Who says the tv shows even have to have plots? I would love to see David Attenborough do a nature documentary on the flora and fauna of the various planets from the original trilogy!

As someone who's been really enjoying Biblaridion's Alien Biospheres series, I'd _love_ for someone to do something akin to The Future Is Wild again. Alternate earth history, alien planet, speculative evolution for earth, something more magical, television adaptation of Serina: World of Birds? I'm 100% down for a documentary based on spec evo, either a nature documentary based on a snapshot of a planet, or something that tells a story of an imagined evolution.
Star Wars nature documentaries? Sure. Not quite as exciting, but I enjoyed Monster Maze's Life As A Bokoblin mockumentary, so absolutely.

Like I’ve always said, “Star Wars”…is a galaxy. It has ten thousand billion cultures and planets and species all co-existing together in glorious, mixed-up harmony. It has a whole bunch of incredibly amazing and imaginative and wonderful creature designs waiting to be used.

Sadly, that is not correct. Since the beginning of the history of the Star Wars galaxies, there have been wars between peoples, cultures and factions. Even in the old republic there were always civil wars for various reasons.

These are the shows I've always wanted to see personally.
    1. A show about Sifo-Dyas' commissioning of the clone army.
Sifo-Dyas' role in the clone wars had been largely unexplored in the current EU, so I think he could be an interesting blank slate of a character to use to explore the events running up to the prequels in a dedicated TV series. Think of it of the prequels "Better Call Saul", exploring the transformation and eventual fate of a background character, while simultaneously filling in gaps from the prequels such as why Count Dooku turned to the dark side and how Palpatine managed to kill Plaguies and got into politics.
    2. A show about a sith that turns to the light side.
Basically the Force Unleashed as a TV show. Always thought there is an over abundance of stories about jedi that turn to the dark side and not enough about sith that turn to the light, so a story about Vader's apprentice becoming disillusioned with the Empire and turning to the light has a lot of potential.
    3. A show about a droid revolt.
The droids always get the short end of the stick in Star Wars, always getting abused or forced to do manual labour. It would be nice to have a show featuring all of everyone's beloved droids from the movies and TV shows take part in some kind of uprising.
    4. A show about Yoda founding on the Jedi Temple.
Considering how old Yoda is supposed to be when we see him, I think it would make sense for him to have played a part in the creation of the jedi order and the building of the temple. It could also be a great opportunity to get more information about the backstory of Yoda's species and other members of his species, like Yaddle.
    5. An Admiral Ackbar show.
Seriously, a show where Ackbar has his own ship and goes on space missions with a ragtag crew would be awesome! The non-human characters of Star Wars should get the spotlight more often.

These are all really good ideas. I’d also be really interested in a show about the creation of the clones. Yoda founding the Jedi order is also something I’d watch, but unfortunately Yoda lived 900 years while the Jedi Order is about 25 thousand years old. There is actually a movie in the works that’s about the founding of the Jedi order, and who knows, maybe we’ll see one of Yoda’s species (in legends there r Jedi who r from Yoda’s species). I also agree that it’d be really awesome to see space mission types of shows. Like Akbar, or even with a new cast of characters

Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka Tano have both walked away from the whole Jedi/Sith stuff. Ahsoka goes through something like you're describing in her book Ahsoka, and Asajj has been on both sides on the equation.

    • @djmcbratney
      @djmcbratney 2 місяці тому +1

I thought of Ahsoka immediately too, and I think that's her character brief, but then there's the execution. I mean, Ahsoka's time in Rebels and her titular series has her behaving not worlds away from Kanan in terms of being an isolated remnant of the Jedi in the "modern" world, and then the show has her reconcile with her dead Jedi mentor and beats her into taking a new apprentice to train as a Padawan. She just has the distinction of having fallen out with the council a week before they were all killed off anyway. Her white lightsabers are big talk thematically but the fiction never backs it up IMO.

for the imperial bureaucracy show - are you familiar with Dropout's "Troopers"? it's very similar to that pitch, in a parody universe to Star Wars. it went through several reboots, first being a low budget live action, then an animated show, then a high budget live action this time with actual plot. and it was hilarious in all three iterations.

