  • Kool Kordz XXXX - Nicolas Slonimsky - Equal Division of 2 Octaves supported by every interval within an octave from above and below
    Quadritone progression-
    C - Ab (Minor 6th)
    Ab - E (Minor 6th)
    E - C (Minor 6th)
    2 Octaves
This exercise is good for your aural comprehension of intervals, and the improvement of the ability to hear a note before you play it.
The exercise is best done slow, to be able to hear the interval. Even better is to try and whistle or sing the pitches as you play them along with using a metronome.
    Practicing
In 2006 New York City, NY, in a lesson with Fred Hersch, a discussion about practice took place. I had just finished my jazz bachelor studies and urgently needed new guidance. He articulated the importance of being open to all the harmonic and rhythmic possibilities available, and not closing any ideas off or be limited in my approach. Hersch said, “do not practice but experiment”. I was going about my ‘practice’ all wrong. I was spending way too much time 'practicing' and not getting results.
This exercise is not rocket science, it is just a way to go out of your comfort zone and not to judge yourself.
