I usually stay out of this Brandy versus Monica mass. But for me, it was always Monica growing up. I agree with you about the soulfulness of her voice. She gives me what I need. Sounds like the old singers of old gospel. Like Jackie Verdell. Jackie Verdell didn't have the most prettiest or lovely-est voice. But she got you to feel what you needed to feel as far as what she was singing about, gospel music.
And Monica doesn't have the prettiest voice, either. She actually goes in and out of pitch. But she sings with attitude and soul. That's what matters to somebody like me.

Why do people do this? I hate when people compare & try to create beefs. Mary, Monica, & Brandy r all dynamic & r all very different, legendary artists. Once again, put us against each other & the media stimulates & instigates it. I wish other artists wouldn't engage in these discussions. We don't see them doing this with JoJo & Ariana Grande. I am extremely disappointed! No respect due!
They don't do it with people like Jo Jo and Ariana because nobody is mentioning them in a conversation when it comes to being inspired.

Mya(1997 ish) was in the next group of singers after Aaliyah(94) Brandy(93) and Monica(95). So Mya wasn't part of that original movement.

I'm not ppinning two black women against each other especially since they are two different types of sounds, I will say I have always connected with brandy, I learned how to sing by rehersing both their songs, I have a tone that I can easily song anything monica but brandy took work but now that I am older I am alot better and Ilove how original brandys voice is. Monica just has a strong alto tone voice but Brandy almost sounds like she harmonizing with herself, her sound is just not matchable and I love originality. no one sounds like her

Brandy...Jey Divine is not a fan. But an equal of sorts in the timing of the collab that already exists, yet has yet to take place, the type of collab that can take a (revolution/lack of wont say exactly what it all is the world will know when the time is right) mark these words..and watch God work. None of those are fair. Ciara’s music isn’t the same as that of Brandy. Kelly has less solo hits since she started in the early 2000’s and has crossed into different genres of music. Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah and Usher would have been fair matches to each other since the music similar

I just don't hear what others are hearing. Brandy is a decent singer, I won't deny her that, but Monica's tone is more pure and reminiscent of Whitney's. Monica is a natural runner and not many artists are. I choose Monica over Brandy for those reasons, however Brandy again is a decent singer just not on Monica's level of vocal ability