  • @Duraffinity

I like the idea of a focus on a band in space, like something crossed between Spinal Tap, the Monkees, and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. And while they have their own interesting dynamics and drama, maybe there's something very Star-Warsy happening in the background. Like, they're playing at an event and a lightsaber fight breaks out, but they just roll their eyes and keep playing anyway.

I think Ahsoka had passion behind it since Dave Filoni created or cocreated the character years ago and then became the showrunner of Ahsoka.

  • @EvelynMadisonFaust
    @EvelynMadisonFaust 2 місяці тому +6

My pitch is more of a short film/stand-alone episode of a larger anthology series: it's basically a slasher film set in the "Star Wars" universe.
So you have a spaceship full of merchants that ferry goods from one imperial outpost to another, say a crew of around 20 or so people, almost none of them are soldiers (maybe a few guardsmen but no stormtroopers) and only a few are trained to even handle a gun. These guys aren't well protected but they don't need to be due to their frequent proximity to imperial ships that can easily fight off any would-be pirates.
One day the ship that they were delivering to has mysteriously gone dark and after several failed attempts to communicate they make port anyway. This turns out to be a grave mistake as everyone on the imperial ship has been murdered by what turns out to be a rogue Sith lord. He doesn't talk, you never see his face, you don't know ANYTHING about him. He's just going around killing everything in his wake like a madman, and he just won't stop.
The merchants try to get away but now he's on their ship, killing them all off one by one, eventually we are left with a handful of characters who try to make a get-away on a small escape vessel, but he's already there on the vessel with them! They crash land on an abandoned colony desert planet and only the final girl survives the crash, but the Sith.... is still... alive....
Our final girl runs away out into the desert where there's a raging red sand storm, she can't see anything around her -- the occasional flash of red -- the sound of a lightsaber -- a dark shape in the distance slowly approaching her -- after some minutes she makes it to an abandoned base on the planet to call for rescue, but before she can, he attacks. She eventually is able to get a lucky upper hand and uses his own lightsaber to stab him right in the head. He's finally dead.
She gets rescued, but the Sith's body (and his lightsaber) are nowhere to be found.
This is probably WAY too scary an idea for Disney to ever do, but it does have the advantage of being lightsaber violence -- thus completely devoid of blood or gore -- it would focus more instead on the building tension and the sense of unease and isolation in the middle of space.

I know you have no plans to watch Clone Wars but I'd be remiss not to mention that the character Asajj Ventress from that show is, at the current state of her arc, literally the exact "ex-Jedi and ex-Sith now a wandering unaffiliated badass annoyed by their moral compass and sick of getting dragged into people's problems" you described at the end. Like, if I didn't know any better I'd think you'd seen Clone Wars and another very recent Star Wars entry that I won't name bc spoilers and were jokingly describing her without using her name. That appearance did also possibly indicate she'll be getting her own series, but I imagine that will tie too much into Clone Wars for your liking.
I should also add that since Clone Wars is an anthology, not all the stories are particularly connected to others and many of them follow clone troopers, bounty hunters or even politicians rather than Jedi and Sith. So some of those individual stories may still be accessible to you.
The four-episode Umbara Arc in Season 4 is a fan-favourite story about a clone legion usually led by Anakin Skywalker (who treats them all as valued friends) being put under the command of a desensitized, brutish and uncaring Jedi general in Anakin's absence. The story is told from the clones' perspective, putting their Jedi leader in an antagonistic role, and exploring the individuality of the clones as they struggle amongst themselves with what it means to be a good soldier and how to deal with being treated as inferior, dispensable beings - it was definitely intended as allegorical for the Vietnam War in particular, and arguably the Battle of the Somme from WWI.
Most of the clones in the story are returning characters but their past adventures don't factor in so I imagine it's perfectly accessible to someone who hasn't seen the rest of the show, unlike The Bad Batch. Definitely worth checking out if you find the time and feel like seeing a rather unique Star Wars story. In terms of tone it was the closest thing Star Wars Canon had to Rogue One and Andor before Rogue One and Andor happened.

