I would love to have that high quality screen from mbp 14’ but the screen size is crucial for me, so I have chosen mba 15’.
and for your use case you don't need a lot of power... browser tabs, documents therefore you don't need much of power. I love my MBA 15. lighter, bigger screen and its powerful enough for a normal use case ...
The weight is not much different but something about it feels lighter, maybe because the weight is distributed around a larger area. Also for carrying it around in a bag, thinness matters too.
The comparisons are all over the place & in my opinion it really depends on if you're comparing the base model to base model or upgraded model to upgraded model. The base models, the differences are wide enough to know which one is for you. But really who goes with just 8 GB Memory & 256 GB storage nowadays. When you up the Memory & Storage on the 15" Air, the water is much more muddled. I am leaning towards the 14" pro now myself.
Thing is that as soon as you add memory and SSD to the base model it ends up in 14" territory, that comes with better wifi, better screen, more ports, higher memory bandwidth, better hdmi build in, and when you look at Apple refurbished it is obviously clear that the MacBook Air 15" falls a little short especially when you look Canadian dollar prices and I have heard the same for Australia. However, the 15" is so much fun, it is an excellent machine, it is light and thin. The M2 is going to be a powerful processor but.... Buyer beware: You get 4 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores with the 15", the 8 cores are just added for marketing (or to muddle the waters). The 10 core CPU is what we call the "binned" cpu where there were some flaws in the die that made them not make the 12 core cut and are 6 Core and 4 efficiency cores. The 12 core 14" obviously have 8 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. I think you are on the right track. I purchased the Max because of the increased memory bandwidth and my endeavours in machine learning.
@@aelaan12kind of, but not at all. At least not everywhere… in Europe or Mexico the price difference between an upgraded MacBook Air to 512ssd 16ram and a base model MacBook Pro is really close to the 500 euros or 11,000mxn (average full monthly income)… so is not as clear as that

Thanks for the great vid!
In my use case I do back-end development and sys admin work where it's either server-side or cloud. I don't need the power of the Pro and for me I don't compare it against the 14 inch like others are. I'm comparing the 15 inch to the 16 inch pro mainly because of the screen size. My job requires me to be mobile and having a lighter laptop and a larger screen is much better. I currently have the 13 inch Air and it works with everything I need it to do. I'll be upgrading to the 15 inch Air. Yes, the 16 inch pro could help but the weight and the cost against the 15 inch air makes it an easy decision for me.
The base 2021 MacBook Pro 14 refurbished is a little cheaper than the MacBook 15 air specced to 16/512. And I’m having a hard time deciding. I am stuck in between the 15 MBA with 16 GB memory and 512 GB of storage vs the base M2 14 MBP. I plan on keeping this computer for more than 6 years to be my main desktop and laptop. Great review. So much of what's out there just assumes that every single consumer is exactly the same, then runs 40 benchmarks to show how the Pro is "better," and invariably concludes that 100% of everyone should buy the pro. Now more than ever, the pro is for pros... the air is for everyone else, and it's *good.*
Thanks for the great video! I need to replace my 2017 macbook pro 15“ very soon. I work mostly with photoshop and capture one. Using raw files. I basically never do video. Would you recommend me getting a macbook air or rather the pro 14‘‘? I work part time as a portrait photographer.
The 14” on paper is what I should buy for the money I’m spending but, I have desktop so I went with the 15” air. Big screen and performance. By the way I hate “pro” term. I’m a professional I’m a professional business owner and Security Architect . I get paid, a lot, for my work. The Air is great for professionals.
How does the 15 inch MacBook Air M2 24ram vs 16 inch MacBook Pro 16ram compare? I don’t want to waste 2,500 on a MacBook Pro 16 inch if I can get the air for 700 less. Mostly want the 16 inch for the screen/display quality. And wasn’t sure if 16 ram is enough. I’m sure ram won’t be an issue with 16?
I had the 13 inch MacBook Air since it came out in September, I have been waiting anxiously for this 15 inch but now that I have it I'm kind of regretting it and wishing I had the 14 inch but I still have never seen a 14 inch in person, Apple stores like two hours, and Best Buy has never had one on display every time I went there in the last year. Still don't know what to do. I'm gonna go swing by Best Buy one more time and see if I can see one in person.
What would be the recommendation if you have multiple web windows opened along with mail, MS Office, and possibly one or two other programs. I am not a pro photographer or engineer and don’t use programs that have are intense.
The quality of the display carried a lot weight in my decision so I went with the M2 14” MBP since it’s currently on sale for $1749 I sleep better knowing it’s more future proof lol
The 14 Pro seems so much smaller than the Air. I think if you’re a pro the 16 inch MacBook Pro would be the better option in my opinion. If you’re not a pro ,the Air with 16gb of ram and at least 512gb storage.
How is the 15 air more portable than the 14? Sure weight wise its lighter by abit, but isnt it harder to find bags that fit it? I feel like real life footprint comparisons are sleeped on by all the video comparisons i've seen so far.
I've always rocked the pro, but my 2020 13.3 is not having the battery life that it used to so I've been thinking about that 18 hour battery. I'm struggling because I only stream with it but picture quality is important to me. Just not totally sure which way to go because cost of the air is great, it's thinner, lighter, etc... but I'd love to know how much better the pro's picture quality really is.
I have always said that a great MacBook should last you 10 years. While I recognize some have the money and because it's a tool they'll invest more frequently. However, I still live by this rule for myself. What configuration would you recommend for average user (browsing, file management, little bit of book keeping work, phone calls and music)? With future updates, would the MacBook Pro carry me a couple extra years?
imo you should get at least 16gb of ram and a 512gb disk if you want it to last till 2033. 16gb will probably be the minimum and might even be too little.
