In the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail, they turned up some history of Opus Dei that goes back....very far back....1300-1400s I think France, but I could be wrong about that. Opus Dei was a militant group with commanding "priests" and no....I am NOT talking about the Knights Templar, although there were connections for different reasons...I forget. Its worth researching the history of Opus Dei....Find good sources. Maybe even divinity library at Harvard you could access some history, I do not know.

Thank you Lee and and Ruth for yet another enlightening--and frightening--talk on the imminent dangers we are facing. I really like Lee's statement about someone saying they have become 'a one issue voter'--removing Republicans from office _everywhere._ , because they cannot be entrusted with power. Couldn't agree more! We had better start heeding the words and suggestions of many of these scholars, academics, historians, psychologists/medical professionals (i.e., Dr. Bandy X. Lee), journalists, activists who are our 'canaries in the coal mine', sounding the warning that danger lies ahead and soon, and galvanize and stiffen our purpose to get out the vote for all reasonable Democrats/democrats, progressives; all with two feet in the world of reality, truth, facts, reason, and frankly, human decency, goodness and progress. It wouldn't hurt to have your bags packed ahead of 2024,...just in case.

American here, and with an entirely "red state" family heritage besides. Most - if not all - my family voted for Trump. So that makes me a "blue sheep" (but still on friendly terms with them, even if we do argue about politics). I 100% agree with you, and furthermore I otherwise tick off all the checklist boxes of the MAGA profile besides. I'm also just as amazed as you are even to this day - given that Trump-alike (and actual former KKK Grand Wizard) David Duke got trounced in 1991 when he ran Governor of Louisiana and likewise lost his US Senate bid in 1990. A lot more to say about this, but I'll close by saying I've seen Trump's type before - well outside politics. I knew after his first specifically personalized insults against that disabled NYT reporter and John McCain, he would eventually dish out a raw deal to his supporters and certainly to the USA. What this indicates is you are unfortunately very ignorant of American history . There has always been a very significant group of people in the USA who have never believed that phrase in the constitution - "that all men are created equal" - dating back to when it was signed . The Roosevelt new deal -and resulting policies created a large middle class in America. The distribution of wealth that created topped out in 1967 and has been steadily declining for that middle class ever since beginning with the Powell memo in 1971. Republicans have dominated policy creating increasingly greater wealth divisions - one thing we know about the super wealthy - the only thing they like is more wealth and this move towards totalitarianism has been underway for a long long time. These ladies of course outlined a very bleak picture but they did emphasize one important thing is in these next 2 elections especially - we theoretically can avoid catastrophe by just voting in overwhelming fashion that is the most salient part of this whole discussion.

I'm also aware that there was a large group in the US that was sympathetic to the Nazis (unfortunately they still exist). However, it does not change the fact that many US soldiers fought against the Nazis and sacrificed their lives in the process. And I'm convinced that these soldiers are just turning in their graves. He is now gerrymandering our districts to give the GOP an over 75% win no matter how we vote.. in Ohio! A moderate, swing state- certifiably not republican. We must use all power we still have to fight back. Harass our legislators, protest, spread the truth through word of mouth & social media, learning to physically protect ourselves, organizing, etc. It’s no longer time to try to meet across bipartisan lines. They are fascists & we have to stand in direct opposition or else we will crumble, while still trying to reach out to them.

Great discussion. Since he came down that escalator it has been exhausting & difficult to hang on to hope. We couldn't even process the election before the right started promoting the Big Lie & then we had the first time the transfer of power was not peaceful. The violence of January 6th was horrifying & the gop continuing to downplay it is disturbing. It used to be that dems & republicans could disagree on policy but still work together for the American people.

I left a Comment....you can dig if you like to dig. In the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail, they turned up some history of Opus Dei that goes back....very far back....1300-1400s I think France, but I could be wrong about that. Opus Dei was a militant group with commanding "priests" and no....I am NOT talking about the Knights Templar, although there were connections for different reasons...I forget. Its worth researching the history of Opus Dei....Find good sources. Maybe even divinity library at Harvard you could access some history, I do not know.
@CLH it is somewhat of a cult but it's not all that religious. Its mainly based upon militant/dictatorial/old-school Bad Pope control and land-grabbing, etc. Basically they were the morality cops. But they have always been a "closed" group, somewhat like the Freemasons or the Order of the Eastern Star for women. There is only one God and there are positions and initiations to move through. Tests of loyalty and trust and so forth.

We had better start heeding the words and suggestions of many of these scholars, academics, historians, psychologists/medical professionals (i.e., Dr. Bandy X. Lee), journalists, activists who are our 'canaries in the coal mine', sounding the warning that danger lies ahead and soon, and galvanize and stiffen our purpose to get out the vote for all reasonable Democrats/democrats, progressives; all with two feet in the world of reality, truth, facts, reason, and frankly, human decency, goodness and progress.

