Welcome back to another thrilling episode of ChriswithaC RC! In today's adventure, we decided to take the EPIC Arrma Kraton 4s v2.5 to an exciting new bash spot nestled in the breathtaking Welsh countryside. Little did we know that this outing would be far from smooth sailing!
From the get-go, it became apparent that things were not going according to plan. Breakages became an unfortunate consequence of some intense driving maneuvers. After the pitstop, we were back in action, ready to conquer the terrain once again. However, just when we thought we were in the clear, our ESC decided to throw a wrench in our plans. It was a true test of patience and problem-solving skills.

After some investigation, it seems that this is a known issue with the Spektrum ESC, as I've been informed. Determined to find a solution, I reached out to Modelsport here in the UK, and they have been incredibly helpful. I've been in contact with them, and they will be reaching out to me with further information. Fingers crossed, we can work something out, whether it's updating the ESC firmware or getting it replaced.

Thanks for the videos ! I wouldn't have mess with differential fluids without seeing there low. I put 15k in front back and 200k center. Did a short test drive and didn't balloon and make that cow screaming noise lol. I running gen ace 6800 pro bashing batteries. Never had issue with shutting down early. Just had to cut out battery tray for length and heavy duty battery straps cause stock ones couldn't handle weight of batteries . Run time 40 min without any problems.
Nice work! Nice to see your tuning options working out for you , Im going to play about with the truck alot more to see how it feels once the ESC has come back from warranty .
As for larger batteries im running some ONYX 8000 mah batteries as well with no issues on the size of the battery tray .

Just wondering if you got a final root cause to the LVC or thermal shut down problem? My brand new K4S V2.5 is having a similar problem. I don’t know if it’s shutting down early (cus I don’t have enough experience to know if the battery is low or not- didn’t check voltage after running), but my issue is the truck won’t power on-and getting red flashing light instead. No power on means no bashing OR blasting! I’m using brand new Gens Ace Advanced 100C 5300mAh LiHv pack. Only have three runs on the truck. No temp issues, but ESC seems to be “stuck” in LVC mode.

Hey man , Yes i did find out what was wrong , it turns out that the LVC was set way to high out of the factory and also ive done a firmware update on the truck this helped immensely , Ive done a video to help you understand here - ua-cam.com/video/m3344-0FqlE/v-deo.html

@@ChriswithaCrc Chris. Thanks much for the info and video. I did contact Horizon Hobby about the problem and they are sending me a new ESC. They don’t want the old one back-which tells me something-especially after reading so much about the Big Rock 6s rollout. 😏. Stay cool man!🤟🏼🤛🏼
So Chris, I want to thank you for this video and your great positivity. I also found out more about the LVC issue I have. It seems that the “new” black ESC reads my 15.2 high voltage pack as an over discharged 6S battery because it doesn’t understand a high voltage 4S battery. Therefore it kicks in LVC (because 15.2v is too low for a 6S pack)when I try to power it on (usually). Yes, it’s not even consistent.
So I bought the V2 program box, too, but I can’t upgrade the firmware of the box OR the ESC, because their software program isn’t compatible with Apple computers-which is all I have. The only use I have for the box is to change ESC settings. No firmware upgrades. 😖. Supposedly, “they’re working on it”. I’m not holding my breath. Because I have dementia, I need to use smart batteries that don’t require setting adjustments for charging and they also sell discharge to storage level if not used right away, but Gens Ace only offers these in high voltage configuration. 🤕🤕🤕. Headaches!🤪

Well the good news is ive spoken to Modelsport and there kindly going to test it and then fingers crossed are going to replace it .
Ooh yeah interesting Chris as discussed before I'm having the same issue with the Mojave where I didn't have the problem with the 4s Outcast. I see people saying it's the batteries but like I say mine are fine in the Outcast. The proof would be to swap over the ESC's of these two cars and to see if the problem follows the ESC. If so it's a warranty job I would say. I'll let you know if I discover anything about this. Cheers for reporting the issue. Best wishes mate 😁👍👍
Hey pete , Yes im the same never had this issue with my outcast at all .
Was interesting to hear that you have experienced the same issue , and investigating further , I've spoken to a few others that have said the same , So im wondering if its a common problem .
As you say would be good to find out if a different esc in the truck would eliminate the issue .
I've spoken to Modelsport today and there going to test the ESC and either update the firmware or replace .
If as you say you find some more information on the issue please do let me know buddy ASAP .

i broke my rear hub on my v2 kraton last year i ended up throwing vitavon hubs all the way around it and they been EPIC i highly recommend them....

