- Heathrow airport Terminal 5 uses futuristic and unique PRT pods to shuttle passengers from a business car park to the terminal. This video shows the sometimes complex movement of these pod cars all running autonomously.
These pods aren't just cool but they're really cute too 😍😍
❤❤❤
Yaas
These are so cool I want one that goes from my bedroom to the bathroom
😂
😂😂
😂 😂 😂 I'm lazy and I really need it for the same
Just install a toilet in your bed you miserable
:)
I crossed the Atlantic, landed at Heathrow, and headed straight for the pods! One of London's finest attractions (and free!). My friends think I'm weird ;-)
wl03bu sadly a round trip Heathrow - Paddington ticket on the regular train costs 49 pounds... It shocked me tbh...
I. Cr
No, not weird. Just interested in the world around you. Cheers.
Don't take the Heathrow Express - they're money grabbers. London Underground and Heathrow Connect are much cheaper.

These look really cool and cute!
I never knew there was a system so futuristic here in England.

I saw these when I passed through Terminal 5 a few years ago. It kinda took me by surprise when I looked up and saw the first one. Very futuristic.
I imagine Mr Bean invading the track with his Mini and causing chaos all over the airport
Yeah 😂😂😂😂😂
No chance, Bond....James Bond is protecting it!
@@stbu9709 Trust me I'm Doctor Who ;)
Remember coming into Heathrow airport, back in 2012. Impressive airport. Great video.
Cool! Such a system should be extended for a whole city, where such cabin just threading into major lines.
Nah it would be unreliable. The point of trains is for high capacity
Fantastic. I want my own personal pod for getting around !
Me too! I'm sure these will replace cars in the future
I have seen it few days back when I was near the airport,it's so cute
How so
They just need painting red with black spots and maybe to feelers on the front lol
Thanks for upload. Amazing experience
Beautifully captured. Very informative and interesting to know. Liked
Thank you very much!
definitely, futuristic. very cool

Why am I thinking about bumper cars?
Every major city needs something like this and not just at the airport but, like, everywhere
Armand Alegg
I was waiting for them to bump into each other lol.
But why use something like this when a railway/tramway/subway/elevated is many times more efficient and does the same thing?
@@RockyRailroadProductions_B0SS
I can think of at least 2 reasons.
1) These would be a lot more convenient than most public transit systems. If the system is set up properly, your ride is waiting for you instead of you standing around waiting for
your ride.
2) Less confusion for the passenger because the pod could take you directly to your destination, much like a taxi, instead of having to change trains, buses or trams mid trip.
There are more reasons, but these are the first 2 to pop into my head.
Its just like taxi you know but no traffic since you have your own road
Keith Craig taking you directly to your destination would mean track everywhere. Dedicated bus lanes could do much of what these could do with a small fraction of the cost
Great, the speeded up footage at 1:49 is a bit like being on a wooden roller coaster.
I love these pods. Greetings from Canada.
One step closer to POD taco delivery. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
Great video - very nicely done - !!
I think this is a step I;the right direction to keep traffic off the roads & I would like to give this a go.
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
lax needs those, no air train no notching , super futuristic
It would be incredible if they used PRT to serve all the terminals of LAX and connect to the light rail. This would have been perfect for a PRT system.