I’ll watch it to her three more time and make a transcript of a bunch a great lines from here, but wow do you lay it out succinctly and in an easy to relay way. I knew all the details and can see this coming, but in a foggy way. You are so familiar with authoritarianism and its usual rise, you no which points to emphasize, and especially when trying to explain it to Zee corporate Republicans, and the politically uninterested. You answer the big question for me, and roll the numbers by us, about which group to focus on. That group is previously politically uninterested. Does it matter what you want as far as policy goes, and Democrats may screw up policy or do things you don’t like, but in November it’s a one issue vote up and down the ballot, and it is to elect every Democrat in a wave so big that we put a stop to fascism now. Tonight they’re calling to defund the FBI because they weren’t loyal enough to not read Donald Trump’s house. I hope they got something juicy he was going to sell the Russians. That’s democracy fighting back, that’s the rule of law fighting back, and if we don’t vote, all these agents will be arrested in a week.

As a German, I'd never have thought that the USA would one day become what they once actively fought, a Nazi dictatorship. Every single US soldier who lost his life in WW II over 70 years ago fighting the Nazi dictatorship is turning over in his grave right now out of sheer disgust on how the GOP is worshiping Nazis in the US. I do not live in the US, nor do I have any special ties to the US. I can only ask all US citizens, don't allow this. Don't let history repeat. In World War II over 50 million people were killed because of my ancestors. Among them were 6 million Jews and 4 million other prisoners who were slaughtered by the Nazis. Don't you notice the parallels between the Third Reich and the current developments in the USA? Fundamental Christians burn books, angry mobs roam the streets of the towns and scream "Jews will not replace us", a party that sees itself as the chosen party with the chosen leader Donald Trump that will do anything to scare people into thinking Jews, foreigners, gays, and many others are a fundamental threat to their lives. Do you really not see how alike the GOP and the former NSDAP are now? I'm getting on with you, don't let the GOP lead you into a cruel future. Probably none of us will survive another world war.
American here, and with an entirely "red state" family heritage besides. Most - if not all - my family voted for Trump. So that makes me a "blue sheep" (but still on friendly terms with them, even if we do argue about politics). I 100% agree with you, and furthermore I otherwise tick off all the checklist boxes of the MAGA profile besides. I'm also just as amazed as you are even to this day - given that Trump-alike (and actual former KKK Grand Wizard) David Duke got trounced in 1991 when he ran Governor of Louisiana and likewise lost his US Senate bid in 1990. A lot more to say about this, but I'll close by saying I've seen Trump's type before - well outside politics. I knew after his first specifically personalized insults against that disabled NYT reporter and John McCain, he would eventually dish out a raw deal to his supporters and certainly to the USA. The glove just fit that kind of hand too well.

What this indicates is you are unfortunately very ignorant of American history . There has always been a very significant group of people in the USA who have never believed that phrase in the constitution - "that all men are created equal" - dating back to when it was signed . The Roosevelt new deal -and resulting policies created a large middle class in America. The distribution of wealth that created topped out in 1967 and has been steadily declining for that middle class ever since beginning with the Powell memo in 1971. Republicans have dominated policy creating increasingly greater wealth divisions - one thing we know about the super wealthy - the only thing they like is more wealth and this move towards totalitarianism has been underway for a long long time. These ladies of course outlined a very bleak picture but they did emphasize one important thing is in these next 2 elections especially - we theoretically can avoid catastrophe by just voting in overwhelming fashion that is the most salient part of this whole discussion.

I'm also aware that there was a large group in the US that was sympathetic to the Nazis (unfortunately they still exist). However, it does not change the fact that many US soldiers fought against the Nazis and sacrificed their lives in the process. And I'm convinced that these soldiers are just turning in their graves. Nor does this change the fact that a Trump administration in coalition with Putin can lead us into a third world war. No matter what opinion you may have. Fascist are right wing socialist...The Nazis nationalized like 600 businesses right off the bat and then controlled the means of production through intimidations, arrests, direct orders, use of slaves, and other methods all throughout their reign. They people were represented by the state ( which was more important than human/civil rights. the state rules supreme in fascism) and the state took control of the means of production to further the means of the state which through proxy are the people. That is the basic definition of socialism.
Right now they are using the threat of socialism as the boogeyman of the left...when in reality they are pushing RIGHT wing socialism and the state before civil rights. This needs to be fought through our votes and political action. We need to be aware of this and stop it now.

Fascism waits in the wings until conditions are right for it's resurgence. Any society that meets the criteria will turn to fascism. If you want to defeat fascism, change the conditions that allow it to blossom.

Leonard Leo, the Federalist society and Judicial Crisis Network who orchestrated the funding to stack the courts is an extrene catholic ( most are a la carte or in name only) and Ann Corkery Wellspring Committee which washes billionaire donations for extreme right wing causes is Opus Dei and was the Catholic league, her husband also Wellspring was Opus Dei. Opus Dei gets them at college level targeting bright graduated to implement an extreme conservative agenda.

Hopfully Trump ends up in jail and can't run. However desantis is almost as bad, even worse in some ways we really need high voter turnout to make sure our country doesn't turn into a fascist oligarchy/ theocracy. I don't want to live in that dystopian nightmare.
