So glad these guys are still writing music. Been a fan since 1999, and they are hands down my all time favorite band. They may not have the energy they used to have, but they still have the passion and creativity and you can still feel that in their music. Also, Chuck is probably the most genuine nice dude I have ever met. If any of you ever get a chance to see this band live, do it!
I was going through a pretty rough time when a friend invited me to see HWM live a few months ago and they changed my life forever. Whenever I'm about to have a panic attack or feel like giving up this song and habitual just help me out. I can't believe how lucky I was to learn about this band live and all I can say is thank you for existing, saved me at least.
100%!!! Knew they existed, but I’d never given them a proper listen until 5 months ago when my own life pretty much disintegrated. The 2 songs you named, + “Drag My Body”, have been a few key reasons I’m even still breathing to this point. Stay strong!!!
First time listener. Didn't expect Rise to have an act like this. I love their lyricism. Looking at the other comments, seems like this was a long time coming. Glad the first single is a strong start :D
They've had a good variety of different bands on the label. Knuckle puck, Sharks, TSOL, bunch of stuff. It just gets ignored compared to the metal core stuff
Been a fan since day one and played countless shows with them. One of the things that made HWM so epic was their free form creativity and complexity. Lyrically phenomenal and the best bass/drum duo of all time imho. I'm not so into this newer clean and polished cookie cutter song structure. I'm sure it's for the label and that their live shows are as bad ass as always, but, I'm hesitant to buy a full album if I'm not getting that real HWM, one of kind, sound. I rock HWM every day and I'll always say "they've never written a bad song." I'll have to play this one a few more times and give it a chance. Need to hear more George and Jason on these new albums.
Word. I can understand bands can evolve from one record to another and this can make it sounds little different from the early albums. It happens with a lot of bands. However, all these new HWM songs since A Flight and A Crash sounds too gummy, (almost childish) for my taste :( It sems we gonna have the first HWM gig in Brazil EVER at December 2nd this year. I already have bought my tickets. It's 17 years waiting to see them live. But I truly hope, from the bottom of my heart, they play only the old school stuff.
For me, they've been recording material that are way too close to Chuck/Chris's solo material. I don't think this is a bad thing but I was expecting something way more different than this.
A Flight And A Crash is a really good record. So is The New What Next. They've been evolving along their whole discography but you still could see their signature, from the old days, on everything they did until they disbanned. I can't say the same about Exister and I hope this don't happen to the new record but I think it'll be inevitable.
That's an interesting view. As a synthesis of what was said before I can state that to me HWM was always kinda rumbleseat plus the best rhythm section in Punk Rock ;-) However, when hearing the first tunes of any new HWM release in the last 15 years, or basically since A Flight and a Crash, I always went like: 'meh, old shit's better!'. But there always was that one song breaking the ice. For A Flight and a Crash it was "Jack of all trades", for Caution it was "Trusty chords", for The New What Next "Posion" and for Exister "Drag my body". And then the rest followed....so I'll stay posi about this release. Since you seem to not like Exister (boy, how epic are drag my body, state of grace or pledge wore thin??), what's your opinion on Caution, as you didn't mention that one in your comment about HWM evolving along their discography? I personally consider Exister "more traditional" HWM than The New What Next. TNWN is still super awesome but a major switch to a cleaner production level and a more Hard Rock like guitar sound. Exister went back to a more distorted overall vibe.
Deflektor Phalanx agree with you on all accounts. The album comes out, I listen a few times then shelve it for a bit. Eventually I come back for that one song (all the same as you) and realize the album is great.
attn rise records scene kids: classic melodic hardcore/post hardcore/indiemo rock band Hot Water Music, coming up with the likes of Christie Front Drive, Samiam, As Friends Rust, Jawbreaker, Small Brown Bike, The Lawrence Arms, Dillinger Four, Alkaline Trio. as they went on the developed an Americana influenced style (alongside some of the aforementioned bands) and created the style known today as ORGCORE. members were also in other bands such as The Blacktop Cadence (my personal fav, top tier second wave emo) and Chris Wollard and the Ship Thieves. early stuff is in leagues with early Sense Field and others of the time but they got more standard rocky as time went on, drawing more influence as I said from americana as well as indie, pop punk, and folk.
kakashi66132 . you said exactly WhT was on my my mind. forever and counting. Chuck gave me a hwm jacket at the fireside bowl for having the tat in like 99. blacktop cadence was the best
So many bands i used to listen to in highschool still comong out with albums and many of them actually still really good. new SatanicSurfers is fucking great too.
This video is so appropriate, and if you're one of the real ones then you know the effect HWM can have on you when you're feeling down.. The amazing dueling guitars, the guttural screams from Chuck Ragan, and the lyrics are always incredible
The first time I heard this song and every time I come back again to listen to it, it feels a little weak somehow, as if something's missing... Chuck's voice is awesome as always, same for the lyrics, but the sound... yup, kinda weak. Also I do agree with a previous comment, we need more of the BASS in the mix ! But then, I'm a sucker for anything made by these guys, and after listening it again and again, I'm sure I'll grow fond of it. I any case it's always a pleasure to hear something new, and can't wait to listen to the whole album. Forever waiting for you guys to come again in France. We miss you !!
...This isn't going to be like the last time you guys posted Hot Water Music videos, is it? I just need to know whether or not to make some popcorn to snack on while I read the comments section.
I dunno I dunno... Watered down version of their former selves keeps racing through my mind. Then again I've felt this way since "A Flight And A Crash". Sometimes I wish they had broken up at the Hardback. Rumbleseat was cool, Blacktop Cadence too, the solo projects are cool but HWM should hang it up. Thanks for Trusty Chords tho.
Chuck's voice rips it like always, but the riffs, drumbeat and basslines are quite weak and cheap and don't reflect the high quality of the other guys. also there could be more bass in the mix. I miss the sophisticated artfulness and rhythm of songs like Swinger tbh. hope the rest of the album will be somewhere near A flight and a crash...
Manfred Milchrahm I swear the drums are sampled. It's a good song but the production is the type of shit now a days that's trending. Everyone's producing pop.
i don't even find the song good tbh :/ but at least the guitar sounds a bit more like a real guitar than the ones on the new Flats album... my last hope for this year's is Crazy Arm's new album, hope they don't disappoint me like HWM and flats
as a fan of their music from the beginning, i have to admit, thats their weakest album....sadly. i cant get into the production sound...dont know why. every song feels like its missing something.
Dan you and those 40 people who upvoted are a perfect material for a case study on "bruh my completely subjective taste in music is superior to yours, you fucking pleb" syndrome.