This all the way. Clone Wars is one of the coolest things Star Wars ever did. While it’s far from perfect (especially toward the beginning), I think it’s something that is more interesting and varied than the main Skywalker Saga series, and even the pickups of those ideas in the live action shows.
Slight spoilers for Clone Wars, but Ashoka herself could also be said to fall into this idea of a disillusioned Jedi who is similar in concept to what Vera described.

How about a Star Wars version of The A-Team? Four Jedi cast out of the Order for crimes they didn’t commit. No, they can’t use lightsabers anymore, but you can’t take their other Force abilities from them. If you’re in trouble. If no one else can help. And if you can find them, then you might hire the J-Team!

I love the band/slice of life idea. I'm picturing it similar to the show "High Maintenance." The band serves as the connective tissue but any episode might be about the band, or it might be about a couple's day that ends with them at a cantina the band happens to be performing at in the background.

Something I’ve wanted for a while is a Star Wars anthology series where each episode focuses on a different character from around the galaxy.

I am absolutely, 100% with you on that last one. The promise of The Mandalorian, before it turned into Lone Wolf and Cub, was a Star Wars version of The Man with No Name and I still want that. Making that character a completely unaligned, ronin, gray Jedi would be amazing.

  • @OtterlyChaoticProductions

Honestly, something that I want to see that Solo could have done but didn't is a buddy crime comedy/drama in space. It can be during the main era, but the pitch I would make is "five con artists stop the Empire, one job at a time" but also have some episodes be as low-stakes as "yeah, this section of a singular planet one of the main characters has ties to is being exploited for resources and they need to save it by bankrupting the head of the project" all the way to "yeah, we are literally trying to con one of the higher-ups into making a battleship with a whole ton of fatal flaws, but we would never go for the Emperor or his direct goonies." The core, however, is just fun. It's Robin Hood. In space. And yeah, considering that we don't see everything the Empire can do, why don't we have a time loop episode? Or an episode where they trick people into thinking they've traveled back in time? Let's explore that. And also the galaxy.

  • @otakubullfrog1665

The biggest practical limitation that I can see for Star Wars shows is that, because of how expensive they are, they really need to bring in most or all of the Star Wars audience to work financially and, while something like a show about a band in a galaxy far, far away could be interesting, I'm not sure that it would bring everybody to the table (the pod-racing show seems like a fairly good bet in that respect, though). EU novels have always had a lot of freedom to try out all sorts of ideas since they don't cost much to produce, but there's a good part of the audience that will never experience them because they just don't think of Star Wars as something that you're supposed to read.

Personally I’d love a Pirates of the Carribean-esque show or movie. Not delving into the complex underworld stuff like you were talking about, but something with a much lighter and almost campy tone. Kind of like Solo but with more treasure hunting and less recognizable characters (though I wouldn’t be opposed to Hondo being in it).

I think the idea from 80s cartoon Droids might make an interesting show along what you're asking. Its C3p0 and R2 wandering from place to place meeting new masters and experiencing the empire inbtween whenever r2 first met Obiwan and meeting Leia in a new hope. It doesn't have to be the main two Droids from the Skywalker movies. There's room for comedic silliness and the occasional heavier episode.

