My name is Christine, and welcome to Frugal Fit Mom! Today I am doing part 2 of the January declutter challenge by going through ALL of my clothes and decluttering as much as I can. I changed the organization of the room as well and I'm happy with how it's looking!

I held on to my prom dresses for nostalgia reasons too... then I found out about a charity that gives prom dresses to girls who can't afford them. I donated my dresses right away and didn't look back.
I hang hangers backwards and when I wear things, I hang them back up the right way. 6 months later I donate things I haven't worn.
I do this! Works great!
Genius!
That is what I was going to say!
I do the same thing. Works pretty well but I've come to realize I need to revamp my wardrobe bc all my clothes I've had since I was 20 so 13 yrs. It's time to move to more adult clothes
Ditto!
I need to declutter some ice cream!!!! I think you are really on to something there. 🤣❤️
It was a party at our house!
@@FrugalFitMom I said "Order pizza!" to your request for a service to deliver dinner where you didn't have to meal plan or go downstairs to cook anything!
My closet is already organized but I need to get a 3rd shelf to get more stuff put where I want it to go. :) Hasn't always been that way, just happened bc I have started over my life. Major reset.
Decluttering icecream is the best type of decluttering isn't it lol
I like decluttering doritos.
Agree🤣
@@kimbarbeaureads Make Tortilla Soup loaded with advocado and fresh cilantro, Yum!
Oh gosh, when I first got married I got rid of this suit my husband had. It was black, GABARDINE, DOUBLE-BREASTED, and he hadn't even bought it himself! Somebody at his office had given it to him! (Oh yeah, and it had gold buttons. UGH!!!) He still brings that up, that I gave his suit away. But it was worth getting rid of it, it really was.
That really made me laugh!
My step dad had a hideous Hawaiian shirt he wore all the time. My mom, stepsister and I hid it from him to keep him from wearing it every time we went out. He came out wearing the shirt after we hid it and we couldn’t figure out how he found it. Turned out his mom had brought him two of them back from her trip. 😂
I have been binge watching your videos and normally I skip through when people talk until they get to the cleaning but with you i don't skip at all! you're humor is so natural and I love your channel!❤
There's nothing wrong with having tons of clothes, shoes, and accessories if you have room and you're meeting your other needs! I totally agree that having a great system and lovely hangers and lighting makes a huge difference.
This might be the most real clothes declutter video in the series. That’s exactly how we feel about our shoes. Thanks for joining the collab!
Do we have to sleep on the couch tonight?? 😂😂😂
Yay! Happy to see your comment. Im a follower of yours!
He’s so funny
I feel you..I’ve organized so many other things in my house..and I’ve done my kids closets, my linen closet and some of my husbands..but keep avoiding mine.lol
Im glad I came across your vedio I am now ge6rid of all my clothes
I looked at your other video about a year ago on the same subject, then I scrubbed the oof out of my house, then I just moved. I just got fed up with my apartment. I now live with my 80 year old mum and she love it! I do all the heavy lifting and carrying groceries. I am not married and have no kids.
How I decluttered my closet. Shoved everything to one side of my closet and once I used it I put it on the other side. I could only use things I hadn’t worn until I cycled through everything. Gave me a good idea of what I didn’t reach for or just didn’t want to wear. I also let go of any shoes that hurt my feet and was finally able to let go of a few pairs that I love but that don’t offer any support. As for purses..I am working on it. I haven’t been able to let go a few that I don’t use reasoning that I’ll use them when we can go outside again.😅
This is seriously a great idea!!! If you won’t wear it, it needs to go!
...That works for some styles of clothing...I just am that woman that loves my " going out clothes' ..and I dont wear them all the time,...But I want them around, for the times I need to have a LBD ( or a few) and amazing shoes to go with.... :) I also adore ' fringed jackets", not giving those up, lol.
We need a 6month update! How did all the clothes fair and your shoe system!!
"That's a no for me, dawg." LOL. That statement alone made me sub.
I've been helping my friend debulk her house since the first week of Dec. So far, she's gotten 6 moving boxes of clothes to donate. We arent close to being done.
