Le 17 novembre dernier, le chanteur français Orelsan a diffusé son nouveau titre « L’odeur de l’essence » dans lequel il utilise le terme « mongol » de manière extrêmement offensive pour les Mongol.es et personnes originaires de cette culture. En écoutant cette chanson, l’on y entend les vers suivants :
À partir de 2’57 :
« On prend des mongols, leur donne des armes / Appelle ça « justice », s’étonne des drames »
À partir de 3’11 :
« Depuis qu’les mongols sont dev’nus des experts / Entourés d’mongols, l’Empire mongol / On fait les mongols pour plaire aux mongols ».
Comme vous le savez, le terme « mongol » définit l’identité culturelle et nationale de tout un peuple. Ce nom qui devrait être neutre comme les adjectifs « français », « anglais », « juif », « inuit » et bien d’autres, est malheureusement encore et toujours en usage en français, connoté d’« idiot ». Dérivé de l’appellation raciste de la trisomie 21, cette connotation est apparue au XVIIIe siècle. Si le sens de la chanson renvoie bien ici à une personne idiote, et ne renvoi pas aux gens de nationalité ou d’origine mongole (de Mongolie) son usage reste raciste et discriminatoire.
Nous considérons que l’utilisation du terme « mongol » de cette manière est non seulement insultante, mais porte aussi atteinte à l’identité mongole et banalise le non-respect envers la dignité humaine. Cette pensée raciste et discriminatoire des derniers siècles ne doit pas être cristallisée dans la société actuelle. À l’heure du global village, il est extrêmement dangereux de contribuer ainsi à la récession de la mentalité francophone vis-à-vis du respect envers la dignité humaine et la diversité culturelle. D’ailleurs la langue anglaise a déjà aboli cette connotation offensive du dictionnaire d’Oxford. Nous poursuivons actuellement notre effort en vue d’abolir ce sens du terme « mongol » dans la langue française.
Dans son préambule, La Déclaration universelle des droits de l’homme a reconnu la dignité humaine comme suit : « Considérant que la reconnaissance de la dignité inhérente à tous les membres de la famille humaine et de leurs droits égaux et inaliénables constitue le fondement de la liberté, de la justice et de la paix dans le monde. »
En tant que pays des droits de l’Homme, la France a une responsabilité digne de diffuser la pensée de la paix dans l’esprit des êtres humains. Dans ce sens, le monde francophone devrait être éduqué au respect à la diversité culturelle, reconnu officiellement par la Convention sur la protection et la promotion de la diversité des expressions culturelles, adopté en 2005 à Paris. Cette même convention rappelle « que la diversité culturelle, qui s’épanouit dans un cadre de démocratie, de tolérance, de justice sociale et de respect mutuel entre les peuples et les cultures, est indispensable à la paix et à la sécurité aux plans local, national et international ».
Cependant, de par son contenu incitant à la haine et banalisant des insultes discriminatoires envers l’identité d’un peuple, l’acte du chanteur très populaire Orelsan représente un danger au vivre ensemble, indispensable à la cohésion sociale de la société cosmopolite. Appelé déjà en 2009 comme « porte parole de la haine, du meurtre, et de la misogynie », ce chanteur a un passé récidiviste de violence verbale irrespectueuse envers autrui.
Pour cette raison, nous vous demandons d’agir et de rejoindre notre appel au boycott de ce chanteur en vue d’abolir la connotation extrêmement offensive du terme « mongol » en langue française en :
- Condamnant officiellement cette chanson ;
- Faisant pression sur les médias pour ne plus diffuser cette chanson ;
- Demandant à Orelsan de s’excuser publiquement auprès des Mongoles et Mongols et toute personne originaire de cette culture ainsi que de retirer la partie concernée dans cette chanson ;
- Faisant pression sur les salles et festivals pour déprogrammer ce chanteur et/ou annuler ses concerts tant qu’il ne se sera pas excusé publiquement et qu’il ne retirera pas la partie insultante de sa chanson.
Merci infiniment à vous toutes et tous de participer à promouvoir le respect envers les droits fondamentaux humains, dignité humaine et la diversité culturelle.

This translation is truely incredible because, even if the way that french lyrics are playing with word meanings can't be translated to english, the translater found a way to recreate it in another way : for example, "parents buy alcohol, it's children who pay the price" is translated from "les parents picolent (parents drink), c'est les enfants qui trinquent (it's children who pay the price)" and "trinquent" means pay the price, but its first meaning is "to toast" (raise a glass)

Actually, I think the translator did a mistake at "Generation Z because the previous one".
The original line is "Génération Z parce que la dernière" and the expression "le/la dernier/ère" in french has 2 meaning: either it means "the latter/the previous one" but in this context, since Orelsan talks about rebooting everything, I think it in fact means " the last one"
