Is Tesla Overvalued? ‘Dean Of Valuation’ Aswath Damodaran Weighs In | Trading Nation | CNBC
This video didn’t age well.
It is too years old dude. And Damodaran was on the show a month ago and said tesla is overvalued and he sold at 640$.
Aswald bought at 180 in 2018 and sold at 640, that's a very good trade. Notice how Aswath had a healthy skepticism towards Tesla in 2017, unlike the pathological disdain a lot of these shorts seem to have. If you look at what people like Montana Skeptic retweet, it's all dishonest anti-Tesla propaganda, I saw him retweet some guy who said Elon Musk was a conman, who linked to a German article (he of course doesn't expect you to read it) that pointed out that none out of any of the electric cars on the market right now mention during the charging that there's an inefficiency of about 10 to 20% when charging a battery. It's quite a stretch to go from "The amount of Amps shown to be inside the battery is not equal to the amount of amps that is used to get to that amount, in every electric car on the market." to "Tesla is the new VW, Elon Musk is a con man." I mean these Tesla shorts are delusional, Aswath isn't, he longed Tesla and made a lot of money from it because he's smart.
Market Crash ...lol
He is a Teacher, not a Trader. He lays out the foundation for you to build upon the valuation. Whether or not you succeed (with your prediction / valuation, whatevs) it's beyond the equation. Other factors matter too. Don't bad mouth him.
I'm sure you guys have no idea what he means. When you look at Uber, Uber is a fast growing company. But what makes Uber able to expand this quick? Is its business model. Uber doesn't own any plant, any real asset. Once Uber captures a market, they can just replicate the same model into other different markets without making any capex. But tesla is a manufacturing business. It needs to spend money on plants, machinery and the resembling line. IT TAKES TIME!!! You can build these stuff gravity-defying. And you see tesla have a tradition of missing its production targets.
So aswath doesn't mean tesla is a failure or something. He wants to point out the fact that tesla has so much works to achieve for proving itself worth that much.
Well it's through the
roof now
now 2019, time to buy TSLA! Model 3 and Y are selling like crazy, this company is big enough for mature investors.
Weeeeee
Eyyy Professor Damodaran!!!! Love this man
"for me market timing has never worked"
soo true , when i see people putting trend lines and moving averages and this and that and bla bla bla on charts
it makes me laugh 😵
No disrespect to Aswath, but does he have an actual track record of investing that we can analyze? I've never actually seen or heard of any fund run by him. What he says would have ton more weight if he had a track record.
Jerry Feng check his blog "musing on markets". You can track a bunch his ideas on there
He has a portfolio he talks about in his class on his youtube channel in the corporate finance section. I could find it if your still interested and private message you if you'd like.
$190, how about his prediction? ha
Video reminds No one understand the market ...all are gamblers but play by their own book
Is this person real ?
TESLA is not just a "Auto Maker" they are also a
solar/renewable solutions, new age electric grid solutions, autonomous driving tech, manufacturing robotics
Company!
In all of them they are driving the technology foward (the most advanced tech on these fields).
Even half baked autonomous driving tech company was sold for 0,7 bil last year.
TESLA = Many companies
Jack of all trade but master of none. When it comes to self-driving, Chinese companies had demonstrated that they have better self-driving cars that never crashed - Tesla had a couple of accidents. When it comes to electric cars, Chinese companies like NextEV has the fastest electric cars. Even Warren Buffett took a 10% stake in the Chinese electric car company BYD (build your dreams). BYD, unlike Tesla, is both a battery and car manufacturer. It is in fact one of the biggest manufacturer for cellphone batteries.
When it comes to solar energy, Chinese companies had multi-billion dollar projects with many countries outside of China (not to mentioned that within China itself, the solar energy investment is the largest in the world).
So, most of you are looking at Tesla that is without competition within US. But when Tesla goes out of US to compete against the big boys, that's when it will face problems.
+Timeless D it's shorting time
Timeless D BYD electric cars are crap. A speeding Nissan GT-R crashed into a BYD e6 taxi electric car in Shenzen in 2012. The electric car battery exploded and burned its 3 passengers to death. BYD stock price has never recovered ever since that accident.
