"The crash of Intel's stock is the only sound" What an obscure video. Didn't Weird Al Parody that song too? Loved this type of video. I would have loved it 100x more if you also had a Pippin and had a related video showing you actually getting your hands on it and how the actual device is to use, along with its history
Interesting new approach! Would love to see more retrospectives on failed or obsolete platforms. OS/2? WebTV? Maybe something more like the future of tech that never was?
@@aibarra11 which did better than pipin anyway which is why it isn’t talked about or mentioned these days. Many people rather talk about a sega genesis instead.
I still kinda wish Apple worked on a gaming platform for AAA games. IMO The experience they offer is far superior to other platforms simply because of the integration. I have an Xbox, but can’t wait to get rid of it because Microsoft doesn’t have a plan they just produce software and hardware products and kill them if they don’t catch-up immediately, and they also keep changing up the names of their products almost every other day.
Really like this type of video. If at all possible for future videos and similarly weird products/services, a hands-on would be great! I understand that might not be easy for a lot of things, but would love to see it if possible.
Pippin seems like a forgotten, but important failed predecessor to the AppleTV. In regards to Pippin not having a proper OS, I think it was still a time in console history and some home PCs that many did not not having full fledged OS baked into the hardware and most of the software/chips was loaded from external disks/cartridges. Even though Apple gets a lot of flack for a failed device, in retrospect it was not uncommon to have many failed hardware devices from large tech companies in the 90s. It was a decade of hardware experimentation.
I am the only person I know who doesn't love Apple and doesn't hate it. Everyone I meet has strong feelings one way or the other. Was impressed by their computers in the 90's but they were so expensive it didn't matter. Their phones and media players always seemed too proprietary and demanding to be taken seriously as a good consumer product. So I just avoided them. Their cloud service is great assuming you aren't female or don't like uploading nudes on them.
When you have nothing to talk about, talk about Apple products. Buy the way, fun fact, Before the Pippin, Apple wanted to buy Atari Games Ltd, they should have and they should do right now, it's a good time as any for Apple to bring back a classic with their version of Apple Arcade.
@@dertythegrower omg so angry hahahaha. No one integrates hardware and software like apple does , and they do a great job at both of them . Hating on of the biggest companies in technology doesn’t make you cool or smart
Man, you seem very bitter. Sure, Apple has a lot of mainstream fans, that buy Apple stuff regardless of their tech inside, but come on. They are all logo buyers? There is no benefit in everything from the Watch to the MacPro working together? I mean most of the FCPX Users I know started because Adobe was unable to support QuickSync for Years, Apple did. Also, Video in the iPhone as well as the speed of the A14 is just unmatched. I also applaud Apple for serving iPhones at least 5 Years of updates. That is unheard of in the Android-World, although it has gotten so much better, lately. Also the M1vs i7 thing Intel touted was more a MacOS vs. Windows10 benchmark. Also Port Royal is a RTX Bench... it is not accelerated on the iGPU of any Intel or Apple Chip... and it is Windows only, since it uses DXR and DirectX is something Microsoft holds its hand over. Topaz is specifically optimized for Intel in Windows, Handbreak is very optimized for multi threading, the Adobe Stuff is either on beta software, not native or heavily optimized for quicksync. So yes, Intel made a point in showing, that Apple lags a little in software optimization, conveniently not mentioning that the Apple ARM Desktop ecosystem is not even one year old. If you want to game or use highly multithreaded workloads... do not get a M1 Mac.... gosh if you want windows do not get one. But honestly, App,es Performance, especially in single thread is impressive. No way around it.
Scottie Pippin (The basketball player) was what always came to mind when I heard about the Pippin. I remember wanting one, just for the design.

Fun fact: Pipin was the first console with a built-in modem
Oh cool, I always thought it was the Sega Dreamcast. Which came out a year or 2 after. Guess that's where Sega got the idea

Nice informative video; can you cover the Newton?
@engadget Where did you get those glasses? They are beautiful....

It's so weird how Apple never could get gaming right. Even today, they're so far behind everyone else it's not even funny.
How about the story of eWorld? I beta tested that and heard that it wound up as the foundation of AOL.
If that song were parodied by Apple these days , Tiffany's music company would demonetize them for sure.
As I’m so old and lived through that period, the 3DO is more interesting. Concept is good though. Like reading an old copy of Edge.
Apple was a desperate company at one point too. All companies have issues. I learned a lot of things from this video. For that I thank you. (:
Great video. I can't believe I've never seen 'I Think We're a Clone Now' before 😄
Imagine if Apple releases another game console today? That'll be interesting.
Yes the console is one thing, but the catalogue of games is a whole different challenge.

I watched the whole video man. Good stuff and look forward to more
You should talk about Copland! It is one of the weirdest development stories ever and could be a useful lesson for one or two managers out there.
Apple. I want no part of them.
Imma make a really original joke now : Apple Pimpin'...
Pippin ain't easy
😄
You should do this kind of video for every game console in history
I don’t think eWorld ripped off AOL, but the reverse; AOL was based on eWorld technology.
