A lot of it is china illegally mining and then smuggling the gold out in Ghana. But AJ refuses to talk about it.

I wept when I saw Pra river last year. This was the same river we use to run to for a drink after feeling thirsty and tired from a hard day work in the farm.
Today, it can't even sustain the life of a mosquito larvae. The laws are not working and the politicians are the beneficiaries of these illegal mining. The Chinese left their country to come and spoil our land and our official are there watching them in admiration.😊😊

I witnessed it myself in 2016 driving from Tarkwa to Kumasi. True, it's mainly Chinese operated and they're aggressive and have bought off some of the local officials and police. When we stopped at what we thought was a guesthouse, 5 Chinese men with automatic guns came out to chase us off. The water contamination in the region was disgusting with hundreds of green & yellow water filled craters. Also endless lines of women and children carrying buckets along the main road. I don't believe the region will ever recover from this.

This kind of environmental destruction needs to be dealt with. I think its a global problem and should be solved and dealt with internationally.
It involves global commerce that that buys cheap and don't care if as a result people die. But somehow corporations should be made to care.
Unfortunately i don't know business enough to know what would be efective way.

Irony is that even if we do not drink the water, the animals consumed drink it.

Those involved in illegal mining and polluting the water should be held accountable.

The children also need clean water w/o mercury contamination. They will have a difficult life & poor health or death. Generations will suffer from these poisoned rivers for water supply.
Maybe the river water can be treated w/ bacteria
w/c reduce ionic mercury to elemental mercury. From there, it might be easier to remove it. Not sure how to remove a liquid metal from water but it's heavier so it sinks.

This is only a result of illegal mining. Illegal miners use Mercury for leaching of gold from ore. Whereas, big mining companies use advanced methods that are much cleaner and don't pollute the environment.

The current President Akufo Addo promised Ghanaians in his election campaign and after taking office to put his Presidency on the line to fight against Illegal Mining in Ghana but its himself, members of his Govt, cousins, family and friends that are involved in the Illegal mining in Ghana. He appointed a professor to investigate illegal mining and after submitting the report to Akufo Addo, he sat on the report for 2.5yr until few months ago that the report got leaked with his name, members of his govt and Cousins names mentioned in the report. Now Akufo Addo has connived with the Special Prosecutor of Ghana to Jail the professor (Professor Frimpong Boateng) for exposing this current President Akufo Addo, his relatives and party members of involving in illegal mining

The kids also require access to pure water free of mercury pollution. They'll either have a miserable existence with bad health or pass away. These poisoned rivers' water source will cause generations of people to suffer.
Perhaps bacteria can be used to clean river water to turn ionic mercury into elemental mercury. It could be simpler to take it out from there. Unsure of the best way to remove a liquid metal from water, yet it sinks because it is heavier.

What’s really needed: education AND awareness in the most fundamental forms, to include family planning. Governments/laws? 🤣 gl with that! Inutile and GREEDY “leadership” is what got us all here in the first place.