I’m imagining a variation of that last pitch as Apocalypse Now but in space. Maybe it focuses on a Jedi who is sent to deal with the rogue Jedi on behalf of the council. They have to travel from planet to planet through all these cool landscapes, maybe they run into a Sith who was also sent to take out the rogue Jedi. Maybe the main character Jedi and the sith have to work together and maybe by the end of the series they start questioning their respective organizations and have to decide if they’ll complete their mission or join the rogue Jedi. I don’t know if that makes sense, but I think it would be a great limited series

The first step to reinvigorating Star Wars (aside from disavowing the sequels, obviously) is to get out of the overplayed movie era. Start fresh with a new era, like KotOR and Legacy did years ago.

  • @insilencea4599

It's too bad they didn't take the opportunity to do something like this with Mara Jade from the novels. A special agent of the Emperor, who was Force sensitive but who he never tried to turn into a Sith, who ended up cut off from her powers and at loose ends after his death, working on the fringes of the underworld because her identity had been a complete secret, so that was the only work she could get. If they didn't want her story to intersect with the main film characters in the new canon like it did in the books, they could have used the chance to explore a different part of the universe, one connected with both the Empire and major smuggling organizations. Still, it might have just been The Mandalorian, but with a lesser-known character. The point is, you're absolutely right about the universe being big enough for more creative projects. I see the same thing happening with the Lord of the Rings franchise, decision makers thinking people want the same thing again when what many of us want is different things in the same world. That's my little rant over.🖖

Of the ideas you suggested, I like the office in star wars/imperial bureaucracy show idea the most, but, I've thought this might be a good idea for a Star Wars TV show or movie for a while: a story following young jedi in the temple learning about the force Harry Potter style.

  • @kenthomas505
    @kenthomas505 2 місяці тому +1

If it was a movie it would have to be Knights of the Old Republic, hands down. But since we're talking T.V. shows here, how about any of the "Tales from..." books? Jabba's Palace, Mos Eisley Cantina, Bounty Hunters, the Empire, and the New Republic... how many series and episodes could you get off of just those alone? And those tales are focused on the background characters, not the famous ones, perfect for what Vera's looking for.
Another possibility could be some of the stores from "A Certain Point of View" books. They take different angles on the established events from the Original Trilogy. Make them in an animated show. There's tons of stories to choose from with either option, and they would be interesting to watch for most fans. That would be a good place to start from I'd say.

Oh honestly, one of my dream Star Wars projects that I would absolutely just love would be if they basically did a Star Wars version of Black Adler. Where it's this it's higher genetic line through multiple historical. And Star Wars. Where the main character played by the same actor is always constantly on the wrong side of history and has to deal with the insane bureaucracy and evil of that side while maintaining his own sanity. So like it would start off with like dim the despot and having to do with those crazy pirates than his next generation of Ken would end up as a government bureaucrat that is trying to manage the planet after it gets taken over by the sith during the sith Wars then his descendant becomes a nile trying to deal with the insanity of the Marauders. That descendant then ends up involved in the trade federation and gets then involved in the separatist war than their descendant ends up working in the insane bureaucracy that is the empire. What then his son or daughter turns over a new leaf and is now part of the banal bureaucracy of the galactic Republic and then that person's kid were bells against them and joins the first order and deals with that shit show. And it's all played by the same actor and it's just a dark comedy and I would fucking love it.

That "depths of the Imperial bureaucracy" idea brings to mind the old series "Yes, Minister" from here in the UK. As you may know, the focus is on the staff of a particular Minister in the low-mid levels of the UK government, who have held the positions for years and served successive bosses, thus they know how to play the system and look busy without letting anything important actually get done

I'd be more interested in a Force User who _isn't_ a Jedi or a Sith than Jedi vs Sith stuff. Someone who comes to realize their abilities on their own, having to deal with their powers in a context where no one knows what's going on with them. Give me - Well, I suppose don't aim it at me, I'm in my late 30s, aim it at 10-12-year-olds, 15-year-olds at a push - But make a Superpowers As Puberty Metaphor show in Star Wars using the Force. (...Though, ideally, do one of those that has nothing to do with any established IP or which is a reboot that's not connected to a Franchise other than itself - Eh, I suppose we're only about 5-10 years off of the next Tomorrow People reboot if the last one didn't kill the IP entirely because of how mishandled it was, those seem to happen every twenty years (8 seasons from 1973 to 1979, 3 seasons from 1992 to 1995, 1 season in 2013-2014))
(Though the thing I like most about the wandering badass pitch is that it lends itself to episodic storytelling in a way a lot of shows just... Aren't interested in doing these days. Like, I like serialised storytelling, but I also like episodic and the balance feels far too far on the serialised side of things right now)

