  • There is a cheaper aftermarket kit that contains all 4 of the bushings that I replaced in this video, which, honestly, I wish I had known about before spending about $61 at my local parts house for these things:
    amzn.to/2xaWkV6
    If you want genuine parts:
    25117580281 - Gearshift rod joint - amzn.to/2wJvsZk
    25111222015 - shifting arm bearing - amzn.to/2wIIuGF
    25117507695 - bush bearing oval - amzn.to/2gNcgWK
    25111220600 - shift lever bearing - amzn.to/2wIAkOh
    You'll have to dig through realoem.com if you want other part numbers for this swap. You can also look at various posts on e46fanatics for the details on this swap. Several people have made DIYs and one person made an excel spreadsheet with every part number and bolt. This is one thread (but the pictures don't work anymore): forum.e46fanati...

    Like the way you describe details such as the clutch fork retaining spring and why to lightly & carefully grease certain points avoiding too much grease that might affect the clutch plate…good stuff as usual! 👍

    Can you do a manual swap of the shift bushing when the transmission is still in the car?

    I had to leave the washers out when I updated the new linkage bushing, everything was nice and tight.

    You did like me and didn't replace that $6 selector shaft seal on the tranny. I'll do mine with the rear main. I did a short-throw with an OE 535i shifter, already had an M knob. That idler arm rear mount new and old seemed the same to me, LOL. On the front of the idler arm I used the nylon bushings from ECS to tighten it up even further.

    Thanks for the video. I really learn a lot from your nice videos. I have a question. Recently I replaced some of the bushings except the rod joint. Now shift lever lies slanting towards right side. I noticed that the selector rod is inserted from the right side (passenger side) but I inserted it from the left side. What could be the reason?

    Can you access and take out the shift lever to replace the bushings without dropping the trans?

      I also need to know this. I was literally driving to the garage this morning to get parking break fixed when all of a sudden my stick went slack and now my car is stuck in second.

      I know I’m a month late but yea you can, it’s a tight fit for the clip that holds the upper link on but it can be done with a screwdriver, you may also need to remove the driveshaft but it is completely possible to reach around and work with the shifter

  • @anwarmurad3439

    did this fix actually solve a sloppy gearstick?

    • @garrettgiuffre7298
      @garrettgiuffre7298 4 роки тому +3

      If yours has never been replaced there's a few factors the if the selector rod bushing is worn it'll create slap if the rear shift bushing is worn it'll create play if the shift rod ball is worn it'll create play if the shifter ball cup is worn it'll create play if the front oval bushing is worn it'll create play if they're all worn it creates a lot of play a perfect working order shifter will still have some play from the factory because it's not a race car but if you have a car that's never had any servicing of the shifter and it's $200,000 miles and you go from that to a complete replacement of all the shifter components it's night and day add a short throw shifter and maybe a zhp knob maybe polyurethane bushing for the rear big difference big big big big difference nachi

    hi 50s kid I want to know why my shift gear don't want to go into gear when I started engine but if I put in gear and started engine the car will roll with the clutch fully press do u what's wrong or what I need to replace?

    • @BlackJackGarage
      @BlackJackGarage 6 років тому

      Sounds like a clutch bleeding problem,either you have air in the system,or if it's run by cables they maybe got loose so your clutch doesn't disengage completely.

    • @mrs.w.4618

      Hi... My car is doing the exact same thing. Very very hard to get in gear when running, but f I turn it off it goes in no problem.
      My car also rolls when in first with clutch fully engaged.
      My clutch pedal also has about 3 inches of play...
      Any ideas?

    Is it possible to replace the shift lever bearing without removing the assembly from the car, or getting underneath? Could I do it all from the cabin?

    • @jasonputtock4428
      @jasonputtock4428 5 років тому +3

      no. you need to lower the transmission by 4 inches. Then remove the lever from under the car.

    That Bushing That Slides Right Out I think it’s called the shifter arm bushing if there’s not one on the trans the shifter will drop from it’s correct position right u would have to hold it up while shifting ?

  • @dantheman1337

    Few tips: use the appropriate grease, lithium spray is too light duty and won't last. Don't use silicone spray to push in bushings, glue like substances are actually specified as bushings should be fixed in place and lubrication weakens the hold.

  • @dsturbovq

    in the future get the delrin bushing for the front and the poly one in the rear with a z3 shifter and if u really want get a dssr and ur shifter will be perfect

    • @victoraugusto3610

    I don't know why I always watch other people's videos trying to look how to do something for hours and hours and get so frustrated and pissed off because they're all so much idiots that think they know what they're doing that regurgitate information and I always end up back here to the fifties kid and say wow why didn't I just do this first because you know what you're doing Dam it

  • @NEWAGenTChannel

    dude i pushed the bushing off and on easy with my thumb. you should only have a yellow spacer on the outside. thats why it would not fit.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  7 років тому +1

      No spacers at all with the new bushing I installed--it has integral bushings. Says so on realoem, in fact.

  • @cngzsn

    You definitely want to replace the pivot pin.

    • @cngzsn
      @cngzsn 7 років тому

      50sKid The one that you said you didn't get a new one. The head on that pivot pin wears out evenly, so it "looks" ok.

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  7 років тому +1

      Ok--I didn't feel any clearance in the pin after I had reinstalled it though--I think it's ok.