My kraton 4s v2.5 was doing that to me as well it was blinking red like low voltage and slowing down. With 6200 mah zeee packs. Never happened on my CNHL 6800 mah. I'm running 8000 MAH zeee 4s packs and hasn't had that issue yet after 4 runs. But my truck was doing the same thing. Arrma said it was because I was drawing power close to the LVC and when it would go below during the energy pull it would throw alarm.

But ive heard from numerous people that they have the same issue with there trucks now . Also thing to mention is that this happens on various packs i have .
I believe that its a ESC issue , Maybe firmware or something like that .
I've spoken to Modelsport here and they have offered to inspect the ESC and then if they cant update it then get it replaced .
Fingers crossed it wont take long and ill be able to report back

It's not the esc , it's the zee batteries 100% , I have 4 , all cut out in cold weather. Rc guy garage has same issue with zee batteries in cold weather. Hope this helps. Thanks for the vids
Thanks for the info hmmmmm maybe a rouge pack , I genuinely think though its the ESC thats playing up there are others saying exactly the same thing though .

Great video again 👌🏻 unfortunately I’ve not had a good experience with the zee batteries, I know some people swear by them. I’ve moved over to cnhl and had no issues
Great point! Yeah well i am hoping that once the ESC has come back from the modelshop and updated this will stop happening , as really dont want to have to replace my batteries as i have a few Zees packs here .
Having said that mind with my Hobbywing ESC's i have no issues with them at all .

Hell of a crash fair play 😅 not good to see these esc problems. As i said earlier had a similar problem myself with the xr8 pro but didnt really think much of it until you said earlier. Hopefully we can get it sorted
Hey buddy , Yeah fingers crossed its going to get sorted now , Modelsport are going to look in to it for me ! there customer service is bang on to be fair , called me 3 times today trying to find a resolution .
They have offered to send it back and then if there is not anything they can do replace the rouge ESC .

I've never liked zee batteries, I stick with hrb, nhx,ovonic said chhl. Any they r not expected batteries.
Hey buddy , Ill be honest i really dont think its a rouge pack thats the issue , i have a feeling its the ESC .
That was a hard hit cant believe there was not more damage. Check to see if you have the latest update on the esc also these new blacked out esc's seem to cut power early you change the low voltage cut off in the settings I think if the pack drops just slightly the esc will keep it in low power. Mine works fine but they warrantied the esc my power button fell out after 1 run lol I actually have the black and orange esc they told me to update it because it didnt have the same settings I did and its been working fine. My big rock and kraton the new 6s shut down early with plenty still in the pack I set the low voltage and its been fine
Hey buddy , As you say it was a very hard hit ! , I will say thats part of the reason i love these 4s trucks as much as i do , as they tend to flex on impacts and not bend or worst case snap like some other 6s trucks . very touch little buggers .
As the the ESC right it seems its the one at fault here , Spoken to Modelsport and they have asked for me to send them the ESC and they will test it and then either update the firmware or replace the ESC .
Fingers crossed this wont take to long as im dying to get out again with the Kraton .

@ChriswithaCrc I see all the zee comments lol. I run them too no problem my Big Rock and Kraton both kicked off early I still had at least 40 percent I dropped the lvc and its been fine. I even ran the Spektrum pa ks still shut off. On the dx5 or other remotes you can watch the current drop on hard throttle I think the esc is too quick to react mine actually just shut off and beeped I never had it on my 4s I never ran the pack down just did the review video so just a little fun then I lost the button like I said the replacement I had to update so far so good my friend I just got a Kagama just waiting on the weather to cooperate

whatever was the next level down shown on the programmer I cant remember off hand what the exact value is but it was one down. I just bought a portable ramp so I can do consistent jumps on review videos I cant wait to take it out I got side tracked day 1 all the diffs leaked out the oil spent the day refilling them I was not happy then Luke said he would have sent a new car wow amazing warranty right there I already fixed it lol I paid for this it was not sent to me I am in the creator program now so maybe one day I will get an early look at something @@ChriswithaCrc
I put max10g2 combo with 2400 kv on my outcast 4s v2 with center diff and is very good combo for this car
I was thinking the same to be honest with you buddy ,
Ill see what happens with this ESC now once ive returned it and go from there .

I haven’t had any issues with my Mojave 4s and I hope I don’t. Sorry it’s messing up on you buddy! Man that crash was brutal and looked like it was a lot worse

Yeah its a shame that the ESC is playing up isnt it . Good news is Modelsport are going to look at it for me and hopefully replace .
