The UK has 206 Michelin star restaurants. The US has 223. Take in population size.

Ah? Because all the Brits eat in Michelin starred restaurants everyday?
When my mother first came to visit me in London (that was in the late '70s), when she left a few days later, she remarked that, despite its reputation for terrible food (bland preparations and overcooked meat), she had eaten rather well.
I had taken her to French, Italian, Chinese, Indian, ... restaurants! :o)
At that time, there was ONE renowned restaurant that I've forgotten the name of, that served English food. I never did go there ... because it was the most expensive restaurant in London! Probably one of those Michelin star restaurants that you mention?

Not sure if you miss the point on purpose...or...your feeling a little Inferior for your city?......try looking at Michelin stars awarded to such a diversity of cuisines from around the world infused by the spice pallets of the world combined with British ingredients, besides these facts, she never once mentioned Michelin stars she was talking about getting off the well trodden tourist path and into the regions of London often missed but should be experienced by visitors together with some fabulous (never appearing on the Michelin radar) cuisines inspired by ingredients available to the world but fused together and enjoyed by anyone prepared to take the adventure. Just ask any visitor to Camden Market and has a a Utube channel for example...there is so many to choose from, just try a find one that wasn't stunned and amazed by the food sensations they discovered.

@@micade2518 Remarkable skillset! to claim a lack of fortitude to read, while (at the same time) providing a critique of both grammar and syntax. Either your claim is false and disengenuse or you should submit to a test for cognitive dissonance . Come to London, try the food, sample the culture and perhaps you may wish to recommend a few eateries to the traveling public? May I suggest when making comments to future posts it would help others to provide insight with some epistemic value.

If Americans are worried about the food here in the UK they could always bring a five gallon container of corn syrup with them & liberally dose everything in it - it will make them feel right at home. They could also try to bring in some artificial growth hormones & some of the vast array of chemicals that go into food in the US - but you might get into trouble with HM Customs & Excise - they are prohibited here in the UK because of, you know, being carcinogenic & stuff.
Keep up the good work. Love & Kisses from the UK.

Borough Market on the southern end of London Bridge is also worth a look for food to eat on your hand, just watch out for the prices there, it can get packed out with tourists too?

Ive travelled all around the world. The food in the uk is some of the best in the world. Its only really the usa that has this bad food myth coming from rationing during ww2. Our most popular food is curry, ive eaten curry almost every other day my whole life, Everywhere in the uk has a chineese, kebab shop, indian, and chippy on every corner. The uk was fighting the axis powers alone for over a year in 1939, income tax was at 99%, chocolate and other sweet factories were converted to factories for airplanes, alcohol, spices and animals were sold to the usa to buy raw materials and ammo etc so the people were heavily heavily rationed, they had nothing and a lot of poverty foods like beans on toast. bangers n mash, came out of this. But this doesnt represent food in the uk at all, uk is famous for its curries usa has nothing like our curry culture, apple pie is british, 'american' chrismas and thanksgiving you guys literally eat british sunday dinners. If you didnt know in japan the uk has the opposite view and they think we have amazing food due to a show and book series in the 80s/90s where japanese chefs toured the uk trying traditional foods and learning techniques. The idea that people in the uk are just going around eating bad food is so hilarious that its almost racist. The british empire was using various herbs and spices before the usa even existed. In ireland theres curry recipies dating back to the 1500's.

Well said. I'm fed up of this crap about British food. Also, most of these reactors seem to be obsessed with black pudding, jellied eels, steak and kidney pies etc. These foods were traditionally for the poorest people. Some, like black pudding are still enjoyed today but is an acquired taste for foreigners. There are restaurants catering for every country in Africa and Asia as well as South and Central America. America on the other hand have adapted some European food such as pizza and some Chinese dishes and turned them into inedible s#*t.

