    I popped for this one over the Sapphire. The problem with see-through faces in a relatively simple movement like the Sellita SW 200 is there is not that much going on in the front of the watch, and seeing all of the date complication at once just takes away any of the magic of having the data pop up in the window. All of the action is at the back of the watch if you want an exhibition case. So the addition ion of the wave pattern to the dial adds visual interest for me (especially when loomed) and breaks up the monotony of a relatively static action at the front of the caliber. Finally the commitment of Chris Ward to recycling ocean plastic is important to me as a sailor, and the addition of those blue plastic elements on the case gives it some unique and attractive visual interest, for my taste at least. And let's not forget the premium features of 600 meter water resistance and COSC certification. This one is a home run for me.

    I'm a CW fanboy, but even I agree that the sapphire dials are a gimmick. I have the blue 40mm C60, and can recommend it for anyone looking for a slightly flashy, but still versatile diver.
    I'd love to see a review of the C63 GMT. I have a three hander I picked up when the C63 released, and it is one of my favourite watches.

    I'm a sucker for a nice second hand counter balance, the Blue Angle, Ball Engineer, Zenith El Primero. For me, the dial is oddly secondary. Love the shots with your dogs, keep em' coming.

    This is probably my favorite Christopher Ward watch. Great COSC certified watch, 42mm, great sapphire dial, amazing bracelet with tool-less clasp at an amazing price for a chronometer. The tide strap is pretty stiff and I did revert to the bracelet. Now if I can get them to do the orange sapphire in the same watch. I think perhaps you are being awfully hard on an excellent watch.

    I actually have two C65s: the Trident GMT (newest ver) and a Dartmouth. The Dartmouth gets probably more wear time in my wrist and the lume is actually really good. It's a COSC certified diver as well. I was interested in the Tide, but I can actually agree with you on that it seems kinda gimmicky. I will most likely go with the C60 Trident Pro 600 diver and that will satisfy my Chris Ward watch collection.

    I had a c60 40mm in blue on bracelet and a hybrid strap. I always wished I bought the 42mm for some reason the 40mm felt stubby on wrist. Anyway great review C. Ward is doing some cool things but these sapphire dials don’t do it for me.

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  Рік тому +1

      Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that. I think someone's reasoning for things is extremely important, especially on a watch like this. It's a Christopher ward, you know the quality and value is there. Yet why should you pick it over any other Christopher Ward. That's where you need to know the logic and reasoning for someone's opinion.
      Anyway, thanks for watching and take care.

    I bought this watch in early 2022 while I was stuck at home having corona, I've always wanted a great diver and looked at christopher ward for some time, as a friend recommended this brand to me. Sure its a gimmick, but its just so different to other dive watches which have always the same pattern.

      I love it at as well. I though his opinion was entirely too biased for a “professional” review.
      On the wrist, this watch is as eye catching as anything I own and my collection ranges from ball to rolex, with a heavy biased towards grand seiko and omega.
      For the $$, this watch is a steal, and to the non watch enthusiast, it could pass for 20-30k easily.

  • @WeibenWang
    @WeibenWang 2 роки тому +9

    I've had the c60 Sapphire for about a year and a half. That dial caught my attention when I first saw it, and grew on me over months, until I finally bought it as my first, and so far only, diver. I don't much care that it's a diver; I like it because the look is interesting. The dial side of the movement does look strictly utilitarian, but seeing shades of the through the dial makes a tool watch look like a machine, which to me is cool. I have the bracelet and the hybrid strap; I've only ever worn it on the bracelet. It's attractive, well built, comfortable, and has on the fly adjustment, so don't see any need to wear it on anything else. And about the branding, I never would have noticed without all the bleating about it ad nauseam. It bothers me not a jot. The text balances the date. I think it's pleasingly laid out, and people are just stuck on the bog standard layout on every other watch. The strict vertical placement of the Tide looks sterile to me.

    • @MegaVector2011
      @MegaVector2011 2 роки тому

      Some great points there Weiben. I've got the C65 Dartmouth, bought it on it's looks and not the fact it's a diver. I'm don't dive and I doubt that 95% of people that buy divers have ever dived more than the depth of their bath. Took me a while to get used to it, it wears big on the wrist case width wise, but it's very comfortable, slim, well built and well finished. The logo is centred, it says Christopher Ward in some kind of font that looks fine to me. And that's what matters, nobody else cares a hoot what watch you are wearing, the Rolex fanboys should take note, nobody. The fact that the wearer of the watch is happy with it is the number one reason anyone should buy a watch.

  • @MrZanzibar123

    Not for traditionalists but this is a very handsome and striking piece, which subtly stands out in a collection! Indeed, out of all my watches (Rolex, Omega, Longines, Oris, Hamilton, Zelos, Halios), this gets the most wrist time, either on the #Tide strap (which is great after a week or so of break-in) or the bracelet (which is phenomenal and stops it from feeling at all top heavy). That lume lasts all night long for reading the watch. I’m a bit surprised that you didn’t like it more, but you seem to have a more conservative style. That GMT is my second favorite, but too much of a Rolex homage for me to get as excited about. Cheers!

    @pierslloyd 2 роки тому +3

    For me the C60 Tide is a big missed opportunity, and I say it with some competence since I bought one last year. It looks really good and it is well made, but the lume is quite poor and mainly in artificial light conditions performs really really bad. What's the point in creating that beautiful wave or miami pattern on the dial if you need tons of light to see it glowing?? In everyday use you can't see it.

    • @MrScabLifter
      @MrScabLifter 2 роки тому

      That's a real shame to hear. I've had several C60s and have sold them all on. Poor lume was a major factor throughout but I had hoped this one, especially with the website photos of that bezel, would be different.
      As a previous owner, can you explain why it's thicker than a normal 42mm C60? Thanks

    • @pierslloyd
      @pierslloyd 2 роки тому

      @@MrScabLifter I had the same hopes considering the website photos and the fact that the special lumed dial was meant to be the strong point of the watch. Unfortunately the lume, like the others CWs, is quite poor especially under artificial light conditions. I can't understand why a 200$ chinese homage watch or an entry level seiko or orient have much better lume than many many >1000$ Swiss watches. The majority of youtubers utilises uv torch light to perform the lume test but in my opinion it is a wrong way to do it since in real life normally a watch is exposed to standard artificial ambient light and the result is very different

    • @pierslloyd
      @pierslloyd 2 роки тому

      @@MrScabLifter regarding the thickness I guess it is due to the sapphire dial that's thicker than a normal dial. It is an hypothesis but the caliber is the same of others C60 and all other features are the same so I can't see any other reason

    It is not a gimmick. The transparant shappire dial make the dial look through mechanical style background turn the dial into better looking style. It has never been design as open-heart like everyone want to believe where showing some moving gear in front of dial. Not many watch brand try using saphirre dial could make this model among some rare option for the collection list.
    In fact i was looking for this mechanical display dial (not skeleton dial) for quite sometime, and finally some decent watch like CW appear 😅

    I had the first C60 Sapphire Blue in 40mm for maybe about a month before I sold it. I am particular about my blues and it wasn't exactly the tone of blue I was looking for in the dial. Additionally, I personally found it hard to match with straps I had. Something about that specific blue always looked off and didn't quite match with as much as I'd hope.. and I have A LOT of aftermarket strap options. Suffice it to say, the novelty quickly wore off. But, it is a good looking well made watch. But, as you said, it's not for me.
    I imagine the experience with this one you have, the only real differences being size, dial wave texture, and COSC, All don't play a lot into the overall equation as the end result is essentially the same... Nice, but would rather have something else for that kind of money.