This was so useful and you put it in tangible terms! TY. Now here's the question, if you are ready to upgrade now but have a older MacBook pro (prior to M chips)- should you wait for the M3 at this point? Or can you get enough bang for your buck with the M2?
Definitely bang for your buck, will last you a few years depending on RAM (16GB recommended), if you keep waiting for the next chip you'll never purchase anything
Could you expand more on the screens? It seems the 14" has more pixels and with the superior contrast of the XDR display should be able to run at the same scaled resolution as the 15". . It also seems as if the 14" can be run at a retina scaled resolution ie 1 scaled pixel = 4 real pixels for crisp text.
I’m a digital nomad and I’m gonna say this: mbp has so much more brightness that this feature alone is a deal breaker for me. With a help of some 3rd party apps you can rock 1000nits across all apps and this is a point of no return to dimmer screens. If you’re a pro user, meaning you spend descent amount of time working you need pro. Hours of work aren’t gonna be as taxing on eyeballs with bright and crisp 120 hz screen! If you’re a casual user and need a gadget rather than a tool - go for air without second thought.
I’m a nursing student who will be doing a mix of papers, simulations, media consumption, but I do all of these at once. Ive had issues when i push computers to the point where i run out of memory. I am looking at the M2 pro 14 inch but idk if i should upgrade the chip or ram. Thoughts?
I am a nurse and wanted to tell you that you don't need the pro. As a nursing student, all you are doing is web browsing, maybe using power point, and using Microsoft word. The pro is too overpowered for your needs and will be a waste of money. Get the air. I finished my whole nursing program on a computer with 8gb ram and 256 gb storage without any issues. I still had over 150GB of storage left by the end of the program. The m2 air will serve you well and getting the pro is just a waste of money.

So much of what's out there just assumes that every single consumer is exactly the same, then runs 40 benchmarks to show how the Pro is "better," and invariably concludes that 100% of everyone should buy the pro. Now more than ever, the pro is for pros... the air is for everyone else, and it's *good.*
So the weight is a big factor? They both weigh about the same. I don't understand the rush to the !5". It's like a Mustang V6 vs. a GT.
The 15 inch refurbished M2 Air sounds like a good deal or if to expensive just wait for the m3 version to come out and get this on a discount.
Where is it on sale? And how long is the sale gonna last?
@@chezchezchezchez its offered at that price by costco, walmart, b&h.
15 MacBook Air or 14 m1 MacBook Pro which one would pick out
14 is the king, perfect size
If you want to go with MBA 15, why not MBP16?
I've watched a few of your videos, and I like your content and presentation style so I just subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Excellent video! Loved how simple it was
The 14 Pro seems so much smaller than the Air.
For content consumption and emails should I get MacBook Air 15 or MacBook Pro 14?
How's much of sound quality difference, Mac bro speakers are amazing, very useful when traveling, although so would the weight saving on the air
14 for the pro-motion
thank you foe making things simple
I’m looking for a good keyboard like brydge for iPad but company is bankrupt any recommendations?
This was so useful and you put it in tangible terms! TY. Now here's the question, if you are ready to upgrade now but have a older MacBook pro (prior to M chips)- should you wait for the M3 at this point? Or can you get enough bang for your buck with the M2?
Definitely bang for your buck, will last you a few years depending on RAM (16GB recommended), if you keep waiting for the next chip you'll never purchase anything
@@TheClosedBoxTTV TY, that's how I was feeling! Appreciate it.
I’m just debating if I should go with 16gb ram or 512ssd or both?? On the Air.
Can’t decide.
16gb because without any thing open you already at 5gb on the ram 😢
I would upgrade to MacBook Air 15 inch
Sadly because of apple ridiculous scaling with higher resolution in Pro you can fit less on the screen.
But what about the battery in real world use
Could you expand more on the screens? It seems the 14" has more pixels and with the superior contrast of the XDR display should be able to run at the same scaled resolution as the 15". . It also seems as if the 14" can be run at a retina scaled resolution ie 1 scaled pixel = 4 real pixels for crisp text.
you are correct, the 14 has higher ppi and much superior contract thanks to XDR.
Only being able to run 1 external display kills it for me
If you value your eyesight more nits is not always a good thing.
I’m looking for a MacBook that can handle blender or maya. Or animation software
I’m a nursing student who will be doing a mix of papers, simulations, media consumption, but I do all of these at once. Ive had issues when i push computers to the point where i run out of memory. I am looking at the M2 pro 14 inch but idk if i should upgrade the chip or ram. Thoughts?
upgrade the RAM. The base pro processor is more than ample enough.
@@rbasi25 it’s said the he/she is doing simulations. That changed the context a bit.
Or, you can always get a big screen and the power of MacBook Pro. Get a 16” MacBook Pro.
Does anyone use MBA or MBP as engineer? Using apps like AutoCAD, Revit etc?
85% of people need to choose the macbook air cheaper and anything with the M1 chip is amazingly strong
great video
I bought the new computer it’s coming in Thursday☺️
I’ve always wondered that
I hate the keyboard design on the air.
M1 14” MacBook Pro; value.
Can't argue that. However, value still isn't the only metric one should use when buying a laptop!
I love these stupid review videos…..clickbait!!! Anyone who is buying one of these know if they need the Pro.
As for the 15in…
Why no SD card slot?!?!?!
Why no USB-C ports on the right side?!?!?
No MagSafe?!?!?
C’MON APPLE!!!
What do you mean no MagSafe?
Because that would make it the Pro lol.
Good video buddy! I’m first comment 😊😊😊
At least get the laptops if you are going to make a video like this. Really lazy effort, using a bunch of B roll footage directly from Apple.