It's good to have you back.
Nothing makes my day like new Hot Water Music. Cheers.

The world needs this.
best band ever!!!
Good to have you guys back. "At least for a little while we don't feel like dying!"
Glad to hear a new album is coming out. Hot Water Music helped me root my taste in rock music when I was a kid. One of my first bands I liked.
loving this more than most of their newer stuff, definitely hearing a revived older HWM sound, solid.
Amazing, These guys have changed so much since the last time Ive heard them for the first time , WOW
Loving this song! Preordered the new record. This reminds me more of Chuck's solo stuff than old school HWM, but I love it.
Jeremy Whetzel Nothing wrong with that though!
First time listener. Didn't expect Rise to have an act like this. I love their lyricism.

oh man.....
you're gonna have a good time going through their old stuff
I feel like I have to go through their company site now. Didn't know just how much I was missing out on.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Camille Mueco check out their older stuff! Start with the records "Caution" and "A Flight and a Crash"!
Found this band from playing the game "The Flame in the Flood" Chuck did the soundtrack and absolutely killed it.
that voice! ❤
HWM are in their forties now. I am almost 40. I can relate to this music. It rocks as much as it needs to and then some.
Chuck's voice and beard are immortal.
Love the sound beat. Catchy .😊
Thanks for the tunes. Love for your mentalite... Leftie I am dedicating 2 u
so goooooooooood
The Bouncing Souls influence is strong here.
Great band..... Great évolution
Why was I not introduced to this years ago? Just what I need.
I'm glad their out of hiatus, and making music again
This is just beautiful.
Acojonante, sobre todo cuando tu trabajo consiste en conducir toda la noche, no perdais ese toque tan increible que teneis, gracias chicos!
Chuck Ragan is great...been listening to his solo stuff now for a bit...but here I never had heard HWM yet. I love it though.
Fine a new album is coming.
Keep on rocking guys, great music und lyrics.
Sounds great, looking forward to hearing the rest.
Love what I hear so far.. can't wait to see what they've been up too
Just discovered this band it feels kinda weird n awesome at the same time X) I like it!
Can't stop listening to this
I love hot water music!!! I've got their logo tatted on my leg!!
PosterBoy me too! Love it!
yup, i have a HWM tat on my bicep
Surprises me to know that and old band I know like these guys are releasing new albums this year. Glad HWM are back
Great song, nice to hear my fav band doing it again! :)
Well, its been a while since anything new from HWM....thumbs up for sure. Not a ripper or barnburner but still solid. No complaints!
Its perfect. It's not anything crazy, it's just rock solid. I'm cool with that.
This is a tune