Im going to make an educated guess that we probably have the best Indian food in the world here after India of course and much of that was tweaked for the UK market. Its the whole meat and potato thing I think like you say from the ration times. Theres a big and important difference between bad food and food that you dont like. Eels in jelly I'd never eat it but its probably 10x better than anything laced with additives. London street food in particular is absolutely insane all be it expensive but probably not bad coming from the US. As if a country of 70 million would only have bad food in 2024, come on guys dont be ignorant.

Bad food myth dates from US soldiers in Britain during WW2. There was severe food rationing and so food was really bad due to lack of sugar, meat, butter, eggs etc, basically everything except vegetables. Even cookbooks and pamphlets specially produced had to devote a lot of space to how to make things taste palatable. Anyone fancy vegetable and oatmeal goulash, or how about whale meat

Jess is great and gives good advice. London is 607 sq miles, made up of multiple boroughs (districts) with their own personality and history. They all have things to do and see over and above pubs (c1000+) and restaurants.
The food is wide ranging from basic takeout, through street food up-to diverse ethnic and up to Michelin star restaurants. The food quality is generally better than the USA because it's not as adulterated with additives, excessive sugar and preservatives. If visiting ask the local Londoners and we'll be happy to recommend. Often good regular restaurants are better away from the tourist hotspots - and you can get good food in pubs. Remember, at a mid and higher end the emphasis is on quality not quantity.
Also if you're self-catering, buying fresh produce in a supermarket grocery store is cheaper and better value/quality than ready meals or takeout and junk food.

Not a Londoner, not English, not Brit, but I must say that Britain gets a bit too much of a bad rep for their food. Some are a bit bland, but there is so much delicious dishes, not even thinking of the Indian ones, I actually don't really like the British take on Indian food. I'd much more like a full Monty, a Sheapard's pie, or a Sunday Roast

I used to love vusiting The Natural History Museum, and The Science Museum (they're next door to each other and easily accessible from each to the other).
Being older (I'm nearly 71 now - I'll be 71 in early August '24) my expectations and requirements when visiting our Capital city..,are most definitely _not_ the same as that American woman.
In fact practically everything she advised, re places to or _not_ to visit are _nothing_ like my own preferences.
And, as far as I can see, everyone who visits London (for example) will sll also have their own individual expectations, and planned itinerary... Yes, try to plan your visits outside of the school holidays here - unless you are bringing school age children who might enjoy the city where British children might be also enjoying their visits to the city too...
Yes, research prices in and outside the city, by all means ave on hotel / hostel fees etc outside the city, but then dont forget to _add_in_ the _costs of fares_ _to and from_ the _city to your outside the city accommodations_ ...
Makes sense?! Touristy yes, but if you are vusiting a place where you dont live _YOU_ are a Tourist!! It's just as crowded by Londonerd who live here, or who commute in / out to and from work each day, as the tourists who queue incessantly to gain entrance to attractions, paying "a small fortune" for the privilege just as everyone else does. The shopkeepers / on-street stall sellers dont differentiate between Tourists and Locals when they charge the Earth for their goods... We all have to splash the cash / credit / debit cards and hopefully remember to check we've enough
£££'s / $$$' in our bank accounts to cover our trip and all of the expenses!!
No secret handshakes or a "as its you, you can have ut for half the price, guv'nor!!" If anyone's getting 'it' for half price, you can bet the price went UP🔼 _before_ they saw you coming to buy - whoever you are / wherever you're from!!
Just be sensible with your cash. Be aware of pickpockets / phone thieves, overcharging at exchanges - transfer your money at your bank, rather than at the ATM's which may cost more than you bargained for... Make sure you get the right sort of App on your phones etc to help you negotiate the Underground / the Tube, etc, and to show you where it may be quicker and / or easier to walk or get a bus instead of travelling down various escalators, through various0 turnstiles, tunnels and catching various Tube trains, if a short 'hop-on / hop-off' _bus_ or a few minutes _walking_ would be easier, quicker, safer, and / or less likely to get lost, etc?!
All this advice from someone who only travels to London these days via pre-booked Hospital Transport to and from 'Guys'...plus, I' ve watched that American lady living in London before and learned she has some excellent advice - though, mostly I would say for younger folks like herself, who like to eat out, and go pubbing or to see West End Shows, Plays etc... i don't, so her advice isnt aimed at me, per se, so if your price range and / or entertainment requirements match more closely to hers, she's for you!! Just bear in mind that she feels she can speak for Londoners because she lives in the area...but she is an American🇺🇲 at heart, and she still thinks like one...whilst telling you to 'stop being a sheep' and do your own thing, in your own way, whilst following _her_ guides... ?! Riiiiiight...🤔!! 😏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️🇬🇧🙂🖖

