shields in place and only replaced the pads. I'll update here again if or when this causes my QC35 II's to burst into flames 🔥😄🔥
I have followed your instructions and it works perfectly. It's awesome to get the noise insulation back. Thank you. Javier, you are the ruler of the entire galaxy.
Excellent tutorial Javier. Many thanks! Good to know companies like Bose still have consumers in mind by providing replacement parts. And yes... mine were as bad as yours!
Such an easy tutorial to follow - thank you so much! Also appreciate that you shared your errors. The "click" to attach and easy removal made all the difference. So happy I could keep these amazing headphones
Many thanks Javier! Even after 3 years your video tutorial is still being very helpful. Just replaced mine after many struggles and almost regretting buying a replacement.
A little tip some may find helpful. Mark off with a pencil the locations of each tab. It makes it so much easier to figure out where you need to click or place the rim underneath the tabs when you are putting the new pads on. It literally took me a minute for each side having previously struggled for ages and wanted to throw them out of the window!
saw this video a couple of months ago and didnt know this was possible. This week I finally ordered the muffs (same ones as in the video) and applied them to my bose q35. brand as new. thank you for the easy to follow video and making it known this was possible.
Thank you for the video. I've used qc for about 4 years, and the only part that's started to wear out was the cushions. Your video was very helpful for replacing them.
Javier: Nicely done and simply explained - there's an art to that. Believe it or not, I bought mine in 2017 and the right earpiece just split wide open several days ago (always handled them with care, so they lasted). I bought this exact same earpiece replacement that you used in the demo, and will find out tonight how apt I am at the process. Hopefully like a breeze. Many thanks for this little video, it was very helpful.
@@hellenicgyp5966 Yes; other earpiece just disintegrated, so will be doing the other earpiece pad saved from 2 years ago (the installed earpiece doing quite fine).
Thanks legend! On to my third set of replacement cushions now but the headphones themselves just won’t die - four years or so of use every single day. Kudos to Bose
Really appreciate this after reading reviews on how much trouble people had installing the new pads. I also thought I was going to have to dish out money for a new set and discovered replacement pads yesterday. So happy and relieved!🤓
Thanks Javier! Saved me from paying dealer prices AND now I feel more like a man for having done my own work haha! But seriously thanks. It was easy enough - thanks to you!
mine were literally sitting on the desk next to me when I saw this video…my pads have been disintegrated for a few months and I had no idea they made replacements lol…just ordered them - THANK YOU!
Thank you, I was so upset when my expensive headphones apparently had this problem. I was shocked at the replacement price (it’s worse in CAD), and was scared to try and do replacements myself. Your video helped so much, thank you!
Thank you. I had no idea what half the terms meant in the instructions. I can still remember getting my Bose headphones in one of those early-bird-only-for-an-hour sales on Amazon. I didn't realize how good of a deal I got until the pads started to deteriorate, and then when I saw that they were nowhere near the $99 I paid for them, I started researching replacing the ear pads. Amazing transformation!
The video was a great help to see what needed to be done with the tabs - thanks! For others that may see this in the future (including myself 😃), I bought a knock-off set of pads that didn't come with a tool. I found a car panel tool to work great in getting the rubber rim into the tabs. You still want to be a little careful so as not to pierce the padding with the tool.
Very nice quality DYI video, Javier! Wasn't sure how this little project was going to go down as there were no instructions with the replacement kit. It's not rocket science but your detail video and audio of the snapping sounds when the pads retainer snaps, helped me get it in a few minutes. You're a natural at this, man. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much this is so helpful. Especially that most ear pads don't come with a replacement guide.

Thank you SO MUCH. I wasn't able to click-fit the new cushions till I saw your video. Your explanation is so clear it made the whole thing very easy. :D
Great video, my second time replacing my earpads - using your video! I wanted to note, I went with the generic ones first - terrible choice ( I just got in my new original Bose today), the generics lasted a year, the foam collapsed, the black dye from the earpad is peeling and depositing on my ear, or counter where I lay them. As soon as the foam started collapsing, I was getting lots of outside noises coming in. Bite the bullet and by original. Thank you again, your video is a huge help.
Oh man I'm glad I found your video! I'm not the most handy person in the world, so to match up replacement cushions with 20 hooks is going to be one helluva challenge. Wish me luck and thanks!
Just got the same replacement followed by the link you shared and replaced it. It was not a difficult process and the new pads provided a brand new feeling. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the dupe recommendation. I held off ordering pads from Bose bc I thought the replacement was a planned obsolescence strategy - the headphones are built to break so you spend money fixing them, and they manufacture your consent in creating waste. However, once I removed the pad they were VERY gross underneath, so although I still think the pads aren't the best quality (foam coming out after only a year), I can see a hygiene benefit in changing the pads. Thank you!
Thanks man this helped a lot! I was worried at first that I just couldn’t use these anymore and didn’t think first if there were replacements, when I had seen there were I immediately looked up UA-cam to see how to replace them correctly and there are other videos that did the same mistakes. Seeing your vid helped a lot thanks!
Excellent - thanks for your help on this! I, actually my wife ;-) was able to install in less than 5 minutes. Now my headphones look and feel brand new again!
So I got my replacements and just swapped them. It was very easy to get the old ones off after Javier's note about the clips (I ended up not destroying the old ones getting them off). Putting the new ones on was a bit tricky until I got the hang of it. Anyone reading this who hasn't replaced yet- pay attention to the part in the video where he describes using his thumbs and index finger. Once I got one side on, the other side was very easy.
Bro thank you so much! I was literally about to go out and buy new headphones but was like... Nah man there's gotta be a cheaper route. I definitely did not want to waste a few hundred bucks to avoid the aging black residue on my ears, but this made me happy.
Thanks, so helpful! A couple of more tips I learned while doing this 1) in case yours didn't come with such a plastic tool (original Bose didn't), and you need one to get it to click (my longer nails were getting in the way) - a Lego brick separator or sth similar works well! 2) be careful when pulling off the papers off the glue - I let my kiddo do it and came off with the glue... but hopefully the cushions are firmly enough in place so it shouldn't move much :-)
So glad to see these are replaceable because I accidentally took a whiff of mine at the gym the other day and my god are they disgusting. Definitely gonna replace them soon :) I was gonna be so mad if they weren’t especially how nowadays most things on tech items aren’t replaceable and you just need to get a new one
I got all the way to the end of the video and looked up and was like “I know this dude!!” Great video Javi, it was very helpful..got my pads swapped out. Hope you are doing well man!

great video man, glad i found out you can just replace the pads too lmao. i had no idea you could actually take the pads off . I was under the assumption that bose made it so you had to buy new headphones or deal with the pads falling apart
I used the same ear pads you highlight in your video (red camo). After a few months they became very uncomfortable. I switched back to the Bose originals which are more supple (less foam) and more comfortable. Better sound too. I should have spent the extra $16 from the beginning. Thanks for the video.
Appreciate you, sir! The one that I got came with a little "fingernail tool" That can be used to push the ring down below the teeth. You can do the same thing with something like the handle Of a spoon, or a chopstick. After you get it under your first couple of teeth, press the ring down next to (but NOT on) each tooth to get it to snap in.
Thanks for the video, it really helped, done it twice now ;) by the way, there are a little L and R on the inside of the cups if you look closely, so you can always tell which is L and which is R
Interesting points - about the L & R identification and also those plastic lugs to wedge under. I've done it myself, but didn't notice these. By the way, what about the cushion on top (under the handle)? That has started to wear too.