I've been trying to help a neighbor get rid of what doesn't fit. She had 16W to 26W in her closet. And I bought a book (*for $2 at DG) called the Hungry Girl Diet, which idk if she's read? She wants to do Keto Diet but I said just reduce the calories. I've been looking for land to plant a garden, I found the city community gardens listed for sale as a commercial property 3.5 acres for $100k in residential neighborhood?? What??? Maybe $50k too much.
How wonderful that you are helpibg your friend and that she is making progress!
I helped my friend 2 years ago. How many purple tank tops does one need? Obviously 50. Just purple. I gave up when we moved to pink.
@@howbethdoesit5695 Lololol/! That sounds worse than me!
I too love shoes. I have several pairs of heels that I love the beauty of but have never worn in public because they hurt my feet. But occasionally I put them on, walk around my house for 5 minutes and feel beautiful and powerful. So I keep them. That’s there sole purpose. Pun intended. 😉
It looks like you have enough space, I would put summer stuff back in your closet. I always find rotating clothes in an out of your closet makes it hard to keep a good handle on your inventory.
Agree! I put a long shelf on the very top of my closet and put my out-of-season stuff in bins. If it leaves my closet... it just becomes another thing to deal with.
I agree as well!
Yes! I was thinking if it’s not in there. And there is “empty space” you would want to fill it up.
Not me. When I have a smaller amount IN my closet it’s super easy to keep tabs. But I only have 3 Ts, 4ish Long Ts and 5 sweaters.
I keep summer/winter bins super accessible though. Just in open bins above (larger than the soft “cubes”) and I can just toss out of season items in there easy peasy.
But we’re all different. There definitely no one size fits all way to do it. But when I started it- it made me feel sooo much better. I hadn’t realized how stressful my closet was till it had “breathing room”.
I prefer keeping as few things in my "active" inventory as possible. I prefer to have some empty space. A space that looks full still feels cluttered to me.
On your a wee bit too small items, see if Haley would like them.
Retro dress for Hailey (your old prom dress)?
@@angelacollins1343 I mean...90s fashion IS back...just saying.
I want to give you a hug, Christine. You are so real! You have a full life and wardrobe. Love your vulnerability and honesty! 💕💕💕
Keep the flip flops for showering when you go camping or if you ever shower in a gym and pool is a good idea.
I listened to Decluttering at the speed of life after minimal mom recommended it. Game changer
I turn my hangers backwards at the beginning of each season. When I launder the item it goes back in the right way. After a few months, everything that hasn’t been worn gets donated.
I lost 70 lbs this year sooo ALL my clothes are too big!
Great job! You deserve some beautiful new outfits. ☺️🌻
I was literally staring at my closet this morning thinking I need to clean it out/organize it....thank you for the inspiration!
We need a part two with after-shots of your closet organization!
That smooth transition into green chef though 🤣 love it 😍
Had to come to terms of the sad reality that the cute, strappy shoes I loved in my 20s/30s no longer can be tolerated by my 40s feet. :( Was a sad day to part with them.. But good job!
It's SO sad too!
❤️Minimal Mom! She called it the “quarantine” bin, to put things away for a few months to revisit later. Also, thanks for being so real!
Very fitting for the pandemic 😂. I love Dawn.
Hailey lurking in the background in her hoodie reminds me so much of my teenage daughter. 😉
Keeping some items for " after pandemic" activities is a great idea. No need to entirely toss /donate items we will use later. My example is :
I work for Temporary Staffing Agencies doing a variety of jobs. So, I still keep my casual dresses and more dressy clothing for those reasons although no, I haven't used them in a year. I had been working prior to COVID for two years as a substitute preschool teacher and jeans were my wardrobe. So, common sense leads us to downsize using our individual criteria.
Good video
The "used it in a year" rule was pre-lock downs and just doesn't make sense right now.
My mindset has changed due to lockdown. I'm not getting rid of anything. I will keep what I have and use it until it's no longer usable. I will also have back-ups of things. Don't want to be caught unprepared, nor do I want to have to go out and buy something again that I got rid of.
I'm retired and I had no problem getting rid of things. Some of my things were 45 years old. Best thing I ever did. Now twice a year I declutter my whole house.
Decluttering your clothes gets addictive. I was so hesitant when I first started, and now I look forward to it, and feel so much happier with what I wear and am way more careful with what I buy.