And I want the A-plot to always be some petty drama between the band members and the B-plot is a standard pre-battle Star Wars story, political thriller intrigue happening in the background that they are trying not to get involved in. And it’s a trope that they always leave before the fighting starts.

I will also say that it's funny because it was one of the inspiration for Star Wars that Disney and to be honest, a certain chunk of fans feel like that Star Wars should really stay away from politics and religion when Dune has proven otherwise. And honestly out of all the shows and it's my favorite shit and it's actually touched on in the comics and movies. I would absolutely love if they did a Star Wars show or movie. That was about the first hell even about the Jedi and sith, but let's actually explore them like a real religion. Hell my fantasy about the new Ray movie that they'll never do is the revelation which they kind of hinted out with ahsoka that maybe in the beginning of the galaxy the galaxy was colonized by a bunch of other creatures and people, including humans from other galaxies, bringing all of their different diverse force religions. But then it manifests into the Jedi and the Jedi turning into the sith was inevitable so they just went fuck it and left the galaxy. Now that Ray has basically wiped out the sith and the Jedi or almost nothing, they've now started to come back. So like here's Ray thinking okay. I have to rebuild the Jedi order. How the hell do I do that? But because I'm a force user I'm on the top of the food chain only. They get smacked down by these radically different force users that aren't anything like the Jedi or sith would be absolutely fascinating. It would even be interesting too because these other factions aren't good or evil. So the audience is constantly questioning of who do you trust? What's everyone's motive? What's going on?. Absolutely love it!!

I guess this is more of a movie than a show or miniseries, just because the scope is smaller. Casablanca, but on Cloud City just before ESB. Lando isn't Bogart's Rick, he's Claude Rains's Captain Renault. "I am shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here."

I want live action Taka Jamoreesa. I want a Nightsisters/Dathomiri-focused story. I really want stories about obscure Force traditions like the Aing Ti. And I want some Old Republic era stories, preferably focusing on the Sith Empire prior to the Rule of Two, not for the lightsabers but for the political intrigue and obscure Force powers. Give me something like House of the Dragon in space. Give me some Sith who follow the Sith Code but aren’t actually anywhere close to evil and team up with, say, a Fallanassi and a Voss Mystic to stop another Hyperspace War in between excavating ancient Rakata relics, kind of like Star Wars meets Indians Jones.

I wish Disney could understand how vast Star Wars could actually be. Every show we've gotten, even the good one's, have been very focused on things we've already seen. Jedi, the force, old characters, nostalgia. I wish they could tell a much smaller story, or heck tell a big grand story that takes place many years in the future. There's so much potential in this world but they continue to box themselves in. I know Michael Scott is there as a joke in the thumbnail but how funny would a Star Wars sitcom be? It could be on a random Star Destroyer about the lives of some Storm Troopers and other imperial workers. That would actually be really cool to see!

