Yes, in the US one has free access to filthy toilets, without toilet paper, with walls covered in sexual messaging, with minimal privacy, and often without well-kitted handicapped facilities. In Europe one pays €1 for clean, fresh-smelling, places with enclosed, secure stalls, and with alarms/hoists/automated handicapped facilities, and baby-changing tables in both male and female toilets.

@@atorthefightingeagle9813I think it is rare throughout the UK to have to pay to use public toilets. You used to have to pay 20p in railway stations in London and the South East but that seemed to stop about 5-10 years ago. Public toilets on trainshave never charged. None of the local authority toilets in our area in the South East of England charge for admission. I have seen the new automated ones with sliding doors ppsitioned directly on the street which charge.
Charging on continental Europe seems far more prevalent and you might see an attendant collecting the entrance fee, something you would never see in the UK (not least because there is no full-time attendant).

Before reading, I just want to say that I know tyler wont read this, so this comment is pointless, but watching tyler just accept what these people say without any critical thinking is actually insane, also he has a google tab one click away, he could literally just look these things hes confused about up during the video.
-No way you actually think you have to pay to go to a toilet in a shop. You have to pay to use public toilets, ones that are just maintained by the local council. You can go into pretty much any large shop or restaurant to use the toilet for free.
-TAP WATER is free, anywhere that serves food is legally obliged to provide tap water for free. Just say you want tap water and they wont charge you. In the US you get bottled water for free due to the fact US tap water is dirtier than a 15th century peasant.
-In the UK at least, if you ask for water you get still water by default.
-There are dozens of sports across Europe that are large events, much more than the American big 5 leagues. Football (all the way from the premier league to non league/amateur clubs), rugby union, rugby league, cricket, basketball etc.
-That Coke isn't a standard size, standard coke is 330ml cans, however, in the UK due to sugar tax some companies are choosing to provide smaller servings for the same price, rather than having to increase their prices.
-Ketchup is free is literally every place I've ever eaten food in the UK and across Europe.
-Smoking IS NOT fashionable or cool in Europe. People smoke more regularly across Europe than the US, but its more habit than trying to be 'cool'.
-You get money back when you recycle but they increase the price when you buy the object to balance that out. For example a $2 bottle of coke might cost $2.20 but you get 20 cents back when you recycle the bottle.
-Not sure about mainland Europe, but in the UK there are few bins in public due to 9/11 and 7/7 terrorist attacks, bins were seen as an ideal place to put a bomb at a quiet time and leave it until a busy part of the day. Also you can just carry your rubbish until you get home or to a business that will have a bin.
-If your food is out in 5 minutes then its not fresh, European people like to have food that hasn't been in the freezer for 3 months and isn't full of preservatives, unlike americans.
I made this one long comment, rather than splitting it up so it counts as less interaction in the YT stats and doesn't boost this video as much.

However, smaller shops may only have toilets for their staff use. Disabled people may be able to get a "Just can't wait" card to show shop owners who might then let them use staff toilets.

    Europe is not Disneyland Land.
I see Americans here on UA-cam all the time with their mouths hanging open when they watch videos about Europe. It must be a genetic predisposition that all Americans love castles ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
What is better? One euro for a clean public toilet or hundreds for a visit to the doctor. In Resorants the toilet costs nothing anyway.
There are no refills, but there are waitresses who work very professionally and are paid quite well. And yes, they also get four weeks of paid vacation. And I still always tip.
America is not behind the times, but flushing toilets existed in Europe long before America (Knossos, 7th millennium BC). And isn't Europe also the history of America? Or does your history only begin in 1497?
    Greetings from the Black Forest.

