Absolutely love this song ! .. Didn't realise until much later that the Bee Gees wrote it .. Can't believe how many classics they wrote, both for themselves and others .. They were freakish ! .. By the way, the gorgeous Yvonne Elliman sings this brilliantly .. You should watch her sometime in "Jesus Christ Superstar", playing and singing the part of Mary Magdalene .. Cheers, Wayne
This song was written by The Bee Gees and was the B-side of “Stayin’ Alive”, that came out a few weeks after this recording of the song by Yvonne Elliman in ‘77 which gave the song double exposure for the onslaught of fans from the Saturday Night Fever film.
@@LilRocker2005 It was The Bee Gees version that is the B-side of their “Staying Alive”, the production staff of the film insisted that Yvonne’s recording be used in the film. The B-side relegation on “Staying Alive” was rarely played on jukeboxes as Yvonne’s was right there too Back in the day. Few had any idea the Gibb brothers penned the song, even years later.
She has always been a Favorite. She emotes such emotion. She has had a varied career from Eric Clapton to Jesus Christ Superstar to The Bee Gees and Her solo career. This beautiful Woman has always been highly underrated
An absolute MONSTER HIT from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. This song DOMINATED the US radio airwaves in 1977... Today, you can still hear "I Can't Have You." played at a wedding when a DJ want to get people up and on the dance floor. A MONSTER HIT!!!!!!!!
Another huge #1 record written by the Bee Gees. Taken from the multimillion selling gigantic #1 Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack album. Sure brings back some great memories! Love it! ♥️🎼🎵🎶🇨🇦
I love this song and others of the time because as a musician I can hear the great attention to detail to the arrangement of the music. The orchestra which made it all that beautiful with the strings the horns, it's very much in sync with the rhythm section and her vocals. I believe that Yvonne Elliman, even though the song has a bit of "I want you" in the lyrics The speed of the track and the melody hit it right on the spot. Thank you HarriBest Reactions for the opportunity to share our thoughts.
Peak disco! 1977, written by the Bee Gees, yes, Saturday Night Fever. Takes me back to hearing this on the radio as a ten year old kid back when. Yvonne Elliman also landed in the top-40 in 1971 with "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
The Bee Gees wrote this, it was used for Saturday Night Fever soundtrack where (ya von) Yvonne Elliman did it. However, the Bee Gees also recorded it and would perform it occasionally at concerts and appearances.
Just like More than a Woman, this was given to basically a unknown artist by the BeeGees for SNF. They already had most of the songs written when Stigwood gave them the script for the movie. They didn't want to burn out, at one time they had 5 songs in top 10. I absolutely love the Bee Gees!
They never wrote those songs for SNF. They were recording their next album in France. When Stigwood asked them for music for the film, they sent him what they'd already recorded and said see if any of these will work.
She had a few hits this being the biggest from Saturday night fever she toured with Eric Clapton too she won a Grammy for this and now she's touring with ted neeley from superstar singing her songs and superstar songs
She had an earlier hit with another Bee Gees cover, "Love Me." Yvonne spent several years in the early '70s singing back-up for Eric Clapton (and they carried on a bit as well).

She does have back up singers on a different video. This song was featured in Saturday Night Fever. Great reaction!!!
I saw her one night as a backing vocalist for Eric Clapton during the Hello Old Friend tour. She & Marcy Levy provided great vocals all night long. Of course this was a part of the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack. The song went to #1 as did almost everything else released from that movie. The Bee Gees as writers were as hot as they ever got. Julia Tillman Waters, Marti McCall, Maxine Willard Waters - backing vocals

My second favorite song from the Saturday Night Fever album. Thanks for reacting to a song few people react to, although every time a reactor does anything from the SNF album I always recommend this tune. Yvonne Elliman also did another great BeeGee's song called "Love Me". Give that a listen as well.

