Hard disagree. With Penix, my Silver and Black would have been competitive. Without a functional signal caller we were dead before the season started. The only way that miss works out is if we get Sanders. Ward is a bust waiting to happen. Sanders is first, or top five, in every useful statistical passing category, while simultaneously being one of the most pressure QBs in college football. Conversely Ward has a ton of amazing passing yards/tape, but has not been pressured often, and when Ward is under duress, his numbers fall off dramatically. Ward has been getting 4-7sec each snap, which will simply disappear once he reaches the NFL. Penix slung it all over the field, was under pressure with some regularity, and still dominated.

I don't give a shit if you liked Gruden or not or if you thought he was a mediocre coach, the progress was there every year. He had 10 years to build a competitive team. It took him 3. There's no telling where they would be right now 7 years in. Wouldn't be 2-11!
I’d add two more events to the timeline: The Gruden emails leak The playoff game at Cincinnati esp the score on a play when there was a dead ball whistle. Those led to interim coach Rich Bisaccia and then not retaining him, which player leaders opposed, which led to Ziegler/McDaniels, whose firing gave us AP. Same players liked players AP and demanded MD listen to them this time. AP selected Getsy, coddled Adams, and now has trailer by double digits in every game. Cycle only stops w good QB
Yes they made the playoffs barely, but if you’re honest with yourself they weren’t very good. Bottom line we had no chance beyond wild card round of playoffs.
Considering they lost their WR1 midseason in tragic fashion, lost their HC…they were a 4th down conversion in the redzone from beating Cincy in the wildcard round, with an interim coach from Special Teams. That team was resilient.
I’ve been saying it since he got fired, Josh McDaniels cost us 2 years in basically 6 months. We should have never got rid of Jack Del Rio…Now we doubled down with AP and missed out on Jim Hardbaugh, we still need a line and a QB smh. It’s gonna be a tough road ahead
For about 33% of teams in the NFL the real fix is change in ownership, which isn't possible because it's impossible not to make massive profit as an owner. Even if your team never wins, still make huge profits that increase every season
I don't want to make it sound like I'm trying to defend ownership, but if it's the case that change of ownership is impossible, then why always bring it up?
Your statement isn’t actually true though. Just saying. And there are facts that completely prove you wrong. And in fact Mark Davis is actually proof of you being wrong. They don’t all make these “massive profits” you claim. And we know this because if they actually did then teams like the Raiders, Bengals, and Chargers would have no issue signing tons of guaranteed contracts. But yet they pretty much always have issues handing out even just partially guaranteed contracts. I mean the Bengals literally had to sell off there whole stadium rights just to sign a single player in Joe Burrow. And I’m not saying you’re wrong about needing change in ownership, that part is true. But the rest of what you’re saying is garbage. And the reality is that there is actually only one single way for Mark Davis to make a truly massive profit. And that’s by selling the team. These teams do make money, though it’s not an even split like people make it seem, that’s really just for the T.V. Rights.
Atleast mark learns and changes. He's putting people in ownership positions to help him where he knows he's weak. The worst owners don't do that. They think they're the best, the end all be all. What they say goes and nobody can say anything different. Aka Jerry Jones, Kronkie. The packers are fan owned and can't get to a superbowl. The jets owner I'd say is probably the worst. The raiders have just been bad. Mark isn't in charge of quarterback and AL was making the mistakes long before Mark was handed the reigns. Something changed after that last super bowl and we've never been the same. And that was under AL. And AL was the end all be all for everything from then till Mark took over. So I don't think it's all on Mark. Maybe he's been bad at picking people that can develop a quarterback, but he sees that and thus you have 2 football guys in ownership positions now. We've had good gms, we've had decent head coaches amd top tier OCs and it still not work. Mark isn't the type of guy to just control everyone. He's way more open to other voices than his dad. That can be a strength and a weakness. I think Tom's standards will help push us out of those bad habits we keep seeing creep up on the team. Like the penalties, the off field issues, the players that don't care. If there's one good thing AP has done is have guys that want to be there and are true football players, not money suckers
2:04 Don’t forget the Raiders team he got was coming from a playoff berth and was one pass away from winning at Cincinnati in the wildcard game. Add Adams, McDanields lost the locker room after weeks of blowing out a bunch of 1st half leads. It was like if he was only game-planning for 2QTs
Excellent show guys. Hope they follow the fix exactly as you talked about. I have a feeling they will do the opposite and we will be stuck in this rebuild for years to come.