I feel you on the jackets. I decluttered so I had space for a blue coat, a a brown coat a grey coat and a black coat. Do I need them no? Do they spark joy... ummm I may or may not pat them every now and again for just existing in my closet
We are moving soon, so I just said to my family, "We have to eat all of this ice cream in the next two days!" They are ok with that task.
Lol 😊
Hey! Just found you and I absolutely love your personality!
I’m a frugal, OCD individual 🤣🤣 and I love watching videos like this!
I have to admit, my whole total wardrobe, excluding pjs and under garments are less then you got rid of!
I put my hangers with the hooky part facing out on the rod. Then with every item I wear I rehang it with the hooky part facing the wall. I then declutter every 3-4 months anything that wasn’t turned around.
(Some specialty pieces excluded.)
Gosh, I wish more decluttering videos had your energy, Christine! I'm sure *doing* it was a drag but watching it was super fun.
Invest in some matching hangers; they will make your closet look and feel SOoo much nicer and organized!
I feel you friend!
I love your channel Gia❤️
This one was REALLY hard
one way i have been dealing with declutering my clothes while being unable to go out is planning outfits. so if its sunday plan what you would wear to church if you could go out. i have found planning these outfits even if i dont wear them has helped me see what i reach for and what i dont.
Genius!
That's a great idea!
My purses go on the top shelf of my closet, I keep them upright by putting the small bags inside the bigger ones. For backpack and the like I hang them on command hooks on the side wall of the closet.
Your clothes used to be me a year ago! I have 25% of my clothes from a year ago and I feel sooo much better! I got rid of 2 bulky dressers 🙌
You got this!
OMG I have been looking for years for a sleeve to cover my arm that hangs out the car window so I don't tan unevenly. Who knew cyclists had my solution all along. May I suggest that you keep all the white hangers and give Dave all the colored hangers. And when you buy storage containers or laundry baskets immediately take off the stickers. It is too hard to take them off later. Too OCD? You have really good taste and buy quality so when you have to part with a beloved item, put it on and take a picture for the memory of it instead. Seeing all your clothes is like seeing another facet of your personality. So fun!
Having a summer bin has been a game changer for me...and getting the big coats out of the closet when spring rolls around is also so nice! No reason to keep your entire wardrobe in your closet at once!
Keep the skirt...you'll lose the 5lbs as soon as the warm weather comes
You sounded like me when you said “I will keep these until I die” that’s me with everything! Too funny!!!
This task you are doing is precisely why I didn’t sign up for her challenge. I can’t handle it when I work full time as a teacher...but I hope she puts that class up again this summer so I can do it!
This just goes to show that the more space we have, the more we fill it with stuff. I don't have the same problem as you because I don't have a walk in closet. The shelf dividers from Walmart are a great idea!
Currently im a teacher working from home. I have been cleaning out everything and yes maybe I havent had the need to wear all my professional clothes but I will need them again at some point. Post pandemic clothes are important to have.
I like your thought process with the closet. I am a person who is overstimulated by too many choices with clothing. I went to a capsule wardrobe years ago and it has been such a relief. I may wear the same few items all season, but if I can’t be stylish, I’m at least minimal-ish. Lol!
I just decluttered my closet and dresser yesterday. I filled 7 huge garbage bags - 1 trash, 5 donate and 1 bag of things that are too big that are going to a friend. We dropped off the donation bags around midnight. I needed it out of my house. 😜 I kept probably 2 trash bags worth of pandemic-uncertain clothes. I'm still working and am on camera every day but haven't worn good pants in a year, or suits or anything that requires drycleaning. It felt good to get dressed this morning, and see a row/drawer of things I like to pick from.
Instead of donating, have you thought of a clothing exchange with girl friends? We used to do them YEARS ago. One person hosts. Every lady gets a room in the house to lay out their items. To save on costs overall for the "event" to feed everyone, everyone brings a vegetable or fruit item to add to salad. Literally like one tomato. Or one cucumber, etc. Or one apple. Great way to clean out your fridge, too. The Host supplies lettuce and dressings. Was sooo much fun!!!! Its a luncheon with the ladies AND clothing that you've envied in your friends' closets end up in yours. Then whatever is unclaimed get donated to a women's shelter. Was fun to see older styles that we all wore get seen by each other again, too. Dont forget to bring accessories like belts, purses, junk jewelry and clean.out those areas in your closets, too. Fond memories I have of those clothing exchanges. We did one every 6 months for a few years.
