At the 9:12 time mark, you discussed why it would be necessary to adjust the "outfeed" fence, once it has been aligned when initially setting the fences.
The reason for this is: IF in cutting the edge of a board, you remove ALL the material (most of the time this does not happen), THEN the piece would not be supported by the outfeed fence; and the stock could then be ruined by moving in towards the fence.
Of course, IF the cutter does not remove all of the edge, then there is no need to re-adjust the outfeed position once it is initially set.
If all the edge is cut, you would do this: After the edge has been cut a few inches, stop the cut; then re-adjust the outfeed fence so it touches the edge and supports it all the way for the rest of the cut.
    For whatever it's worth.

Thanks for your extended videos. I appreciate them. Just bought the latest version of this machine and now I started to put them up and to work in my new shop....

Thank you, Peter, for your generosity of taking time to produce a thoughtful and very helpful video on the features and proper use of the MiniMax. I have a Felder and wish we had on one site a similar series of videos on a Felder combination machine.

I recently bought the Lab 300p and yours are the only videos with any info on the machine ( basically the same ) thanks!

So what would an inappropriate dimension be? I shudder to think.... :-) But seriously, I found your run-through of the CU300 useful.

PS. I had my machine fitted with the helicoidal cutter head. A fantastic improvement.

Is your sliding table coplanar with rip cut/spindle table or slightly higher?

Thanks for the reply Peter. Yes I remember now, having partially dismantled the machine. I have discovered a blown capacitor on the planer motor. The pain is the local SMC distributor (Australia) does not replace them and will only quote for a new motor delivered from Italy. I can order one from an electrical supplier, but how the heck do I get access to that motor? Even getting my phone inside to take a photo of the compliance plate required significant contortionist skills! Cheers Michael

I've had this machine for about 10 years, but today the jointer/planer is refusing to start. The motor seems fine as the spindle and saw both work fine, but the cutter block shudders but does not turn. I can turn it easily by hand and see no obvious obstacles. The manual is useless regarding troubleshooting. Any ideas what I could try? Where to look?

Michael, sorry to hear about your problems. You seem to be unaware that the table saw, shaper, and jointer/planer use 3 different motors. From your description, it seems that the motor that drives the J/P is not working. I have no idea how to diagnose your problem beyond this guess. I'd suggest that you post a question to the Mini-Max Yahoo discussion group. If you're unfamiliar with the group, you can get more info here: groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/MiniMax-USA --Peter

Hello, when you have the router protection cover, is it possible to open the planing table?

Things were different when I bought my machine back in 2005. For Minimax machines, I can only suggest that you start here: shopscm.us . As you say, they don't list prices except for a few machines that are currently on sale. Best of luck, Peter

Thanks for the videos. Very helpful and informative. Do you have the name of the shaper cutter head set that you show in the video? Do you know where I can purchase a set like that?

The brand of the insert shaper tooling is Flury. The label says the company is based in Switzerland. As I think I mentioned, the set I have was included with the machine. The fixed shaper cutters in my collection were all purchased from a company called Woodline. I've been happy with their quality. They do also do have insert tooling sets (www.woodline.com/collections/indexable). For more options, you could post the question to the Mini-Max Yahoo discussion group.

Shapers are really versatile but a combination machine never appealed to me. Adding a power feed helps a lot. The Minimax is a nice step up from the Chinese machines for the home/very small shop.

Minimax! what's going on? Everytime I try to convince myself to buy this combomachine you push me away.
