    I have the same flashlight. Mine got corrosion damage from bad batteries. I took it to the Maglite warranty office at Maglite headquarters in Ontario CA. They said we need a week to fix it. I filled out a form, then was asked to wait in the lobby. They gave me a brand new black ml300l. Guess what flashlight brand Im getting in the future? Maglite my friends.

    I just purchased one for a unarmed security position I am currently working in which we are not allowed to carry anything for self defense so I purchased this flashlight/baton and still be in compliance with policy.

    I just got one of these for work. I used to have an older 6 cell incandescent, but that's overkill for a duty belt. I had the idea to put rechargeable D cells in it. I found some on Amazon that charge through a micro USB, so lets see how it works... I know they make rechargeable from the factory but I like the iconic look better. Also I have the option to switch out the batteries for other rechargeables or for some disposables.

      @@MrNathansilvia I definitely think rechargeable batteries are the way to go. I had alkalines go bad and swell to the point where I couldn't even unscrew the end cap due to the pressure. Had to toss the entire flashlight. Shame because it was a great flashlight.

    Nice review. It sounds like the threads of your tail cap could use some Nyogel grease (or Vaseline.)

      I just ordered the 4D NASAR version and can't wait for it to get here. I cant find a review on the 4D but the only difference would be battery life. Guess I'll have to make a video reviewing it. Will have to start a new channel though.. I don't think youtube would appreciate my name ;)

    Why do people use automatic exposure on cameras when doing reviews like this? High, Low and Eco all look the same, obviously because the camera is adjusting exposure to suit available light. Setting camera exposure manually to give good exposure for High, then locking it off, and then showing the other modes woudl give viewers a true idea of difference between the modes.

    Can you remove the head on the 3rd generation maglites like you could on the older models?

      Appearently not so easy but it is doable with an wise. The new gen habe rackets on the olastic ring for focus and the head is fixed with steel snap rings. Not for screw on or off. The switch is now high temp fibre glass but can be taken off with an T8. I dont like the new ones so I oedered 3 new Led ones and 4 xenon old style 4 D ones. The older ones can be disassembled easy except the swicht which is easier to take out on the new ones but can be taken out on all of these. Otherwise the head is not supposed to come off on these 3rd gen ones and the LED bulb sitsin an press fit heat sink which can only be pounded out with an socket an great force. Besides that the head no is not threaded on but held in place entirely by snap rings and slides on an plastik ring on gears from plastic for focussing.

    I can barely tell the differenced between Low Mode and Eco Mode.
    The best Function Setting for me, is the one with High Power, Low Power and Strobe.
    That's all I really need.

    Maglite makes rechargeable. But I prefer the older style MagLites an use them all with Eneloop AA NiMH batteries in Eneloop D cell to AA adapters. That makes the light very light and gives me a runtime of about 16 hours with the 168 lumen LED models.

    Can the ML300L use extension kits to turn it into a 4D or 5D?

    • @mattscorner1232
      @mattscorner1232  5 років тому

      I'm not sure. Its slightly thinner them the older incandescent models. I guess it would depend on how the kit attached.

    • @Tom-dw2fg
      @Tom-dw2fg 5 років тому

      @@mattscorner1232 Based on that, yeah I guess the answer would be no. An extension kit screws on the end and adds room for extra 1D or 2D cells. I ended up dropping some cash on this flashlight anyway because 16H battery life is hard to beat. So far it's been great. It's very bright and very hardy. Just what I need. Thanks for the information in your video.

    Momentary does not allow you to flash Morse Code, the old generation switch does signaling the best. Also It has no memory, as in full power will be with the first button press even if another selection was used last.

    • @mattscorner1232

      Jee Zed Yes, 3 D cell batteries. With the LED bulb, they last quite a while. You're right, it would be nice if they came out with one that had a rechargable battery; but for now I suppose you could use rechargable D batteries as a substitute for the regular ones.

      I like the weight, saved my rotty pup from two a-hole dogs that decided to attack. So when looking for a replacement of my incandescent I purchased this exact light.
      However, Maglite recently released a 1000 lumen rechargable unit, but expect to pay over three times the amount of the 300l.

      @@adrianotero7963 As far as I know there is only an single model of adapters (D size adapter in which goes 1 AA battery) from the Eneloop (Panasonic) brand. 1 AA battery goes into the Eneloop D size adapter. That system I implemented now for all my lighting and it works perfectly and saves you a ton of money.