LAX is currently building a more traditional people mover train that will connect to a new branch of the Metro light rail (and parking).
Yeah we need it in Lax. too much of traffic from pampa circle to bus stand
Love the transit vids on this channel - one suggestion would be to have a "2x speed" or "5x speed" caption for the sped-up portions to avoid confusion.
Wow! I wish I could see this in person.
Auckland airport needs this to get to Tain station
woow..many years here and didnt know those existed!!!
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
Very cool. Congratulations Heathrow Airport Administration ...
those fences spoil the cuteness of the pod... tried it AWESOME!!
This is so crazy. Only for this Event i would like travel to the airport.
I think i drive the whole Day along.
Very nice.
Amazing! Probably the way that our cars will be in a next future.
No, they won´t.
Those things look so cute! XD
interesting video!!!
Always awesome as ever.
It's fantastic!!. ❤️
Wow, the future is already here 😍😍😍👏
Plot twist they are tide pods
I infer advances in room-temperature super-conductivity will eliminate electric circuit resistance and eventuate in ... wait for it ... unlimited use without re-charging and zero heat loss. Talk about futuristic. They aren't there yet ... but wow.
Forgot ..., super-conductivity may already be in use in space where there is ample super-cold environment.
James Waters Shame superconductivity doesn't equate to infinite electrical capacity. Leave the inferences to those who understand the science, and can engineer the technology. Roll on more cool pods though.
Very cute! ^__^
Kawaii! :3
I think I am going to have to do this when I have some free time, I will actually travel all the way from Central London, just to take free rides on these.
How cool is that! *cheer*
so cool :)
Safest way to move...and also noiseless..😀👍👍👍👍👍
so cool
Yep
Hi
Man,, you got me. At about 1:48. I thought that pod was going that fast for real,,. Lol
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
the pods are AMAZING
TechHeadHD2 I think they are too! I only wish there would be a system with 10 or more stations with high ridership to really get a feel for what PRT is supposed to be! This is nice at Heathrow, but it’s only a glimpse of the true potential of this technology!
+Luke Starkenburg It would be impressive if most of England's airport adopted this whole PRT thing,I was lucky enough earlier this yeah to ride of the pods. just a little word of wisdom (or..not..who knows) these are now £5 per person from the Thistle Hotel near station B.
year*
agh..phone keyboards annoy me sometimes..
TechHeadHD2 the PODS are no longer free, even if you park in the Business Car Park? Or is it still free for those who park and now £5 for those who don’t park? When I shot this video, I walked to a close by pub for a pint and food. When I’m in London next, I should take another ride and check this out!
+Luke Starkenburg i believe (as far as I know) they are free fro. some parts (car parks etc) but from the hotel you pay. i guess its for the pods upkeep? But thats all I know as I only got to ride a pod once when in London due to loads of stuff in the same day. I got some good photos though!
Thank you so much. I’ve seen those things so many times and always wondered what it’s like to ride them and what the view was from inside. Now I know. Do you need a ticket from the parking lot to ride them or can you just go for the ride?
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked the video! There are some small signs that say that the pods are for customers who park in the business parking lot, but I've ridden many times and so has many others I've seen. No-one checks to see if you actually parked. Its free to use.
SO AMAZING ! IT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE TO HAVE THIS KIND OF COMPACT HEATHROW PODS TO GO CITY CENTER AND AVOID TOO MUCH TRAFFIC AND POLLUTION.
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
I have an even better idea: what if we make the pods long😮 and put them on rails underground🤯
@@confusedtoad8757London should really think about doing something like this
This is so cool! 👍👍👍
So what happens if one of the pods suddenly dies half way or breaks down or something like that? Or do they have a way of getting you out? I always wondered about these in emergencies. They must have a way of getting you back to the parking lot.
chopper with a magnet dangling down
What do you do in a car on the freeway? You get out and try not to get runned over. Difference is, with a PRT, the command centre immediately knows when something has gone wrong and can dispatch people to help you. Some PRT systems are designed for another car to push or pull the malfunctioning car to the nearest station.
Didn't you know? You're stuck in it forever!
really cool
Thx 4 upl
very good
In the States we've had this since the 70s (at West Virginia Univ). Kinda cool!
Time saving invention wow..its amazing
Nice video
This is a cute ride!
Very Cute Pod
very cool!! ;)

भाऊ कन्सेप्ट खुप छान आहे मला आवडली आम्ही पण प्रयत्न करू पाहायला यायला...
When it speeds up I thought that's so fast but when I saw the cars and the aeroplane I just realized it's just a timelapse.
I try to keep my videos shorter so I speed up the ride. I think videos that are under 10 minutes long get more views.
@@Luke_Starkenburg yeah..more than 10mins videos usually recommended by youtube
I so wish Ultra had been more successful with their system. So many places I can think of where it would work great. It is very unfortunate they put up those big ugly fences along the side of the guideway at Heathrow. Why did they do that?
Have you ever been to Morgantown, Luke? I'm curious what you think of the PRT there.
I think self driving cars killed (or will kill) PRT systems. I really want to go to Morgantown to check out their older PRT system. I haven't been there yet. You might be closer actually. ;-)
I love going there - I think I've been there 5 or 6 times! If you contact them in advance they'll give you a behind-the-scenes tour of the maintenance facility. I've done that several times! They even put us in a car and "inserted" it manually into the system and drove it from station to station that way as a private shuttle. :)
Wow, I should try that!! Thats so cool!
Love the Morgantown PRT. Has been doing it since 1972
This the neatest think I have seen Cute dose it drive it self 🤪💓💖
I liked the Qantas at the end......✈👍
These are awesome
Morgantown WV USA (the town I live in) has had the PRT system since the 70’s. It’s almost identical to this but it goes around the whole town. We are known for the system we have but no one talks about it. Feel free to look it up.
And no, I’m not claiming China stole from us. But we did have the system before Shanghai had skyscrapers :)
I would love to visit Morgantown to ride this system! It looks fascinating!!
Luke Starkenburg it’s amazing and it’s a little bit faster than the one in the video. I live five minutes away and I get to ride for free whenever I want. It’s free to ride for everyone on Saturday and Sunday as well as the entire months of June and July. It goes around the entire town and my dad and ride it for fun. It’s similar to the one in the video but is a little older. It went under renovation about two years ago. Please do a video on it.
Wow fantastic
The video is really good recorded
attention! speed recording 1:39-2:30
if you see clearly that a bit of video editing . 1:39 the flight is also flying fast . if you go further , then the drone seen at the bottom of screen - look at the movement of car . its video editing
no offense but ever consider having a bit of humor sense?
Its to show you the system without taking 8 years. Get a grip Norbert.
Presses OK
Is it Ultra Pods charged by battery?
Yes, these are powered by battery and they charge when they wait for passengers.
which company has build these pod cars?
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
Impressive shots! How come if snow clusters on the pod track during the winter. Just being curious...
They have a snowplow they use during heavy snowfall. I'm not sure if it is manned or unmanned.
They use an industrial single seat maned snow sweeper that's used elsewhere to keep pathways clear, around the main terminals foot paths but in the past few years they have only deployed it ever so often to keep the track looking clean as its been a while where snow has really tested the design
Thanks for the information. I didn't know this before.
amazing
Amazing
It was beautiful and elegent too good
Interesting idea
it's amazing!