TOTALLY skipping the part about how we lost a record number of games, after having double digit leads. If that ain't happen in 2022, we would've been not only back in the playoffs, but in the running for home field throughout. 😮 So no, we WEREN'T some type of false playoff team. 💯
Terrible drafting has decimated the depth of this team, emphasis on the Gruden regime and the QB miss of McDaniels... Raiders (from this point on) cannot afford to miss on early round picks and developmental players in the mid-later rounds, starting with the (future) QB selection next year🤞🏴☠️
That’s the issue right there we reached toooo many years drafting busts in the first. Bunch of players we missed on to get maybes. I feel this way about sanders and Ward. Best players to get are Travis Hunter and Mason Graham

Next, since you think that Shedeur has a sense of entitlement vs his talent, I now hope he goes to New York or another team who respects his talent. Cam Ward is another outstanding qb. Regardless of cap space, roster, coaches.. etc … no of this matters till Mark gets involved.
The death of the Raiders was the McDaniel's hire for sure. Single-handedly set us back 3-5 years with playcalling, decision making, and draft woes (not subject to his tenure). Took a team that had a promising yet turbulent 2021 and stripped it down because he thought he was some czar who was too good to realize what he inherited and could've built off of
@@reesbritton6623 so playing hard is your criteria of a good coach? Lol, what about his terrible game management and in game decisions on critical downs? Every single week he's making decisions that you cannot defend
The Raiders blew it long ago when they passed on Jalen Hurts while Carr constantlyhad them middling well enough to be just high enough to miss out. Since then, there has been no one on the board... ...until now. By cutting Carr, the Raiders are finally in position to cash in. The Falcons screwed them out of Penix, but they got perhaps the next Gen tight end of the NFL. Add Shedeur Sanders and let's get back to Raiders football.
Fire the coach, draft the consensus #1 QB in the draft. Byron Gabriel from #1 Oregon would be good. No more reaching for the 5th, 8th, or 10th rated QB's. Then we need people everywhere else.
Cause of Death: inept coaching, especially on the offensive side, injuries. Raiders are 32nd in rushing. So worst rushing attack + Minshew at QB equates to bad news. When you have an offense that can't score, that puts more pressure on the defense. With the same offense, Bo Hardegee put up 63 points vs. the chargers. Bo, a QB Coach with no coordinating experience, faired better than Getsy.
Col. Sanders=Jamarcus Russell. The last time the Raiders were desperate for a QB and they had a high 1st round pick in a poor QB draft they walked away with the worst bust in the history of the draft. Drew Allar is the only QB in this draft to has the raw talent to develop into a solid QB. The real problem with the Raiders is CULTURE. Starts with the mixing bowl and gets worse with Mr. tuck. Derek Carr was the QB the Raiders took so long to find after Gannon and they exhausted every option. Cam Ward=Charlie Batch. Carson Beck=Marc Wilson. Free agency has Darnold, who would not look the same on the Raiders as he does on the Vikings. Neither would Daniel Jones. There are other mediocre options too. There are no Peyton Mannings in the draft or free agency. Derek Carr is a June 1st cut candidate and Jon Gruden is available. Raiders will screw this up though. In Raider history their most successful winning qb was selected in the 2nd round. Their most successful statistical QB the same. Their other 2 successful QB's came from other teams, one was drafted #1 overall.
Dude, Peyton Manning wasn't even that good in his first couple of seasons when he was drafted by the Colts....Shedeur is the best QB coming out of this draft class
@@222savvy Peyton Manning was the highest touted QB draft prospect to come out in the past 25 years. Col. Sanders is hot garbage. This past season most of his competition was playing high school talent. He's soft like his father, and about as cerebral.
