    Attempted battery upgrade
    Turns out the car does turn on but there is no steering or throttle at all with the larger 2S packs.
    It seems you have to upgrade the ESC to any cheap brushed hobby grade version to do this mod.

    I’m pretty sure the stock board on the non kit version is only rated for 10amps. If you went to a different esc rated for higher amp rating, 25- 40 you would be able to use those higher output batteries. I’ve got the kit version. Put in a 25 amp esc and a 1s 7.4 Lipo and it works good. Now if I could just figure out how to get those add on tracks to work properly on my c14! Here’s a link for the bat and board.

    Same thing. steering cannot work but I can throttle.
    I replace back to the stock battery, steering no longer works. What did I fry?
    I thought ESC only controls the motor and do not affect steering. But in this case, steering is gone.

      @@johnicc907 Hi John, I would not recommend 18650 batteries, because the stock electronics In d12 could not handle voltage and ampere ratings. So if you want to upgrade battery you need to change all electronics esc, reciever and tx. Else the best bet is to get a spare battery. Also I think the battery tray of d12 would not fit two 18650 I guess.

    For feck sake 6 volt basic board............... Yes Basic non hobby grade right which means it can't handle anything more than 6 volts and would be designed to shut down at any other voltage and really personally if you can afford li pos then you can shell out for a basic speedy and steering servo... Rather gripe it didn't like put up a video showing you failed and blame the the basic product for your failure and those who followed you to reinforce both yours and their personal failures............. So hey man up get the the correct components and show the skills you have in their correct light and non negative ways............... I've already gotten another one as a kit and built it with proper hobby grade components, it works fine. That was not the point of this video at all. I was only trying to see if at least the battery was upgradeable in the RTR model. It turns out that it isn't as you correctly acknowledged. Obviously a kit would require hobby grade parts, but its important to know if the RTR is at all upgradeable in it's stock form.

    • @hybrid32494
      @hybrid32494  6 років тому +3

      hey my Caprice Classic Brother, lol, the battery is a NI-CD. Eitherway even if it was an NIMH it owuld not matter. It seems the voltage itself is too high for the factory receiver/esc board. The lipo size is irrelevant, it's about VOLTAGE here. In my RC experience most ESCs can operate to at least a max voltage of 7.4 (2S lipo). Seems this needs a different ESC to run a higher voltage battery.

    • @supastihl89
      @supastihl89 6 років тому +1

      Yea bro what's up. And yes you are correct my guess would be the esc cutout is what you running into with the voltage being too high. Maybe run that battery a little low and try it. It may work. But the cutout will probably be too low and may drain the battery further then you'd want..

      I saw another video where a guy made his own battery out of 5 rechargeable energizers, and it worked. So it must be limited to 6V no matter what you do. Although his speed didn't increase but the truck ran much longer.

      But i have some things to say. First time i turned my car on with the original 6V it did the same thing. Lights on, no power.
      Second and most important: Why didn't you try to lower the voltage using a resistor? I guess you don't have one. I'll try here when i get home.