I have shelves like that and used some bins for my workout shoes and one for my flip flop and sandals. Then I put the rest on the shelves.
I feel you sister! I've had to purge my closet so many times because I couldn't let go of things! I too like having things to wear to all the places I like to go. I did it layer by layer. I think its ok to do it little by little!
Doing the same today and was making a "review post pandemic" area in my closet. As a fellow cold weather winter/nota so cold summer person I usually do a swap in spring and fall where all my off season clothes get put away in under bed storage and in season clothing hung.
Congratulations, Christine. The closet looks great, you have nothing you don't like and/or wear, and, most importantly, it looks like you'll be able to see everything you have. Hard work, but you did it! I already decluttered my clothes, but I kept waaaaay too much stuff that I really don't use, so it's time to go back and be more realistic. Thanks for the inspiration.
BTW, my trick for knowing if I've worn something lately is to reverse the hanger. When most everything has been reversed, I put anything I haven't worn in the front of the closet, so I see it first; if I don't use that stuff during the rest of the season, I get rid of it.
Ahhh, I love decluttering! I did my closet a month ago and what a freeing feeling to get rid of everything that I don't wear and now open my closet and everything in there fits and looks fine on me! Your "after" is like triple my "before", imagine that! You still have a lot
So motivating. It sure feels overwhelming to begin, but it looks so good when done. Bags and purses are my hard to store items. I’ve finally just bought a large pretty wicker basket and put them all in there. For now it works!
This is one of the most real videos of decluttering clothes. Thank you for keeping it real!
Currently decluttering my closets as well.
Love the what you added to your shelves for your shoes! I did something very similar for my mugs in my kitchen!
Thank you for doing this because I feel your pain... I have so many dress personas for outside work events, wfh etc so I appreciate your take on this as I have also felt paralyzed by what to do!!
I usually do a clothing clean out/donation once per year, but I did a deep closet clean out last year and was so therapeutic. I even bought a shoe rack! NO MORE SHOE BOXES!!!!
I just saw a video from @DoItOnADime and she recommended getting S hooks from the dollar store and chaining them together, for a place to hang purses!
love your energy! what takes you a couple hours takes me a couple months. "that's a no for me, dawg." love it!
Please keep the spring coat! It has classic styling and a great unique pattern! Very cool!!
I used those exact same shelves to store my shoes on shelves too! they are working great and it saves a lot of space!
The rotation system makes so much sense! I color coordinate my clothes, but still do short sleeve, long sleeve etc. But I may switch to the rotation system. Then at the end of the season or year, donate whatever I don’t wear. 🙌🏻
I keep my purses in clear plastic containers with a lid (file box size) on the top shelf in my closet. I've been meaning to purge, so thanks for the motivation!
Purses go in a bin at the very top shelf of the closet. Nicely stored and out of the way
Totally with you on the post-pandemic situation! I normally work in a business casual office, but I've been working from home 90% of the time for the last 10 months.
I use the fabric cube bins in those built-in closet shelves... one of them is for my purses!
Hi!!! I keep a cheap pair of flip flops in all of my travel luggage:) that way when you do travel again you don’t have to stress about forgetting your flip flops for the pool:) I never unpack them:)
I would keep anything you still have from high school. My dad still has his baby blue, corduroy leisure suit and it came in very handy for themed dress-up days for my brothers in high school.
For Christmas this year I requested 100 black velvet hangers. Life changing to have all of my hangers match!!!!
For purses i used one of those over the door hooks that has like 5 or 6 hooks on it and put it over the closet door on the inside and hang my purses on that. Some are inside each other to save space also.
I totally feel this. I am a Pastor. I have stuff I need for that. I have stuff I need for Live Streaming & then, I have a part time job (pre & post pandemic) that I need other clothes for. So, decluttering is hard I just did it and had 10 bags of clothes lol
I am so doing this! I need to get rid of stuff especially kid toys!
I just got rid of alot of clothes and shoes last night guess we all feeling the same right now
That banana republic jacket is EVERYTHING!!! I’m so glad you kept it!