I don’t feel like the raiders are to far away. I would go best player available like last year. If that’s a cb, take it. Gotta build a team and hope on a qb. Look at the stealers. Just be competitive
Josh McDaniels has setback 2 franchises now. The Broncos when he came in and traded a young Jay Cutler and did almost nothing with the draft capital acquired in that trade. Now he did the same to the Raiders. Don’t let that man be anything other than a OC
I’m a Chargers fan, and I just love seeing the Raiders continue to lose year after year. They are one of the most dysfunctional organizations in football, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. I had to laugh when they hired Tom Telesco to be their new GM. He was the GM for the Chargers for 8 years, and he did an awful job in the late rounds of the draft. Anyone they drafted past the 2nd round was usually a player that wasn’t able to contribute to the team. I don’t give him any credit for finding very good players in the first couple of rounds because those players were obviously good, and fell into his lap. On top of that, quite a few players that played for the Chargers and later cut, wound up being signed by the Raiders. Why they thought those players would play better for the Raiders than they did for the Chargers, I haven’t got a clue. Bottom line- There is no “fixing” the Raiders unless the team is sold to a better owner who is willing to hire a new GM and a head coach that have turned other teams into winners, it’s always going to be the same old thing every year. The Chargers are a great example of what happens when they hire the right GM and head coach.. but the Raiders will continue to do Raiders things, and because of that, the Chargers will have 2 games they can count on as automatic wins, and they know that the Raiders will never be able to compete for a division title, or even the playoffs, and that makes me very happy!
The Raiders' roster is a long way from being bad - you are undervaluing the talent on the team. Over the last 5 years we have consistently been the 2nd best team in the AFC West, despite all the turmoil, and saying we "overachieved" is just gaslighting a "Raiders are bad" narrative that has been proved, by results, to be false. The cause of death for this season is simple and three-fold - Luke Getsy, Gardner Minshew and injuries. Aiden O'Connell came in as an unprepared 4th round rookie and went 5-4 last season with Bo Hardegree calling plays from McDaniels' playbook. Nothing that happened in the off-season should have resulted in us getting worse... but Getsy was a total disaster, Minshew was (insanely) named the starter and singlehandedly lost games with turnovers, and injuries ravaged what should have been the strength of the team (the DL) - Koonce didn't play a snap and Wilkins was gone after just a few games. With just a mid-tier OC, AOC starting from game 1, and better luck with injuries, Adams probably wouldn't have been traded and the Raiders would likely be fighting the Broncos and Chargers for an AFC wildcard spot.
Honestly, the biggest difference with the raiders compared to a 8-11 win team in the nfl is turnovers. I think they are still +18. That centers around poor qb play and a defense that can't force any turnovers. The defense looks good at times, but can't stop anyone at other times. Get a qb that doesn't turn the ball over 2-3 times a game. And a solid rb that can get you 4-5 yrds a carry without a fumble a game. Hopefully, kolten can get back to form with a healthy offseason, and they can address LG and RG in FA or draft. Also, they need a solid LB to tie the defense together. I like Spillane, but I think he would be better as a side kick to a star LB than being the guy himself. Another complimentary wr, doesn't have to be a super star, just a sure handed guy that can get open for 4-6 plays in the middle of the field. Wouldn't mind seeing the Raiders draft ward or sanders, than using some of those picks to trade back up and grab A Jeanty. Adress the rest of the needs with the draft picks that are left and FAs. They would be must see TV with a big move like this.
The Raiders are in disarray. It seems that in twenty years, they couldn't build a contender, yet they've allowed the Chiefs to win nine consecutive division titles. To me, it appears that those in charge care more about their financial gains than about building a winning franchise.
It's not the personnel, but the place Las Vegas. Oakland was a tough blue-collar town that cherished their team. Las vegas is ritzy, corporate, and evil with gambling as a factor. Heck, there's more fans from visiting teams sometimes.
QB is a must in round 1 for the raiders. there's no other way around it. The raiders lost all close games because the QB minchew kept fumbling his own passes.
Same problem as the giants - keep changing the gm who has no patience with the players he inherited. No one develops players. Even decent QBs like O’Connell aren’t given a real chance with a decent line and training camp. You have to pick a good gm and staff and give them four years.
Exactly!!! All these folks saying we gotta draft a qb in the 1st rd are ignorant. Just because you draft a qb in the first rd doesn’t mean he’s gonna be the man. I would do exactly how Chicago did and trade down. Take a qb in the later rds. Then we will have draft capital to make big moves if needed to get Manning
It’s baffling how much you guys seem to not know about the team that you’re talking about it’s a known fact that Dave Ziegler had a trade up with the Texans for CJ Stroud in place and Josh McDaniels said no and basically vetoed Ziegler and leading up to this draft, it’s well known if you pay any attention to the Raiders that they tried to trade up to get Jaden Daniels, and even offered three first round picks to Washington, but were turned down and they were hoping Michael Penix would fall to them, but they weren’t willing to trade up for him
Besides the cap space and the good draft picks, the Raiders have a lot of talent already. Getsy turned out to be a flop at OC. Injuries to starters compounded the mistake to start Minshew. They replace Minshew with AOC and he instantly gets hurt. If they address the QB situation, find a legit #1 WR, add a RB and upgrade at guard, then they are pretty much set.
