  • Reupload: A followup to BEFORE M. BISON, comparing the respective anime incarnations of both characters side by side.
Once again, this is NOT to dispute Washizaki's influence on M. Bison; no arguments there. This is simply to further the argument that Yasunori Kato most likely had some influence on M. Bison's design at some point in time, especially his "mystical presence".

Mbison's appearance and psychic powers was inspired by the villain from 'Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis' and his nationality was made a mystery or ambigous

Kato is far more powerful, simply because the more violence and anger thrown at him, the more he could turn it against his foes. The more Bison got violent, the more Kato would laugh. Only love won in the end

Bison is a Westerner though yeah? In another video you said Bison is Kato's grandson, I'm wondering when Kato impregnated a Western lady lol.

kato would likely win as he can control hatred that m. bison's powered by though is interesting the anime version is the most he's been tied to him.(especially his hand movements before using psycho power/the manga adaptation of the animated movie having a spirit explode from bison after he dies getting impaled on his vtol & 2v having bison get his power from a eagle idol within his base implied to be a temple it was a god to like kato using the sealed away power of the occult to wreck japan.)

For what? For making him the final boss in Street Fighter II, and therefore more powerful than all the other characters they created? Seems more like a nice tribute to me.

No it's inspiration. M. Bison can do martial arts and wears a unique outfit; none of these elements were part of Kato's character. M. Bison is original enough to stand on his own.
But I sympathize. The only thing Capcom should be ashamed about (if anything) is not giving even a little bit of credit to the actor who inspired M. Bison's character portrait (Kyusaku Shimada, the actor shown at the very end of the video). Imagine...if that actor got royalties for every copy of STREET FIGHTER sold, he would be rolling in dough and internationally recognized, LOL*
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ky%C5%ABsaku_Shimada
I'm reminded a lot of the situation when scifi author Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron for not crediting his ideas when he made THE TERMINATOR. Eventually the company which made TERMINATOR compromised by adding Ellison's name to the end credits of the movie. I get the impressions that these kind of situations (where an artist is overlooked for his contributions) happen a lot more often in Japan...they're just swept under the rug and not as publicly discussed or talked about as much as over here. Japanese corporations just seem more tight-lipped on these matters.
*I also think Capcom managed to circumvent this situation by publicly stating that the first inspiration for M. Bison was a character named Washizaki from a manga (RIKI-OH); which was released around the exact same time Kato first appeared in theaters. I don't disagree, but it's a little harder to swallow because 1) the character in the manga ALSO looks amazingly like Kato and 2) the character can't do MAGIC...which are trademark characteristics of Kato and M. Bison. It doesn't follow. If Washizaki was the direct inspiration for M. Bison, then why does M. Bison resemble Kato more in the end? I have a suspicion they're silent on the Kato inspiration because they don't want to invite any trouble.
It is what it is. Personally I'm just glad that M. Bison is as popular as he is. Kato's spirit survives through him.