I wouldn't live in London if you paid me a million pounds. Nothing against any Londoners reading this.
It's because I'm 47, I was born and have grown up virtually all my life in the English countryside in one tiny village or another. Growing up the nearest supermarket was a nine mile drive one way. In winter when it snowed the villages would get cut off and I couldn't go to school for days because the school bus couldn't get through the narrow country roads. The comprehensive school I went to was about 7 miles away in another larger village because the village I lived in was only big enough to have a small combined junior and infant school.
I just couldn't live anywhere else now. I'm addicted to the peace and quiet of the countryside. Of being able to go on walks down by the river and feed the ducks or walk to the next village and stop part way to feed the horses in one of the fields a carrot or I can just sit in the back garden and listen to the birds chirping in the trees.
I don't like crowds of people, I don't like a lot of noise and I don't like driving in heavy traffic. I don't need wine bars, nightclubs, designer clothes shops, fancy restaurants etc as the most I've had immediate access to for most of my life is a pub, a public phone box and a post box.
I won't say anything about crime because living in the countryside almost all my life, my view will be skewed. All I can say is, where I've lived most of my life, "What crime?". The villages I've lived in have been so small that we didn't have a local bobby at all. Growing up the nearest police station was over ten miles away.

    Pizza, Taco, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers.
I once saw a video where a family were gathered together for Thanks Giving Dinner and on a table of Twelve, there were only two knives on the table! How you can eat the equivalent of a Sunday Roast without a Knife and Fork and use them properly, is beyond me!

Mistake Number 1: Listening to Americans on UA-cam who really haven't a clue what they are talking about.
Example: Big Ben is the bell that is inside the Elizabeth tower it is not the Tower. I rest my case! 🙄

Fancy expecting our capital city to be English! Far too much immigration other recent years and in lots of areas you will think your in another country. Go to London and don’t expect it to be English, what an indictment on our country. Very very sad.

I'm English and live in London, The diversity is what makes it such an amazing place to live. What I find funny about your xenophobic comment is that you - presumably a native English speaker - struggle to speak the language. 'You will think YOU'RE in another country' is what you meant to say. 'You're' being a truncation of 'you are'. 'Your' makes no sense in the context of your sentence. Also 'Far too much immigration other recent years' makes no sense. So yeah...maybe sit the fuck down for this one, hey.

London is that unsafe, you can’t get your phone out of your pocket.
Without some snatching it out of your hand!

Absolute bs, you've only got to look at the hundreds of tourists wandering around recording with their phone cameras.

I mean yeah but try that in Rio, Paris, Barcelona or New York in fact and city or town anywhere on earth especially where tourists loiter and probably similar outcome.

It is soooooo unsafe that after 70 years in London including 41 years on the edge of South East London and Kent in this same house that I moved to from Inner London in 1983,that I do NOT have a lock on my back door!

Nonsense.I have had 70 years here and by using my instincts ,wits and being streetwise,I have had barely a scratch in 16,500 ( approximately) social outings ,not including any of the 12 years at school here.

You're not actually a Londoner, are you? If you were, you'd know that's a load of crap. Yet you reckon you know what real Londoners are about? You're a fool.

I used to live in London, and it’s a great city with great food available. But tourists tend to just stick to the tourist areas and eat the rubbish food from places specifically catering to tourists. The last few times I’ve eaten out have been at an Indian restaurant, a couple of Vietnamese places and a Brazilian place. Not a bangers and mash or fish and chips in sight.
