- In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Leonardo de Vinci was 40 years old when this happened. This must have been like the moon landing back in 1492 to discover a new land on earth. We went to the actual spot where these three ships disembarked on their discovery mission from the town of Palos de la Frontera where we also ate dinner. The ships are just replicas but very good ones. The is the 525th anniversary of their mission. The museum is very interesting with some of Christopher's diary to read. He describes the people he met on the islands of the Bahamas.
thank you, that was fun, I am from Boston and saw them when I was in 3rd grade. At that time they had a case with the dental Dr tools. I have a lot of respect for people at that time. Amazing to think 30ty something men to each ship. Mostly crew. Mad respect for people. We are so sheltered
thanks, that was awesome tour.
It is awesome to go to the exact spot where Columbus sailed from. How much the world has changed since that expedition.
Now imagine using a canoe your whole life, and you see that monstrosity coming over the horizon.
Lol, imagine the hms victory compared to that!

Those were actually small ships for the time. Not intented to be large. Just fast, exploration ones.
Nice video!
Que Viva la Hispanidad!
Somehow, they seem both much larger and much smaller than I thought they would be
I know what you mean. They look like miniature large ships. 1492 technology.
Vangelis music intensifies.
The replica Mayflower near me isn't much bigger and wouldn't want to sail it down Cape Cod Canal never mind across the ocean.
Is this in Spain? I would love to visit someday.
Yes, it is the exact location where the ships disembarked from. Very cool. www.google.com/maps/place/21810+Palos+de+la+Frontera,+Huelva,+Spain/@37.2007053,-6.9265433,12.61z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0xd11da2ff9c42109:0x40463fd8ca09850!8m2!3d37.2288942!4d-6.8954258
Is this palos de moguer?
The next time you shoot something like that, hold the frame for more than 2-3 seconds, there are details on those boats that are more beautiful than fat tourists.
Yes, funky camera with no image stabilization.
I want to go there

Я моряк но у меня голова закружилась от вашего дергания камерой все было очень интересно особенно карусель
Lol, yes, sorry. That camera did not have image stabilization. What part is the carousel?
I can just imagine the Indians investigating these ships in amazement for days on end when they arrived.
they thought the gods arrived….
and they did
Are thoses the orginal ships they look really old thanks for filming
No, they are very accurate replicas.
Here is a good video, although in Spanish, of the 525th year celebration and how they built the ships. ua-cam.com/video/zZS1y5DA85c/v-deo.html
Its over where i live at the moment florence alabama usa
Crazy. I wonder how they "shipped" it over there?
Thank you for posting. It's insanity if you ask me!
Sorry for the shaky video. No stabilization on that camera. It was cool though to see the size of those small ships. Very brave and experienced sailors for sure.
@@millstap I just noticed in Wikipedia that the actual size of the ship is no known and there are several replicas. The largest one is 100 feet long. That might not be as bad for a long trip but I still think it was madness.
@@ugaugauga488 Yes, the Santa Maria was the largest and the other two smaller. Just having enough healthy food and water to make it was a feat in itself because they didn’t know exactly how long it would take. Then when everyone panics, the mutiny ensues. Not for the faint of heart for sure.
🎶 SANTAAAAA MARIAAAAAAAA🎶
Para esto hemos quedado, que pena.

The really name .is cristobal colon.in Spanish
Cristofero Colombo? He was Italian (Jewish).
A los espanyoles de esa epoca se les podra acusar de muchas cosas menos de cobardes, hay que estar muy "loco" para atravesar el Atlantico por primera vez y sin cartas de navegacion.
Buen video y bienvenidos a Espanya.