  • @mukkaar

All this kinda depends. Here in Nordics, tap water is free. And nobody minds if you use the bathroom in some store/restaurant, that said, sometimes door is opened with code that's on receipt or some other method that only allows customers, it all really depends on business. Overall, if they get frustrated with people using their bathroom, they are just going to get some control mechanism instead of actually stopping people. Shopping centers and big stores though pretty much always have free bathroom. There are some random public bathrooms, and those are paid. Overall, there's always place to go, never actually been to public bathroom, since if there isn't free access, I'm just going to buy something cheap in some business and get access that way.
For me, some of Europe is kinda insane with the bottled water. Not to mention it's just extra waste. So you are not alone ;D

After 1 year you get 14 paid vacation days which are your days of work not days off. From 1 to 4 years you get 14 paid vacation days.
5 to 9 years your Employer pays you 6% vacation pay of your Gross Pay and you get 21 days paid vacation.
10 years to 14 years with your Employer you get 28 paid vacation days and 8% vacation pay of your Gross Pay.

I’m sure I’ve seen Tyler react to the two-button flush system in another video, so it’s starting to get a little dull how little he learns from all the videos he watches - the same goes for the vacation time Europeans get compared to Americans. Baffled he never heard the term still water. Where I am in Canada all public bins are divided between garbage and recycling and the recycling is often further divided into paper and other. Everyone returns their empty beer cans/bottles because they get $ back to recycle them. Each home has a garbage, a recycle and a green (compost) bin to be left near the street on scheduled pickup days. I wonder if not having a recycling program is just where Tyler is. America is definitely behind with a LOT of things but with regards to money, still using one-coloured notes made of paper and no coins of significant value. Maybe if they switched to indestructible polymer and replaced dollar bills with coins they could finance universal healthcare. (I've seen toilets in private homes with 2 buttons.. simple concept - how is it so shocking?)

The 'pay to use' toilets he is talking about are ones either on streets, in large public areas such as rail stations and maybe the odd shopping mall (thought that is rare). Not toilets in cafe's, restuarants or stores. Here in the UK we could be better at public recycling but are good when it comes to home produced rubbish. The minimum by law in the UK for a full time employee is 20 days holiday plus 8 days public holidays. Over the last few years some terrible American practices have been creeping in and it need to be stopped. When Walmart purchased our supermarket chain ASDA they tried to impliment such rules etc. and were met with stiff oppostion and employment laws that they fell foul of legaly. They eventually gave up fighting and sold the supermarket chain on. We do have a horrible thing called 'zero hours' contracts which are normally for the really low paid sectors like home care workers etc. This is very exploitive of the worker and needs to be made unlawful. The ketchup not on the table tends to be with fancier restuarants were you would ask for any condiments of your choice (with that posh jar he was in a very nice place).

You can't just walk into an " establishment" and use their toilet ! Even in McDonalds and Burger King you will need to buy something in order to get a code for the toilet door.
In the UK you are not given water when you sit down in a restaurant. You can ask for water. Tap water is usually free.
In the UK, " tailgating" means to drive too close to the car in front of you !
The guy in this video has been getting ripped off if that's what he's being given as a " standard" coke !! I have never seen a can that small !
Ketchup comes in sachets or normal bottles depending on where you are eating. That's a JAR of ketchup in the video.
Smoking n the UK is only allowed out doors. While not seen as fashionable or healthy, Eastern Europeans who have migrated here smoke like chimneys !!

You have to ASK for the bill/check. It's not left on your table.

2, Many toilets are free except not in the places where you don't contribute to the business (petrol stations, tourist stuff and public (as in out in the wild) restrooms) again, it's a business.
3, Those coke cans are called minis here.... the normal cans are 330ml just like yours.
4, ketchup in a glas cup, sure, In some fancy places they might, just like in a fancy hotel in the USA. but when im asking in my McD for ketchup, its going to be free, and in those plastic bags.
Prolly more but im giving up.
The point im trying to make, just coz he was in 1 place in Europe doesn't mean he knows fck all.

Drew has actually been to every country in the world. He needs to dumb down his videos to make them more accessible to dumb Americans. People like Tyler would never understand a video on Slovenia (or even click on it.)
This video was shit. He also did a terrible video on the differences between Canada and the US. He does vids for dumb Americans but he also does videos for travelers, and the latter are actually pretty good.

Um, yeah, America doesn’t have parks. It certainly wouldn’t do something like create the first national parks system….