    • @jordanwhite352

The core problem which is part the company's fault and part the fan base unfortunately... Is that when they tried to experiment with the last Jedi which was supposed to be their big huge experiment, everyone fucking hated it. And then when they did a baby version of an existing character with grogo and filled a ton of references with the mandalorian and everyone in their mom love that show it unfortunately sealed Star Wars fate. As I am also someone who thinks that the stories way too much rely on the Skywalker saga and way too much rely on the Jedi which frustrates me because I would love to have an exploration of the philosophy and religion of the Jedi in the same way Dune explored that in their universe. The problem is is that the audience spoke. They just want Luke and Darth Vader doing crazy explosion stunts like John Wick style but Star Wars and the whole Star Wars universe's poor for it. Exactly why? I always tell people that if they want to see what Star Wars truly can be right now to get into the comic books and the novels because that's where a lot of the real experimentation is and it's glorious. Books that entirely focused on starfighters which is something that I've been wanting since the amazing battle in rogue One. You have stories based on ground soldiers from both sides. Different eras, different philosophies, myths and legends. A bounty hunters smugglers musicians. That's where unfortunately gets really creative because most Americans and global consumers just don't read books and comic books so Disney doesn't focus on them. They do watch a fucked on a TV and movies and that's why those films are bland because they're constantly product testing and the audience keeps saying. Please fill me up with more shit.

Just always thought that was wasted potential.

There definitely was passion behind Ahsoka. It is basically a love letter to Rebels and Clone Wars, but it does do some interesting stuff.
Ahsoka and Ray Stevenson’s character (Baylon Skul) are like two sides of the same coin, both are former Jedi who are trying to find their place without the doctrine they once followed. Baylon has embraced darkness, but has not become full sith, whilst Ahsoka is trying to continue with the code, but in her own way. Both have their own padawans whom they are passing on their own, new ideas for what a Jedi should be…. Unfortunately I can’t imagine it will be anywhere near as interesting without Ray Stevenson stealing every scene.

I think it would be good to have smaller side shows like this to freshen up the galaxy a bit, but I think what Star Wars is missing in terms of a narrative direction is just continuing on from the original trilogy in an interesting way that develops the world without reling on something else. I think that's why Mandolorian originally resonated and why all the most interesting things in the current shows are the New Republic. The franchise kinda feels like its hesitating to use characters and stories general audiences are familiar with in favour of building a bunch of new characters and plotlines from the ground up and it honestly feels more messy and directionless than if they had a Leia show with some smaller shows dotted around it.

To continue on the band idea:
The band in question could be made of those enjoyable, morally grey characters, who are happy to play for both the Rebellion and the Empire. For their own safety, they can't disclose that to either side, of course, so they have to keep on coming up with ways to seem very innocent so no one interrogates them.
In one of the novels (disclaimer: I haven't read more than an excerpt from it) one of the clones comes out as a trans woman, so something exploring gender could be fun.
Or, a reality-tv style fashion series. But like, in character (as in not a BTS of the clothing department). "A Day in the Life of the Emperor's Stylist" or something.

My pitch would be a series set 100 years after the events of Rise of Skywalker. That's been one of my big issues; everything is set in the franchise's own past. I want to see something that moves the story forward.
Since they blew up the Republic and First Order there's no real system of government in the galaxy and after a century things would descend into absolute chaos. I think that's a setting worth exploring.
I'd also like to see groups of Force users emerge other than Jedi and the Sith.

She moved on from the Jedi yet feels the influence of her old master who just happens to be Anakin/Vader combing the both to become the Gray Jedi. Combining her story with the Legends EU’s favourite villain is brilliant. BUT yes if you aren’t into either the Clone Wars stuff or the Grand Admiral Thrawn EU stuff then do you care?

I like the Breaking Bad in Space the best. The last one, the Bruce Banner Kung Fu, it's kinda what Ahsoka could've been, but instead that show is live action Rebels Season 5 with a new name. Although Ahsoka never went Sith (she was just framed and not believed by the Jedi Council, excommunicated, then later when exonerated she was like um how about Get F'd and didn't come back to them). That said I think her show gets crapped on unnecessarily. I loved it, but then I watched Clone Wars and Rebels so I understand the lore they're building on and it has very little to do with Jedi or Sith, but tons to do with Light and Dark and the Origins and Nature of the Force itself.

