I work in foster care and you’re right about the ICPC situation since you’re out of state, but you don’t need to be licensed for it! At 15 months the state has to decide if reunification or TPR is the plan. I’m not sure if you have access to your brothers guardian at litem, but I highly suggest you try to talk to them! I can't imagine the difficulty if my mom had kept having kids. You are breaking the cycle Yasmyn and are such a wonderful mama and big sister. As a 58 year old I can imagine how proud your grandma is of you! At least she has one area of peace in her heart. I am so glad she is finally closer to you and farther away from the chaos. My Grandma raised me too and she was my best friend. I'm happy your Grandma has you and Logan to look out for her and happy you all have each other. I use to work for the Maryland Office of the Public Defender for child welfare cases. If your relative does not already, I would highly suggest they hire private counsel & file a motion to intervene. You cannot trust that DSS will place him with family over a foster family (unfortunately)
You are the best possible advocate for him and I hope the judge sees that your relative is the right place for him long term. Be kind to yourself, you have to put your own family first so not taking him for now is the right thing, and he's taken care of. So good to see you leading a life your children can be proud of! ❤

I really felt this. My dad fought with his brother for years who was abusing his mom in the same way as your mom to your grandma. Once all the court stuff got handled he ended up passing from an overdose. Addiction ruins lives. 💔

Choices have to made if the family does want him so he doesn’t stay in foster care and get adopted there. I don’t want to be negative I just want to be sure you are doing your research. Your grandma being away for you mom is definitely the right thing. Hopefully the state will get moving on the interstate compact for your Aunt or you so that 18 month mark doesn’t hit. Hang in there you are wise beyond your years. You are doing all you can. Whatever happens it isn’t nor should it be on you. You have a beautiful family. He would be a nice addition. The eviction/court process is soooo long. I had a similar situation with my family. I ended up getting a restraining order against my family member because that was a faster way to get her out. You're not alone.
Also girl hustle with those sponsorships, do what you need to do to get yourself if a good financial situation so that the court is able to see you are more than capable of caring for him if that is what ends up needing to happen. While adopting a child though foster care is great, fostering is about reunification and he has family that is very willing and capable of looking after him. ❤

I understand we’re your coming from I’m the oldest and I basically raised my brother, I don’t go around the family that much to to toxic, but right now I’m going to take care of my mom who is ready to go home from the nursing home and die in her own surroundings.
I took in my great nephew and my niece did the same thing where she picked him to be in the foster system over being with me… he went up for adoption and sadly I had to pass on taking him… I’m a widow and I have a 3 year old and full time career… plus having so much hard in my family.. my mental health couldn’t handle it all… I am so heartbroken that I couldn’t do it…

I went to college in College Park and had to go to court because my landlord wouldn’t fix issues in our house. Prince George’s County is the worst county to deal with for court😅 everything takes so much longer!
This is Maryland sigh...98% sure they will extend the court 6 more months and won't motion to change to termination of parental rights. They give parents soooo many chances and the minute they do one thing...extend it. She has a house contract - oh extend it...she's getting stable housing...sigh. Never mind if she did anything else in the case plan. Meanwhile brother bonds more with foster family and not who he hopefully will be with long term. If no one has done the ICPC- they should start now. Anyone interested in taking him even if that includes getting licensed for foster care. Typically, have to foster 6 months before you adopt (they want to make sure it's a good fit for all) but with courts backed up adoption can take longer. It can take several months to get licensed for foster care so hope everyone is working on that.
After hearing this update I just really hope that your mom being able to purchase a house for herself doesn’t extend your brothers foster stay because I have a feeling that a judge would see home ownership as a step in the right direction for your mom to get your brother back and she clearly shouldn’t get him back. Your grandma honestly should’ve just kept the original court date and let your mom be evicted. I doubt a judge would take kindly to that.
I hope the court allows you or your relative to adopt your brother. It would be silly for him to be with strangers and miss out on growing up with his siblings, nieces, Gran and other family.

I don't know if I would say her mother is a terrible person , but more that the drugs she is on controls her life and wished there was more to help addicts get clean and stay clean. this is a disease and its terrible ! But what do I know lol

You are possibly right that she is not a terrible person but she is choosing drugs constantly over her kids she is in my opinion a dangerous to be around her daughters and son and granddaughters but hey maybe she can change one day but by then will the damage already be done

I was saying a lot of good people have turned their life to drugs its a disease it doesn't make her a terrible person I hope she gets the help she needs . some do change others don't they keep going until they OD , The damage has already been done with the older kids but here is praying for the family !
