Dr. Aliabadi on Dr. Phil: Warns Heroin Dependent Mom-To-Be - Part 1

Teresa is 34 weeks pregnant and says she has been dependent on heroin for years. Admitting that she has not been able to stop using during her pregnancy, Teresa says she doesn’t want to do any more damage to her unborn child than she already has.
“This baby is already an addict,” says Psychiatrist and retired Medical Director for the Los Angeles County Department Of Child And Family Services, Dr. Charles Sophy. He warns Teresa that, because of her continued drug use, her baby will almost certainly experience withdrawals as well as experience probable cognitive or developmental delays.
OB-GYN Dr. Thaïs Aliabadi also weighs in on Teresa’s continued drug use throughout her pregnancy. Watch the video above to hear why she says, “Quitting cold-turkey is not an option right now.”
