That's amazing. Janetta Carter sings and pays on the autoharp as Sarah Carter and Joe Carter sings as A.P. Carter. We have a saying that "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." In this case, it is doubly true. Beautiful country music.
Many years ago I went to the Carter Family fold and it was a religious experience for me.I am so glad my parents were with me.To go up the hill and stand before the graves of Sara and A.P. and sing was awesome and made the hair on my neck stand up !I saw Janette and Joe that trip.I know they are all singing in the heavenly choir.I sing this song often and I hope someone will sing it over my remains when I pass. Thanks be to God for the folks who made this music AND those who preserved it !
O how I miss all my Family that are gone , and my oldest daughter Khandi. This is a true song . Yes I do miss them all , they are gone now , but I expect to join them all in God's Kindom.
1:00 I love the way she says "plaint"! I still talk that way too, "paints", "daince", "caindy", etc. I get a lot of laughs from the young guys on my crew without even trying, but I don't care!
How do you know for sure that these two are their children for sure ? I didn't know Joe Carter was kin to the original Carter Family ? I know Maybelle had 3 daughters. But I don't know where Joe fits in at ? And who is the other man that sings this sing with them ? Just Curious lol.
I was raised on the original Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers. Their music was the greatest. I have just about all their recordings in boxed sets. Sure beats what they are calling country music nowadays.
A copy of her mother with the heart of her father. Read her book. I have been to the graves and sat there in the sunshine and the rain. I will always love the Carter Family. Who will miss me when I'm gone. There is a version that is rarely played from The Carter Family Vol. 2 (1935-41) " In a winding sheet of daisies this frail body you'll enfold"
i love this video and seeing janette and joe in their middle age. i met her a couple of years later. she died in 2006...a very sad day...joe died in 2005
Beautiful! Thanks to UA-cam I have the possibility to hear/watch this song sung by the children of Sara and A P Carter. I have loved this song since the mid 1960's when I heard it with Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Cisco Houston and others from a Folkways record. Thank you Alan Lomax and you crew for saving this movie for the future.
God bless them all. Rest in peace. Your time on this earth was rough and I know what it was like to have remote parents. Jeanette, I have read your books and have walked on the land you walked with your Daddy I am certain there were many hard times when you wished you had more love from him.. I hope you are holding his hand in Heaven He had a mission - you preserved his gift for the American people more than any one else Does this answer the question posed by the song? Thanks for post
Well, Joe had those "Carter Ears" My dad also had them. His name was also Joe. His dad was named Josephus and Grandad was William R. Carter. from same area. Relatives I assume.
God she sounds like her mom. So beautiful. I can also hear AP in her brother. Love this.. 💞
I agree it’s awesome
She sounds so much like Sara. And Joe sounds so much like A.P. it’s uncanny. A step back in time through them.

Appalachia Proud. Rugged, American strife...straight from Ulster. Good people make great, sorrowful song.

Janette is the double of Sara! Even sounds like her, great video.
She sings harmony like Maybelle too!

Nobody looks quite like Sara though. She is unique.
Not quite, she's similar but different
Now friends and neighbors, that's music, and I don't care who you are.

One of my old favorites...sad to think all the old acts I grew up with are nearly gone...guess that's a cold hard fact of getting old :(

What’s the title of her book called?
I miss my Aunt. She was full of life. Joe was always quiet and would rather sit and talk to people.
You must have a lot of really fond memories!

Beautiful Song
most beautiful song, they dont sing them like this any more because no one wants to face the true realitys of life.
I long to be in the midst of these souls to more deeply assimilate this honest and true music. Music clearly comprised a large part of their DNA.

Nothing like sibling harmony.
about 10 years before he hit the game winning home run for Toronto in the '93 World Series. Can't never forget that moment as long as I live.