@HarriBest, I got to see Yvonne on the Broadway stage in Jesus Christ Superstar, back in the day. Listen to "I Don't Know How To Love Him" which is from that show. She was a show-stopper!! Here's a link to the movie version that she sings ua-cam.com/video/lS2nX4fuzqc/v-deo.html
Originally from Hawaii, Yvonne ended up w/for Eric Clapton in early-70s. It was while she was w/Clapton that she landed the part of Mary Magdalene in Broadway production of "Jesus Christ, Superstar" Which, in turn, led her to portray Mary in film adaptation. Checkout her singing "I Don't Know How To Love Him" on original soundtrack, Hello Stranger, Love Me, I Can't Get You Outta My Mind & Savannah. OUTSTANDING references!
As some has written it was written by The Bee Gees. The Yvonne version of the song was indeed featured on SNF. It went number 1 in the US. The Bee Gees also did their own version of it. Try to react to that one. It was first released as a B side to their Stayin' Alive single and then on their Greatest double album in 1979.
Another great Bee Gees song. I think you'll find the back up vocals are again the Bee Gees. She was Mary Magdalene in Jesus Christ Superstar movie. Great voice. I think she did Love Me as well...another Bee Gees song.
FYI....Yvonne originated the original Mary Magdalene in the Broadway production, which carried over onto the silver screen. Also checkout "Hello Stranger" & "I Don't Know How To Love Him". They should have included "Hello Stranger" in both productions...EMOTIONAL Gut Check!
Her name is pronounced like, E-Vahn Ella-man and Harri, my friend, you HAVE to see the rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar . She plays the part of Mary Magdalene on the album, in the movie and the Broadway play. She quite possibly will make you cry. Now, it's funny, you mentioning her "fresh face", considering the part she played in the movie/play/album. I forgot to mention, the lead singer for Deep Purple, Ian Gillan also did the part of Jesus in the album version, and I KNOW you like his singing and really high "scream-singing". He does an awesome job.
Yvonne Ellimen went to high school in Hawaii with my aunt. She has a lot of great songs. Yes this was in Saturday Night Fever. Some older friends took me to the movie when it came out in Hawaii. The scene with this song in SNF, I believe they were in a strip club, first time I ever saw a topless dancer. I was 12.. 😳
@@gypsygirl3255 I agree. Although I, personally, prefer Ian Gillan and the Broadway version. I don't like the movie. But it's just me. Yvonne Elliman, thought, has the sexiest, sultriest voice ever. And she is so incredibly beautiful!
The bros. Gibb were in France (recording studio in a dark Chateau), building up the follower-album to 'Children Of The World'. Their manager, Robert Stigwood, dropped in and asked them if they would have some songs for a movie, called 'Tribal Rights Of A Saturday Night'. Just an afternoon before, they wrote in one row (believe it or not) the songs 'More Than A Woman', 'Staying Alive', 'If I Can't Have You' and 'Night Fever'. Hearing the demos, Robert said, that's exactly what I need. Barry told him, the movie-title is way to obscure (was the name of an article, brought out in a New York newspaper). Based on their song 'Night Fever', he said, what's about 'Saturday Night Fever'. And so the Bee Gees not only created the major parts of that record-brakin' album, they also were (Barry) giving the movie-name, which was infact a killa.
IDK why it was so funny but years ago i got my car detailed and this disc was in the car & the 2 guys were laughing & one saw me looking at them and held up the case and laughed in my face
Harri, I rank Yvonne among my Top 5 favorite female voices of all time! This song was written by The Bee Gees explicitly for her to sing on the Saturday Night Fever film soundtrack. Yeah, she was a pretty one! And kinda like Stevie Nicks, the breathiness to her voice really gets to me. Did you ever see the '73 movie/musical, Jesus Christ Superstar? If so, then you've seen an even younger Yvonne, as Mary Magdalene.
She sang backup on at least one album for Eric Clapton who had the same manager as The Bee Gees. Please react to another Gibb song she recorded called LOVE ME. You might also be interested in the Jimmy Ruffin - Marcy Levy duet of WHERE DO I GO, which is another Gibb song that fans are dying for the Bee Gees version of to be released. Marcy Levy and Yvonne Elliman sang backup together for Eric Clapton.