Now the world's most valuable automaker
People have been saying TSLA is overvalued for some time now. People will be looking back at TSLA like people now look back at AMZN when they "just sold books."
Good luck losing your money
itube0047 I've already made 43% on my money in less than a year and I adjust my stop loss as it goes higher and higher. :-*
Good stuff. Looking in the mirror is no good though. TSLA is dangerous at these levels. Euphoria may pull it higher, but the fundamentals are bad.
Tech companies > Car Companies. Tesla will not be great because of its cars. Its battery production is far more interesting to me
Companies like Tesla and Amazon are certainly great businesses, but it doesn't mean that buying their stock is a good idea. How many businesses can you name that consistently generate negative cash flows and still have insanely high stock prices? Probably less than you can count.
2020, tesla stock breached 1000 $ and is still climbing.
I'd be more worried about Uber.
lets see who has no pant 1 year later that tesla hit 190-200 range.
*Yes.*
I just love how market analysts have no idea how to deal with or in fact understand Tesla, take them out of the conventional ways that company’s work and they are lost at sea
Every company works at every price if you don't tie it to known reality. Aswath does a far better job of recognizing that there are wide ranges of possibility than the blind lemmings who think that Tesla cannot possibly fail because of magic beans.
Tesla can be a successful company and still never be worth the stock price that people are paying. It can also fail quite easily and be worth NOTHING, or pennies on the dollar. You have to account for those very real possibilities when you are investing.
When you are speculating based on the rosiest possible scenario then you can chase any asset at any price and feel good about it. As long as you don't mind losing your money, that's a great way to invest. Most people don't invest in order to lose money.
TSLA is today at $3000
Reached 380, Professor!!!
Reached 600+
Professor should go back to school and learn.
Anshuman Nayak 900, professor.
@@anshuman2089 Professor is a wise man. He actually made money with Tesla. Look at his recent views on Tesla.
This is not simply an "interesting" view. This is THE bull thesis all along.
The new method is the gigafactory.
3 years later, we are still overvalued. We are all-time high 1/3 of time.
2020 and it’s at 900 lmaooo
Lol 2020 it's 1800
The whole of the DJIA is WAY over valued, crash will come SOON
dow is sitting happy at 28
why not take money out of the stock market and buy real estate notes or perhaps russian bonds. Not sure what they are yielding now but they were yielding over 10 percent I believe.
It is overvalued. When Tesla fails to hit Model 3 production and delivery targets, there'll be a decent correction. If Model 3 bombs, adios Tesla.
Tesla does not just build cars.
India all cars electric by 2030, stuff like this happening, will help a lot tesla.
it may come sooner. estimates are they need to come up with $10 billion above the revenue targets to get all those Model 3's out the door. That is a lot of cash that has to come from somewhere.
Model 3 production on track boy. Get rekt.
+AceSKYwalker was right. Q3 production failed miserably and TSLA stock plummeted from 380 to 294. Now we wait to see if the company can correct things.
Listening to all this now in 2021 , doesn't make sense. Everything is only raising, especially on Tesla front. At the end of the day, it is a manf company values as a tech company
Tesla is amazing, and will pull of the revenue and production required to be a 300 dollar stock.
with that being said at this very moment they are not worth 300. therefore for now it would be a pretty decent short, as we have already started to see it come off its all time highs.
☠️ lol
Drive a tesla and you'll never want to drive another car.
I wouldn’t drive a Tesla even if it was the only car
grow up kiddo Tesla is not a car its just a battery box on wheels
Lol what a sucker
Trying to pump that stock?
@@aneesh8963 What do you mean? Then ICE cars are just fuel tank on wheels
Uberrrrrr
If these guys know so much about what they're talking about then why aren't they billionaires?
Do you know the salaries they make? Not everyone wants to run a fund.
Pretty sure Aswath is a millionaire, that's good enough for me...
Because he's a professor, he likes his job and he's good at it.
lmao
Aswath bought Tesla in the summer of 2019. He saw value then.
gg
Aswath actually "believed" in 2014 that Tesla was worth $67.12 per share when it was trading at $170 per share. He's a joker. Right now it's $338..
@@Lak79ify how about now?
@@Katana_00 How about now ? lol 600+
