    I used to make 45 dollars per horse to braid manes and tails at horse shows which paid my entry fees. Beautiful and efficient job on such a long mane. Your horse is beyond beautiful. Watching from California

      But SO many UA-camrs say they have to keep on taking time off from UA-cam for their mental health. That's horse people and all others too. So I'm just happy when they do post, and I enjoy them immensely.

    As someone with long hair, I can attest to the fact that clean, slightly damp hair is the easiest to braid nicely and the most comfortable long term. Very nice work on the mane.

    When people started asking if you'd do a video on this, you seemed a bit reluctant to do one. So I started looking up "how to" videos on UA-cam. Each one was a little different from the other, but all used thread, and the end result never looked as good as yours. Thanks for showing how you do this, Matt. Your method makes a much nicer looking rosette and seems easier to remove when ready.. ❤

    In america we call those scallop braids, brought a western pony to a dressage show and got so many complements on them! I leave the braid between the rosettes a little loose to make sure they can comfortably stretch for extension/free walk, and it may not be the traditional look (or even acceptable at higher levels? idk) but it can make a trail horse look baroque!

    The transformation is very successful, even if I like Emporio's long mane, but it's not practical if it's windy, hence the long braids. For a show, a competition or just for fun, rosettes are a great alternative. Some riders may find the tips on how to change the appearance of the neck using optical illusion useful.
    Thank you for your demonstration and your detailed explanations, they will be of real interest to many people. Emporio is gorgeous and I also thank him for his patience 👌👏😍💗

    So cool to see this all over now. My sister invented this style braid over 18 years ago. There was only the scallop or French braid for long manes and she wanted to have the look of buttons for her Morgan dressage horse. A tip I use to make them tidy and to struggle less pulling them thru is using a plastic braid pull thru tool where you just twist the end of the hair and put that in the needle like hole then pull it thru ! Also can do hunter looking braids with this method

    There is a tool that you can get (probably on amazon), that uses the same concept as a needle and thread, but much larger of course. You put the hair through the “eye”, then you run the “needle” up through the top of the braid, the hair follows. My granddaughter has very long curly hair. She loves to make fancy plaiting . When I got that flexible tool for braids and ponytails, we just whisked right along, and it never disturbed the hair at the top of the braid. It will definitely save you time! No matter, your plats are beautiful-well done 👍❗️

    Back in the Dark Ages, when I was doing braids, I had a little loop made of thin wire that I would push down through the top of the braid, tuck the end of the braid through the loop and then pull the wire with the end of the braid back up through the top of the braid. Way smoother and faster than trying to grab the end with your fingers!

    @Sarah-cq1vb Місяць тому +3

    There is a cheap little hair tool that you can use to pull the hair more easily back through the base of the braid. It’s essentially a flexible loop and the handle comes to a point. You put the hair through the loop and use the point to make the hole where you wish to put the hair through and pull the tool all the way through the hole which in turn pulls the hair you put through the loop with it. Also if you would like to avoid hair breakage I would not use plastic elastics like you had there. Spend the money on the little ones that are made not to get stuck on the hair. It’s also more comfortable to not have the elastic pulling. Another thing I would do to make the style still neat and proper but more comfortable would be to start with a pony tail braid that tight like you prefer pull it through then cut the elastic that you initially put on for the pony tail off so you don’t see it. The hair style will still be secure but it won’t be so tight that it hurts. You have a very tolerant horse from a woman’s point of view the hairstyle the way you did it would definitely hurt. It’s also bad for the hair follicle to be pulled tight all the time. You will cause premature thinning of the hair which in some cases can cause bald patches.

    Hey! What a nice and detailed video! Just in case it can interest you, there are some kind of plastic rings that help you pull the end of the braid through the top of the mane to complete the rossete and it is quite easier than doing it with your bare hands. Of course everyone likes doing it differently, but I think it is a greta tool to try if you haven't done it yet!

    Interesting video on horse hair plaits, how long did it take you to fully learn to do these competition rosettes? Being a guy with short hair, and without any sisters growing up with you, it must of taken some time. I used to try and plait my sisters hair, but I never knew what to do and watching my sister plait her really long hair without looking is strange to me.

    Women have an apparatus we use to do that "end pull through the top of the braid" method. It's a long blunt needle type thing with a loop at one end. You put the end of the hair in the loop and work it through the top with the needle. We used them in the 90s, when that style was popular for women. They are still available, if interested.

    A good tip is always start detangling the mane with your fingers then a brush and if you have a wide tooth comb to help detangle without braking hairs or yanking them out. Since I started doing it this way I have noticed a significant difference In my horses mane. Much healthier and fuller. Also helped with consistent and even hair growth. And incase your wondering if I do or don’t know what I’m talking about I have a 8 year old stallion PRE also a Tordillo color or Gray, more white than gray, but similar mane just maybe a half or a full foot longer.

    Pulling hair through hair is something most girls learn quite young. When my hair was long, I used a plastic loop to pull my hair through a roll. Maybe that could help you. You might find a loop in the hair accessory dept. in your supermarket, or online. Amazon has them.
