I swear, Henry Mancini deserved at least an Oscar nomination for his music in this film. Such an underrated Disney score and deserves more recognition.
I'm starting to think the Oscars have never been about artistic achievement, just a way the studios to push forward people they think they can make money off of, in other words its fixed.. I think you used to get some actual wins, but since the 90's it seems like that's gotten less and less until now everything is fixed and they don't even try to hide it. So don't be surprised at the music not get nominated, its likely that music from a Disney movie didn't fit into 'big Hollywood's' agenda.
I still remember seeing this in the cinema as a kid and being absolutely blown away by the experience. Of all the animated movies, this was the one that left the biggest impression. The score is a huge part of why, but the whole movie is incredibly impressive; the clock tower fight at the end still awes me today and stands as one of the best Disney climaxes of all time. It's bizarre that Disney seems to almost disown this film when it is so superior to a LOT of their catalog even now. PS Rattigan is one of my favourite Disney villains ever. I got legit chills when he rings that bell and when he throws Fidget from the blimp.
That's probably the reason why Disney doesn't want people to remember this movie and others like it from back in the day, they don't people to realize how bad their standards have fallen since then. They'll only re-release and post on streaming the 'classic Disney' movies like Cinderella and Pinocchio that everyone knows about, not movies like this.
I'm crying. Life was so simple then. My grandad was around, and we loved watching this together. I used to ask him so many questions about it, lol. This, the secret of Nymph, Fieval goes West, and all dogs go to heaven...😢 Gosh, i really miss the old days. It seems like a lifetime ago. Someone wake me up 💔
@@JoshuaTheTransitProdigyThese films are simply the bee's knees! I'm a total nostalgia buff, and I can't help but wish I could hop in a time machine and relive those moments all over again! I was completely obsessed with Fieval! 😅
I saw this three times in theaters at age four in 86 in St. Louis and dug it and had read along with cassette. I was disappointed it never came to video for a long time as I wanted it! And I did saw the 92 rerelease at turning ten 2 times and got the vhs for Christmas then I’m 2002 got the dvd and 2013 blu. This movie introduced me to Vincent price and I remember digging Miss kitty mouse the dancer when I was a kid

You're tuggin' at my heart strings! This is my favorite movie from the 80's despite being a 92' baby. I loved Fievel Goes West too!

Thanks for this underrated gem from Henry Mancini!
Each time around Christmas I have to listen to this soundtrack and have my dosage , no matter the age.. Thank you, instant nostalgia!
All the feels of my childhood, tyvm for this. Disney hasn't shown much support to this film. It's nice to have the score in a nice HQ recording.
Crazy to hear this in a new way! Maybe the way it should be heard. I wasn’t alive in 1986, but Mr. Mancini sure was!
Grande Henry Mancini!
Beautiful score 😭🖤🥹
Thank you so much! One of my favorite disney movies back in the day

Simply - Masterpiece.
Damn that first part reaaaaally needed to be longer. :(
日本では本当に知名度が低いですが、今の時代にリメイクしてまたみんなに知られるような作品になってくれると嬉しいです…
「The Great Mouse Detective」はとても素晴らしい作品です。

Is it just me, or does Ratigan looks so similar to Mr Hyde in this picture? The hat, the stick, and the evil expression 🤔🗿
