Its merit based. You are divided into blocks according to merit and you have to fill your choices
Baki its difficult to explain in text. Its a small yet complicated procedure.
In short if you are in top 3 in merit you even get desired unit - say 4 SIKH or 9 RAJPUT etc
For others its merit in that particular block.
