All my whistles are Dixon whistles. Affordable price and really great quality. They are a dedicated bunch there willing to Help any question. Because I had ordered all my whistles from Dixon they gave me one for free as a compliment for a valued customer. Very nice and friendly they are! I just love their wishtle. I tried Thunderbird from KerryWhistles. Very expensive and a big disappointment. It just does not sound as good as Dixon ones. Highly recommend Dixon for all. They keep being traditional. It is really great!
What Dixon whistle would you recommend? The heavy brass, trad brass or the plastic with brass slides? Or maybe the Aluminum/Nickel? Would like one that I can fall in love with.😊
alanguages Yes. Too loud and too much air is needed in The second Octave. when I go higher it gets terrible. Proffesional whistlers either love it or dislike it very much. There are far better whistles for me. But some people like it.
Thomas Aasen well I actually bought all Dixon high D soprano whistles. Brass, trad, trad nickel, thicker tuneable ones plastic and metal. Each has a unique sound. Good whistling.
Glad I got myself the heavy brass and a couple of the other Tony Dixon whistles they're top quality ranging for amateurs to professionals alike. What's the melody you're playing on the heavy brass by the way? I want to play it on my whistle.
I need some advice and recommendation between DX004 and DX006 which one is better and clear sound. Compare aluminium and plastic which one is your recommend.
I notice here there is one original model with brass tuning slide, and a newer update which is identical but has a brass trim at the bottom of the instrument instead of simple PVC. In the UK the original model is £42 direct from Dixons website. I recently bought the original one online from Just Flutes for £39. I don't know if there is any difference between them, but suspect not. Cutiepie piper on You tube plays the original one with the brass slide but no brass trim at the end. She gave it a good review and often plays it. Mine is the same and I like it.. I doubt there is any reason to pay $20 dollars extra. I notice that there is a wide range of pricing for the same whistle across UK sites.
I just got the basic Dixon high D whistle model DX001 on Dec. 7, 2018. I gave it a review on the Chiff and Fipple forums. forums.chiffandfipple.com/search.php?keywords=Review+Dixon+High+D&terms=all&author=&fid%5B%5D=1&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search Basically under the heading of "it is what it is", I like it and recommended.👍 I just think it could be a little thicker.

Can you give specifics why the Thunderbird was a big disappointment?

I have 3 Tony Dixon Irish whistles: 1 soprano (D) 1 alto (G) and 1 low D. I'm very satisfied with them. Easy to play, good octave jump.
First time I find someone playing with the right hand on top like me!
same ! i Was just looking at that, i learned with right hand on top
Arguably the best player about Michael McGoldrick plays with his right hand on top - often called the left handed way! - I also play this way
yes Páraic McNeela is left handed
I'm right handed and also play right hand top check out Mary bergin she plays top right hand she's brilliant
Very good demonstration. Thank you.
"...whatdya tink of dat?" Brilliant!
Really helpful, thank you.
Excellent! Thanks!
Perfect explanations thanks a lot Sr
Amazing video, I use a Clarke D, a Feadog D and one in C. Do you recommend this for my next whistle?
Their 1st octave lower notes tend to be shaky (fragile) compared to other whistles; so, I have to be extra gentle when hoping to the lower notes.

Dx004 is good enough...

I'd always go for the aluminium, Daus mcneelamusic.com/tuneable-d-aluminium-whistle-dx006-by-tony-dixon/
I have a question; the DX005, are there 2 models, the normal one and the Pro ? Amazon Canada sells one model at $59 and the pro at $79. I wonder.

How would Dixon's brass "D" compare to John Sindts?
Thank you!
What's the cute little tune at 2.50 ?
Ashokan Farewell. It was used in the film The Civil War by Ken Burns. Written by Jay Ungar
What is the name of the tune starting at 0:27?
Most probably in D. I searched on the net and find D. You can search by writing Dixon Dx204.
@@sarpthesharp I know its in D. I was asking the name of the song he was playing