First of all, there is no quick fix to repairing this team. True, we must draft well in this draft with four top 100 pics we have no choice. Spend wisely in free agency and upgrade QB, OL, WR, and RB - also it wouldn’t hurt to upgrade LB and CB (at least in the depth) You must come out of this off-season with upgrades at both guards, and QB at the minimum .
THE COACHING , THE DEFENSE. AND NOW OFFENSE , RUNNING GAME , FRIST PICK THE RIGHT H\C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely Mcdaniels was awful, but let’s not forget that the only reason there was a vacancy was that the nfl forced mark Davis to fire gruden. Mark davis didn’t want to fire him. Also it wasn’t a disaster with gruden and Carr- they made the playoffs
I don't believe this is APs fault, but wouldn't lose sleep over replacing him. Unless they can get a great replacement though, what's the point? Is vrabel really that guy? I don't know. AP has got the players he has to play well for him, but he never had a qb, and they let his top 5 rb walk out the door over chump change. Also lost a 9 sack DE a couple days before wk 1 and one of the top DTs in the league in wk 3? His top wr, was literally convinced by the media that he should be playing somewhere else and refused to play a couple weeks into the season. Even though he was dropping numerous passes that hit him right in the hands at crucial moments. He didn't choose Getsy who ran the same 5 run plays up the middle over and over again either.
Neither JMD or Davante were brought in for Derek Carr. They were brought in for Tom Brady. Brady retired and there was no plan B. If there had been, they would've traded up for CJ Stroud (as Ziegler wanted to) and McDaniels would probably still have his job.
I think the NFL stock exchange said it best and yeah they did refer to mc Daniels tenure as a huge setback and sam is right so is Steve with the falcons taking Penix because the raiders were impressed with his pro day and the missed draft picks especially 2020 and the Alex leatherwood pick definitely another setback before mcdummy but at least in 2019 they got Josh Jacobs and Maxx Crosby.
13:15 I’m glad someone isn’t chanting for AP to get another year he doesn’t deserve it but by no mean should Mike vrabel be the head coach of the raiders I don’t trust him to develop a Qb

Cause of death... someone released certain emails!! I'm talking about Roger Goodell.
If there's a Raider fan out there that can't see Gruden getting assassinated by the NFL wasn't the death of this team (this time), you're an absolute f*cking fool.
I don't give a shit if you liked Gruden or not or if you thought he was a mediocre coach, the progress was there every year.
He had 10 years to build a competitive team. It took him 3. There's no telling where they would be right now 7 years in. Wouldn't be 2-11!
gruden was NOT keeping us alive... stop it
Gruden is Racist and Trash we can get a way better Coach
I’d add two more events to the timeline:
The Gruden emails leak
The playoff game at Cincinnati esp the score on a play when there was a dead ball whistle.
If Bissacia is kept this whole thing is avoided
You are what your record is. You can’t say Raiders really weren’t a playoff team when they made the playoffs!
I love when people say stupid shit like that.
Cause of death: Josh McDaniels
So not the fact that Antonio Pierce is completely unqualified to be a head coach?
@@nopeteys2424so you’re saying it’s a bad idea to hire a coach strictly based on vibes? 😂😂😂
for the past several decades?
Mark Davis… Gruden was a disaster of a hire even before McDaniels.
Totally agree , the guy destroyed our team smh
Rights.
Nah it’s just QB. Makes all the difference.
@@SonofStormblessedthe bengals did not sell their stadium. They sold the naming rights just like most sports teams in the world do.
