Glam Metal is surely my favorite Rock genre. I try to stick in as many bands into the term as possible. Great video. This will be a lengthy post. Def Lepp at #1 is spot on. Top tier would have definitely had Kiss on my list. and I don't mean the Hall & Oates song. Winger rocked. They also had a slight prog vibe to them. "Madalaine" and especially "Headed For A Heartbreak" and guess what their new alum 'Seven" is heavy. Kiss went full on Glam on "Lick It Up". The first album without makeup. Kix, Danger Danger, Black N Blue, Twisted Sister, Vixen Pretty Boy Floyd, Lita Ford, Quiet Riot, all could fall into one of those tiers. Here's a tier. Bands who knew they were Glam, but didn't want to be associated with the term" Guns & Roses. Always kinda pissed at these guys cause they could have kept the popularity of Glam Metal alive through the 90's, by just carrying out the term with pride. I mean comon, Big Arena Rock power ballads, catchy riffs, insane guitar solos, and hair hair hair. another tier. "70's bands who became even bigger bands in Glam form": Aerosmith, Heart, Alice Cooper, AC/DC(debatable), Meatloaf, Kiss could have fit here too. and even Van Halen because David Lee Roth was poster boy of big hair and spandex. I leave you with one final band 1982 Michael Bolton. Even had Bruce Kulick on guitar.

That was a great show! Exactly my music. Wow, you know Hawk. One tier is left. The great newer bands who keep this style alive with great concerts and albums. Crashdiet, Crazy Lixx, H.E.A.T, Confess, Chez Kane, Eclipse etc. Thank god the next indoor summer festival in hamburg with bands old (Helix, Tramps White Lion, Coney Hatch) and new (Crashdiet, Hardcore Superstar, Confess) etc. is near. After that the H.E.A.T and Eclipse double headline tour. This music is still alive. By the way, I love the tier with all the metal bands that became glamsters for one album.

The only one I thought of that might deserve to be on the list is D.A.D (Disneyland After Dark), specifically the album No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims from 1989. Sleeping My Day Away was a cool song, as was Rim Of Hell. The singer, Jesper Binzer, has also released a couple of solo albums, Dying Is Easy in 2017 and Save Your Soul in 2020. The 1st metal album to do so, as you mentioned, some people don't see them as glam/ hair metal - but no denying that they were definitely huge at the time! They're a personal favorite of mine....no makeup or anything like that....they did have about the strongest hair game going ...lol-, Sebastian 's voice was beautiful, and the album was all killer and no filler. It also didn't hurt that he had stage presence with charisma, and of course, he was gorgeous, as was Rachel...so, thanks again for bringing them up. ❤

They released two albums on ATCO Records. One of their drummers was briefly in Cinderella. If I could add a tear, I would add bands with a slight Prog edge. Problem is I would only have two bands in there. They would be Europe and Winger. For those that don't know, Europe started out as a Prog band called Force. No, I don't think that GNR was ever Glam. People probably say that based on Axl's appearance in the Welcome To The Jungle video. Cool that you spoke about Winger's first two albums. I dig them. Everyone just talks about Pull.

Heart had a sound that was right in between glam metal and adult contemporary in their self titled in 1985, Bad Animals in 1987 and Brigade in 1990.
Yngwie started blending glam in his songs in Trilogy in 1986, went full on Glam in Odyssey in 1988 and Eclipse in 1990, started blending power metal in Fire And Ice in 1992, blended more power metal until going full on power metal in Alchemy in 1999.

For Tier 7 I feel as if there are many bands or artists that went glam that should've been included. Here's some interesting ones
Discharge's Second Album Grave New World, keeps their hardcore ethos while shifting into the glam territory, universally hated by many but interesting to hear.
Like Discharge, TSOL, also a hardcore band tried their hand at glam metal with Hit and Run with singer Joe Wood
Keeping on with different lead singers and going glam, Bad Company went into a Glam Metal sound with their tenure with Brian Howe, as well as Montrose's Album Mean with Johnny Edwards and Uriah Heep's Equator with Peter Goalby.
Judas Priest wasn't the only 80s classic metal band to go glam! Accept hired a new singer named David Reece to record Eat the Heat in 1989, a nice glam metal record!
Don't forget about bands that were glam for a bit like The Cult, Manic Street Preachers, Blackfoot, Heart, Alice Cooper, and even Aerosmith and Triumph!

Glam is more than hair and makeup...it was the sound.
    Some other bands:
Heart went glam in the 80s.
Aerosmith went glam in the 80s
Starship went glam in the 80s.
Yes went semi-glam in the 80s.
Van Halen went glam-pop in 80s..."Jump" anyone? I know that is not quite the same...but glam was synonymous with pop back then, glam was SO HUGE. Van Hagar?
Everyone went glam in the 80s....MTV made them do so. No glam-pop....no success with some rare exceptions. ACDC went semi-pop with Back in Black.
I would also throw in Damn Yankees, pop and ballads which can be sort of glam.

I seen _at least_ 95% of every metal band in the 80s, including glam metal. I do not agree that grunge was what caused the end to glam rock. What happened was that glam rock bands started coming from everywhere, and they got too into ballads and we wanted the metal, not the pop. That's why many of the British bands survived, as well as Skid Row, Metallica, and other metal bands. Nobody even seems to know what the grunge sound is. Just look at a list of grunge bands and try to explain how 'Babes In Toyland' has the same sound as Pearl Jam. I love Babes. I don't care for Pearl Jam. My point being, the softer ballads killed glam metal. We still listened to band like L7 and Babes In Toyland that somehow falls under grunge, but they are far more punk metal.

Brave man saying Kingdom Come is better than Led Zeppelin but I'm a big fan of Kingdom and Lenny Wolf. Bad Image is probably my favorite album from them but everything they put out in the 80s and 90s is great. Never thought of LA Guns or Faster Pussycat as bluesy but some of the songs you mentioned do have a blues flavor to them.

Icon is definitely a band that I think deserves a shoutout in tier 8. They were around when glam metal became popular, releasing their self-titled debut in 1984 which had a slightly heavier sound. Their follow up, Night of the Crime, came out in 1985 and was produced by Eddie Kramer. It is probably THE most 80's sounding production I have ever heard and I love it. The ballad Frozen Tears, which was on that album, is one of my favorite glam ballads. Their third album is just okay imo but it does generally have better reviews than the first two. The original singer Stephen Clifford has an absolutely killer voice that kind of reminds me of Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot.
So yeah, killer band that I think deserves some love.