Oooh! I need those shelves for my room. Thank you!🤗
I am always puzzled when I don't see people rotating their clothes into fall/winter and spring/summer. One for keeping my clothes current, two - there isn't over buying or duplicating, three makes way for viewing. and four keep the difficult categories organized. Then it's like all new friends come the next season. All the styles I've seen take about clothes do this same thing. (My Mom, the farm girl, set this up for us when I was growing up.). We also see how very blessed we are.
I just decluttered my closet and I couldn't believe all the stuff I had and got rid off. I still had stuff from high school lol. It took me a week to get it all done but it feels so good to see the floor in there again :).
I do the same thing with my laundry baskets. One full one is the opposite seasons clothes.
My partner and I did a huge clothing (and other fabric items) de-clutter a few months ago. If I recall, we ended up binning two garbage bags of stuff that was completely trashed, to the point I stuck my fingers through a tea-towel just picking it up. Another two were given to friends to use as grease rags for all their machinery. 7 or 8 were donated to local op shops (thrift stores) and the last bag went to a friend with kids, full of stuff they could wear as aprons for craft and some nicer things for the kids to grow into.
I love clothes too, and my lifestyle takes in new activities seemingly every few months, which require some of the clothes that more drastic declutterers would have purged. Of all the folks in this decluttering theme your closet reminds me most of my own. :) I've been bringing home stackable produce boxes from the food pantry that I use as organizers for my temporary dressers. They have cut-away fronts so I can get clothes out without unstacking the boxes.
I so needed this , my closet is stuffed. This was the first closet decluttering video on my feed.
Good for you!! LOL to pandemic pile!! I hear ya! I threw 1/2 of my closet out after I put my clothes on my bed last wknd!!! It feels so good!! High 5!!!
I like the shelves that size. Good for storage option of larger items. You can always get an insert it you will use for smaller items.
Christine
When I had Planterfaschi it’s. I was given an exercise where you freeze a water bottle, take a medium size towel, put towel on rug, take plastic bottle out of freezer, roll the foot. Over top of bottle for 15 minutes 3 times a day.
It went away after 2 weeks. I had been to my doctor,a walk-in and the Physio suggested the exercises.
That got rid of the sore. It was amazing. I would hang on to thee dress for your daughter for when she gets older.

🤍🤍 THE SKIPPING GREEN CHEF DELIVERY GIRL WAS HILARIOUS !!!!!🤍🤍
I switched out my hangers to the slim ones, NOT the Velvet type as they are harder to remove the clothes . I have a type that have grippers on them so nothing slides off .
I have one colour for myself and one for hubby, it just works .
I have the extender hangers that I put 5 pairs of scrub pants , 5 tops . It takes us way less room and I can see everything.
I'm a fan of vacuum storage bags for seasonal, silk & cashmere, heavy knits. They dont take up as much room.
You should take all your Team Beef shirts and make a t-shirt quilt. It's a great keepsake (especially since the group is no longer around) and t-shirt quilts are actually alot simpler to make than regular quilts.
Decluttering is such a boring chore, but it feels so much better doing it while your videos are running in the background. You are so adorable 🙂
I keep my purses in a cloth lined wicker basket on the top shelf of my closet (in their dust bags). I usually carry a purse until it's worn out, so I don't change them out very often. Since I don't change out purses very often, I usually spend a little more for high quality bags that will last a long time.
I love decluttering and organizing...except when it comes to clothes and shoes! So glad to find someone else who just really loves clothes!
I don't have the closet space for all my clothes. So I use a bin, my clothes are out by season, fall winter, spring summer. When it comes time to change over I will get rid of something's I didn't wear or haven't wore in a year. It works if you don't have a huge closet. Then the bin goes up to the attic.
I have the command hooks in my closet to hold my purses. winter purse stores gloves and scarf inside so I can always find them.
Looks awesome- we need the follow up when you finish!!!
The shoe shelf looks so good!
You did an AMAZING job decluttering! I definitely need to declutter my clothes. I know I still have clothes in there from college and that has been 6-7 years ago.
I just found your channel and I love it already. You radiate such positive energy 🥰
Love the shelf idea for the shoes!!