Not so interested in the first or third stories, but the second idea is one I'd really like and had been hoping we'd see with Boba Fett (or at least a mix of a western, mob film, and Star Wars, but more coherent than we got). Fourth might work for me, but - like the third - feels more like a sketch (maybe recurring) in something broader. Frell, you probably could probably put the first, third, and fourth into such a show. Otherwise, they remind me of that rightfully short-lived Powerless show which was just an office sitcom set in the DC universe, which wasn't very good.
Yeah, the wandering Force user show could be interesting, but honestly that's a little similar to what Mandalorian was early on (and I kind of wish it hewed more that direction). Also, "Grey Jedi" bothers me on various levels, but mainly there really is no reason they couldn't just be a Jedi, as they're mostly portrayed this way outside of when they want the big order to be important - just be a Jedi who doesn't associate with the Jedi Order (or give me the Jedi A-Team). At most, it could be like Doctor Who, with the Jedi Order and Time Lords being similar-ish.
I'd also be up for a Space: Above and Beyond-style show about an X-Wing squadron, though I hope that's kind of what the on-again Patty Jenkins Rogue Squadron movie will be.

I dig these ideas, especially the last one...though to fully embrace that premise to its true potential, I feel like they'd have to allow such a protagonist to be shady and irreverent/unidealized to a degree of "doesn't always have to be likable" that I'm not sure the Disney suits would let fly. Think Malcom Reynolds (appropriate consider the mental picture you painted)...Like The Mandalorian obviously wore its Dollars Trilogy influence on its sleeve, with Mando coded as "The Man With No Name in Space"...but it became very quickly apparent that nah, Mando's not *really* as morally gray as TMWNN.

I didn't realize that there were so many streaming shows in the Star Wars universe. That is bit of overkill, but then this is Disney we're talking about. They will milk it for all that it's worth. As for my own opinions on Star Wars, I love the original trilogy but really didn't like Phantom Menace or Attack Of The Clones, Revenge Of The Sith was a lot better but was still lacking something that made the original trilogy so great but I wasn't quite able to put my finger on it at the time. I saw The Force Awakens and thought that it was okay but too long and I was pretty bored with it by the end. I never bothered with the movies that came after that but I'd heard good things about The Mandalorian so I thought I'd give that a go and I love it. I think that it's the first Star Wars show that I've seen since the original trilogy that gets what made those 3 movies work. Phantom Menace leaned too far into trying to be funny but fell flat, Clones, Sith and Awakens went too far in the other direction, but The Mandalorian has the right balance of serious sci-fi and humour. The comedy moments aren't overdone and are believable within the universe, there's no annoying characters and the only bad actor is Gina Carano (and she was good at being a bad ass, just useless at anything else). Then I tried watching The Book Of Boba Fett and I found that it made the same mistake as Clones and Sith in that it did away with the comic relief. In the original trilogy, you had C3PO and R2D2 bickering like an old married couple, Yoda and the snarky comments of Han and Leia, in Mandalorian you have Grogu and Pelli, but everything else seems to miss that aspect as far as I can see. They either tried too hard and failed like with Jar Jar or they just didn't try at all. The original trilogy and Mandalorian don't take themselves too seriously but they're able to be serious when needed. I think that is what any future Star Wars shows need to keep in mind. It's a galaxy of cute and strange aliens and droids.

What about a political drama about running the Republic (be it the old one from the prequels or the new one fighting the First Order in the sequels), like a Star Wars "West Wing." Or maybe it's about an imperial governor who struggles to balance running their sector/planet/whatever as humanely as possible without getting in trouble with the higher-ups?
Also, I suppose the existence of various alien cultures and planets probably presents possibilities for ways a detective murder mystery show could be different in Star Wars from how the same genre is written in more realistic settings. They could be worth trying.
Maybe they should try an anthology show where each episode is essentially a pilot for a different Star Wars show that's really different from what we're used to. That way, a lot of the various different possibilities of Star Wars are explored and if certain episodes turn out to be particularly popular, those ones can get full series.