Wow riseee
Yes !!!!
I cannot deal with his voice....
YES!!!!! Cant wait for September 15th!!
man this sound's sick!.? not sure, what a new hwm album, stoked if it's true.
No... I'm dreaming ?! The day starts off well!
like the more post hardcore jams of their early work. probably wont listen to this again. but fuel for the hate game is excellent!!
YES!!! they are back to the older sound! The vultures song is so fucking good. Someone fucking upload it.
The refrain could be more punchy or epic...ish, but I definitely like it. Thumbs up :) Looking forward to more hot music to make Mate from! :D
Legit found HWM because I was looking through albums in the Punk Section of a music store and the Album Pictures for HWM looked cool.
Damn the last time i heard this band was when i played Tony Hawk like 15 years ago and was really dope.
Perordered :D , love HWM.
Sounds great, with Ness on vocals it easily could pass as a SD track. Instant like, Summer soundtrack 2017!
Awesome, i thought this band was done

SBB were just... can't even describe their awesomeness.
Don't forget Only Crime! Melodic Black Flag here
i just wanted my old hot water music...but they're never coming back...sad...
I love this dude's voice, it sounds like he gargles with gasoline and nails.
OMG !!!!!
Chuck!!!!!!!
Whattttt!
Them kids in Texas were pretty damn good. bkit brought me here.
So many bands i used to listen to in highschool still comong out with albums and many of them actually still really good. new SatanicSurfers is fucking great too.
that voice.
Reminding me a little tad bit of the same grooves as Bad Religions' "Los Angeles is Burning" hahahah. Just a little tad. Digging this song from HWM.
Wow, very different from the 90's. Reminds of Chamberlin a bit.
This video is so appropriate, and if you're one of the real ones then you know the effect HWM can have on you when you're feeling down.. The amazing dueling guitars, the guttural screams from Chuck Ragan, and the lyrics are always incredible

This is so much better than Exister, I'm shocked
song rips. HWM always has. catchy as hell. can't wait for the full album
This picture looks like it's taken from Samurai Jack.
Scott Sinclair is back.
MUITO BOM ,,,,,,,,,,
💪🧘♀️🖤❤️
Cool song. Better not be religious hahah! I kid! This song is my theme for sobriety
Fucking yes
When you come to Italy ... we are waiting for you
нормально так
kinda funny that kids comment on HWM music videos to say it's bad, when they like shitty risecore bands.
what's risecore?
Bass needs to be WAY higher in the mix....one of HWM's solid trademarks is barely audible.
Alles
awesome band meh song
Probably should
I dunno I dunno... Watered down version of their former selves keeps racing through my mind. Then again I've felt this way since "A Flight And A Crash". Sometimes I wish they had broken up at the Hardback. Rumbleseat was cool, Blacktop
Cadence too, the solo projects are cool but HWM should hang it up. Thanks for Trusty Chords tho.
First of all.....this popped up in my recommendations after I asked if the hot water was back on in the shower....I’m sorry who
The first sentence is made for bad pun.
Na. It's a Pegboy reference right out of the gate.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS PEGBOY!!!
raping the play button!
They are an example of real and honest music, but no one needs this music, everyone wants songs about gucci gang and other shit
Chuck's voice rips it like always, but the riffs, drumbeat and basslines are quite weak and cheap and don't reflect the high quality of the other guys. also there could be more bass in the mix.

Took a lot of Reactine to get up
This song is a lot better at 1.25x speed
this guy needs to smoke more cigarettes
I was hoping hot water music would never come back.
Mark Spence My dog ran away. :(
Some say that it's still running to this day, trying to get far away from bad music.
my life is a meme. kill me
another new rise records band without proper breakdowns and quality. kinda pissed...
Is this a real comment or sarcasm?
I'm willing to bet this band is older than you are
as a fan of their music from the beginning, i have to admit, thats their weakest album....sadly.
i cant get into the production sound...dont know why.
every song feels like its missing something.
big fan of Rise Records but not a fan of this band.
Yeah, because it's not normal Rise Records trash. This band is actually good.
Dan you and those 40 people who upvoted are a perfect material for a case study on "bruh my completely subjective taste in music is superior to yours, you fucking pleb" syndrome.
On tight lines of certain wreck and rut.... sounds like my anxiety on a bad day
Just discovered this band it feels kinda weird n awesome at the same time X) I like it!
Go get yourself a copy of No Division. Great Album.