These are soooo cute .. wish i could ride them one day
Good job
what a amazing yaar i love it💕👍
A verry amzing...
Nice
So cute 😍😍
Glad to see this
I haven't seen them before they look great. can you take us inside?
Those look like fun
Looks like an Amusement park lol
I can't stop laughing at these💕💕😂😂 These are so cute! I love these airport pods! Now I'm wondering if these are electric hybrid pods or something. I'm real curious about these.
The PRT pods at Heathrow Airport are battery electric. Not hybrid. They are fun to watch and ride. I only wish the system would be expanded to many more stations! I'd love to see a system with 20 stations and high ridership to really test the usefulness of PRT as a concept. I have faith PRT can deliver!
@@Luke_Starkenburg Where I think they've missed a trick here is in articulating three or four of these PRT cars, possibly a taller version that would allow standing, and being able to run "buses" and 2-car "minibuses" using the same guideway and charging infrastructure (although the nose-in station parking would need an additional "bus platform"). All the hotels along the north side of Heathrow could be served by these in addition to regular PRT cars. Airside, you can tie all the terminals and gates together with PRT buses, with private cars available from the business class lounge direct to the gate (possibly just scan the boarding pass and be taken to the right gate). So many possibilities.
They look like the Dandelion car from Pushing Daisies.
Está muy bonito el trailersito :3
Big fan of these things, I'm disabled, not able to drive due to one of my illnesses. I rely on others driving me around or using existing public transport which I don't like when it's crowded, these would be perfect for me, in fact, forget them as public transport, I want one for myself!!
Your all vdos are simply great, but it would be best if you could show how people get down on the stations and a small info about technology
I have 5 other videos on UA-cam about the London Heathrow PRT which does show a lot more detail about the system. Those videos were not as popular as this one.
Very nice looking
i hope all airports start to use this
$4million per mile constructing the roadbed.
I hope so. I doubt the airport in my city would implement this tho.
Depends on how big it is, and how much it will cost.
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
Pretty cool ☺☺
Its next level 👌
ua-cam.com/video/iaSaWfw07Sw/v-deo.html
cool
If a person was to get on the "track" would the pod just run them over?
I think they have lasers which detect objects in a certain path, although I could be totally wrong.
Anything that eases traffic congestion seems like a good idea
Simple solution...stop putting more cars on the road.
If London has this pod system as an alternative to tube system, that would be great.
Citizen Earth probably would even be on time as well
CraftHunterGaming
Maybe not but if you increase the size of the pods and increase the amount on the track at the same time then maybe it could be done.
You'll end up with the exact tube system we have today, but automated (Which is arguably better, but don't let the RMT hear you say that)
Cheesoos Kryst tubes are “on time”. They run every three minutes or so. Our tube network is fantastic especially as parts of it are the oldest in the world. Not until you use the subway in New York you realise just how superior ours is.
It wouldn’t meet the capacity of what the trains do. If they automated the tube it would run on time and carry a lot more riders.
This so cool we also need this
Wow, so cool
Looks fun to me!
So cute
These are adorable
No expanding the system to more areas around the heathrow airport??
Sadly they have not expanded yet. Perhaps in the future.
Yeah in the future!!!!