Well, a little bit more information about this beautiful girl is in order. I think you'll find this interesting ... As I mentioned earlier, she played Mary Magdalene in the Rock Opera Jesus Christ Superstar (JCS). In fact, she and Barry Dennen (Pontius Pilate) were the ONLY 2 cast members to have performed on the original record, original Broadway production and the film. Her screen performance as Mary Magdalene led to a 1974 Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. She scored 2 hit records from the album version of JCS, I Don't Know How to Love Him and (minor hit) Everything's Alright. She later went on to be a backup singer for Eric Clapton for a fairly longtime (1974-1977). You can definitely hear her on his song, I Shot the Sheriff. Later, she moved on to solo work and charted some pretty great hits ... of course, the one you just listened to, and a great song that I KNOW you'd love, Hello Stranger (ua-cam.com/video/J1YZbAdP-zE/v-deo.html ). The Bee Gees actually wrote How Deep Is Your Love for her, but the owner of the recording company (RSO), wanted them to do it. So, instead, she did another of her huge hit singles ... yep, you guessed it, this one !!! She took it to #1. Her husband at the time, BTW, was the President of RSO.
Do a search for "Yvonne Elliman -- If I Can´t Have You Live Video HQ". That will at least give you a glimpse of the other performers - best version IMO.
She originated the role of Mary Magdalene on the original London production of Jesus Christ Superstar. You should react to her singing "I Don't Know How To Love Him." She always makes me cry when I watch her perform it in the movie version, even though I've seen it about 20 or 30 times.
I'd been a staunch admirer and avid fanboy since the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' album, and saw her with Eric Clapton on his 461 Ocean Blvd. tour. A terrific voice and an appealing performer and presence. I remember this and the JCS tunes, not sure beyond that.
Treat yourself to the movie clip from the 1973 movie "Jesus Christ Superstar" with Yvonne Elliman (as Mary Magdalene) singing the heartbreaking ballad "I Don't Know How to Love Him," which was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Love this song and love her. Saw an interview with her awhile back, she's much more accomplished than i knew and came across as a smart, funny, still talented lady. 🎶🎵 In the interview, I believe she said the BeeGees offered her this song or another (can't remember which one) and she chose this one.
You should do songs from the original "Jesus Christ Suoerstar" LP. Great album. The I liked "Could we start again, please?" It was added for the movie. But the original Broadway cast is way better than the movie cast!
Love Yvonne! She was brilliant in "Jesus Christ Superstar." Play her version of "I Don't Know How to Love Him." I know the Bee Gees wrote this song but I actually prefer her version.

U must know this song!! Did u watch Saturday Night Fever!??
She originated the role of Mary Magdalene on the original London production of Jesus Christ Superstar. You should react to her singing "I Don't Know How To Love Him." She always makes me cry when I watch her perform it in the movie version, even though I've seen it about 20 or 30 times.
I'd been a staunch admirer and avid fanboy since the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' album, and saw her with Eric Clapton on his 461 Ocean Blvd. tour. A terrific voice and an appealing performer and presence. I remember this and the
JCS tunes, not sure beyond that.
Yvonne's other big hit was "I Don't Know How To Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar.
In the interview, I believe she said the BeeGees offered her this song or another (can't remember which one) and she chose this one.
First Japanese to win a Grammy
You should do songs from the original "Jesus Christ Suoerstar" LP. Great album. The I liked "Could we start again, please?" It was added for the movie. But the original Broadway cast is way better than the movie cast!
She did a lot of back up work with Eric Clapton.
Hey man...please start doing more of the no. 1 Karen Carpenter!!!
Love Yvonne! Please my Brother, do anything from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, especially Yvonne's part..
Beautiful voice and lady. I prefer the Bee Gees version
Love Yvonne! She was brilliant in "Jesus Christ Superstar." Play her version of "I Don't Know How to Love Him." I know the Bee Gees wrote this song but I actually prefer her version.