Cause of death this season #1 QB, #2 Defense injurys, #3 and #4 poor O-Line and Poor RB's. Never should of let Josh Jacobs walk

Just for the record: Coach Prime is not leaving Colorado. Next, since you think that Shedeur has a sense of entitlement vs his talent, I now hope he goes to New York or another team who respects his talent. Cam Ward is another outstanding qb. It’s crazy how many people are “experts” and the content is so bad. The issue is since day 1 Mark Davis has looked for someone to hand off the team too. First it was Reggie McKenzie, then it was Jon Gruden, then McDaniels/Ziegler and now it was the players/fans…. Regardless of cap space, roster, coaches.. etc … no of this matters till Mark gets involved.
I don’t think D end is a that big of a need. They have Malcolm Koonce, Tyree Wilson, and chaisson has looked good this year
Don't draft Sanders or ward and fire AP tankers are a disgrace.
The death of the Raiders was the McDaniel's hire for sure. Single-handedly set us back 3-5 years with playcalling, decision making, and draft woes (not subject to his tenure). Took a team that had a promising yet turbulent 2021 and stripped it down because he thought he was some czar who was too good to realize what he inherited and could've built off of
The sad thing is as bad as Josh McDaniels was, Strictly from a coaching perspective AP is even worse, so that only compounded the problem

Firing Gruden screwed them
The Raiders blew it long ago when they passed on Jalen Hurts while Carr constantlyhad them middling well enough to be just high enough to miss out.
They had a chance to beat the Bengals in the playoffs. I wouldn't say they overachieved, they just didn't make the right moves.
Antonio pierce is also a reason they suck this year. A competent coach would have won more games
With O’Connell and Minshew? We and he were doomed from the start. Can’t properly evaluate him without a viable quarterback.
Llmr. You can 😊😊😊😊😊
Dude, Peyton Manning wasn't even that good in his first couple of seasons when he was drafted by the Colts....Shedeur is the best QB coming out of this draft class
Cause of death: Mark Davis
Watching them against the falcons tonight has been a living nightmare and I'm a Pats fan 😅
The Raiders are in disarray. It seems that in twenty years, they couldn't build a contender, yet they've allowed the Chiefs to win nine consecutive division titles. To me, it appears that those in charge care more about their financial gains than about building a winning franchise.

And how was Mark going to keep The Raiders in Oakland when he didn't have the money or the land to fully fund one himself?
We should give AOC credit for showing that Jimmy G and Minshew weren't solutions for the team; he wasn't a first round talent, no disrespect
QB is a must in round 1 for the raiders. there's no other way around it. The raiders lost all close games because the QB minchew kept fumbling his own passes.
Great Raiders content fellas Good stuff
Bad ownership and bad hiring, Brady is their only chance for changing at the top
Same problem as the giants - keep changing the gm who has no patience with the players he inherited. No one develops players. Even decent QBs like O’Connell aren’t given a real chance with a decent line and training camp. You have to pick a good gm and staff and give them four years.
Nfl scouts say that this is a bad qb class and most prospects are olinemen so draft a mid ass qb isn't going to help.

Letting Gruden go was the death of the Raiders.... this time.
After 1984 it hasn’t got fixed
Spend wisely in free agency and upgrade QB, OL, WR, and RB - also it wouldn’t hurt to upgrade LB and CB (at least in the depth)
You must come out of this off-season with upgrades at both guards, and QB at the minimum .

Definitely Mcdaniels was awful, but let’s not forget that the only reason there was a vacancy was that the nfl forced mark Davis to fire gruden. Mark davis didn’t want to fire him. Also it wasn’t a disaster with gruden and Carr- they made the playoffs
To Ziegler’s defense he wanted to Draft CJ Stroud Mc Daniels wanted Jimmy G and we saw the results
What makes vrabel better?
The Shadeur hate is crazy
As a Raiders fan I am curious how Tom Brady is gonna run the organization.
Neither JMD or Davante were brought in for Derek Carr. They were brought in for Tom Brady. Brady retired and there was no plan B. If there had been, they would've traded up for CJ Stroud (as Ziegler wanted to) and McDaniels would probably still have his job.
I personally think Dillon Gabriel is a better QB than ppl are giving credit
I think the NFL stock exchange said it best and yeah they did refer to mc Daniels tenure as a huge setback and sam is right so is Steve with the falcons taking Penix because the raiders were impressed with his pro day and the missed draft picks especially 2020 and the Alex leatherwood pick definitely another setback before mcdummy but at least in 2019 they got Josh Jacobs and Maxx Crosby.
